I've been resisting this game for so long - this is going to tip me over the edge!

Edit: is this free for subscribers or paid for everyone?

Is $40 a lot for an expansion for a F2P MMO?

Honestly curious.

Edit: mistaken about F2P

Edit 2: Just ignore this whole fucking post.

Personally very excited to find out it's a full fledged expansion. The existing DLC zones (especially Orsinium!) are really great, but having a full on expansion with a new (much needed) team based PVP mode and the entirety of Vvardenfell's landmass included is way more substantial.
I thought you could already go to Morrowind?

There are mainland Morrowind zones already in the game, but not the island of Vvardenfell, which is where the game Morrowind takes place.

Wow this is awesome news! I've been playing ESO on and off since launch and its a great game. I'm looking forward to the reveal to see how it all looks, but I am fairly certain I will be in for this.

I guess I should get back into ESO. I played it heavily in 2015 and beat the main campaign but I haven't played it since

Also you can eat a copy for like $5 at a redbox or from gamefly

I played ESO for a hot minute at launch and never came back. This might convince me to jump back in, but I still don't see the gameplay changing much.

Is $40 a lot for an expansion for a F2P MMO?

Honestly curious.

Edit: mistaken about F2P

There have been 3 PvE zones released as standalone DLC to date and I believe the crown (in game currency) exchange has them priced at about $15 each, or thereabouts, and as someone who has played them they are definitely worth the money for the amount there is to do in them. This seems like it's going to be way way more substantial, given the sizen of the Vvardenfell landmass that was datamined on reddit a few weeks ago:

edit: Also this game has had substantial free updates over just the last few months, with the One Tamriel update in October, and the upcoming Homestead expansion which adds a totally new player housing system which is coming next week or thereabouts. Just the base game (which you now know is buy to play) is a really insane value for the $15-20 sale price it hits.

Eso is free to play. You can pay a subscription fee to have free access to all add on content and monthly stipend bonuses and 10% xp boost.

Edit: yes you do have to buy the game to play.

"The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind will be the largest ESO content update Bethesda has released yet, and adds the same amount of area as included in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind's base game.

The new expansion to ESO takes place 700 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, so you'll get to see Vvardenfell in its heyday. Red Mountain hasn't erupted and thrown the province into turmoil, and Vivec City is still in its infancy. All the sights are waiting to be seen, from the mushroom towers of the Telvanni wizards to the docks of Seyda Neen."

Trailer drops in one hour.

Oops, my mistake.

Then I guess my question is even more pertinent. If you're paying a monthly fee already, $40 seems steep?

ESO is buy2play. You pay the initial fee and there's a cash shop you can buy things from. There's an optional subscription that gives you access to some perks.

That's said, so long as the expansion has a ton of content then $40 isn't steep at all. Consider it an entire game on top of the existing one (hopefully).

I might jump back in with this expansion.

Played at launch and it was a very flawed gem. Played after it went B2P and enjoyed it a bit more.

Now with all these changes, and fucking MORROWIND, I might be back, baby.

New class sounds badass. War bear is always instant purchase for me :)

YES! I can't wait to try one. Personally I was hoping for a conjurer along the lines of what we've seen in the single player games (that summons atronachs instead of the Sorcerer's daedra summons), but warden sounds like a rad addition too. Something that has been seen in the single player games (the spriggan style enemies) but has never been playable. Sounds awesome!
new class?

Read the link:

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind also brings the first new class since the premiere of ESO. The Warden is a druid-like warrior who has the ability to use nature-based magic to fight their foes. Additionally, the Warden gets a powerful companion in the form of the War Bear, a bear that rips through the Warden's enemies with massive claws.

For info, they say the content is about the same as base Morrowind. Morrowind main quest + some extras (but skipping most) took about ~120 hours, so this is a major expansion.

...but shit a dwarven spider pet

Isn't there already a free Dwarven spider pet you can get in the game now for finishing the Razak’s Wheel public dungeon in Bangkorai though? I could swear I got one for finishing the main quest in there.

how good is controller support for pc?

I got the game in a sale but was waiting for controller support and never got around to playing it

Best MMO just got better

Honestly, MMO of the year for 2 straight years, starting with the console launch in 2015, 2016's One Tamriel update, and now this. This went from being a game I had to defend as a diehard Elder Scrolls fan to one that I can recommend without reservation.
