Yakuza Community Thread - FEEL THE HEAT!

Now I'm wishing that I had not finished Ishin already so I could join Menitta and Irish in exploring every nook and cranny of that game until Y0 drops in a month and a half time.

We really should do a "Let's play Yakuza x" thread at some point. I think you guys did that with Y5 but I missed it as I was busy with other stuff :(

Fair enough. I still think I'm going to give the demo a shot, but I'm not going to impulse buy the full thing day 1.

Then I might add, as for the combat, your movement speed will improve when you unlock some skills in the full game.

Believe me, I would love to. But my Japanese is pretty much non-existent and a huge part of why I love the series comes from the characters and their stories.

KHH's guide on Ishin was truly amazing. If Y6 wasn't already announced for western release I most likely would've used their guides again to play the Japanese version. Though, thankfully that won't be necessary :)

I feel ya man. I was so close to buying Kiwami in Japanese, but I waited for PSX. If nothing had been announced, I'd at least try to learn basic Japanese for menus.

Fortunately the exact opposite of nothing happened. They're finally caught up to the latest Yakuza game being announced for the west.

Yeah, PSX announcements were so unbelievable. Especially the fact that they went all in on the series even before Y0 has come out! Mad respect for Sega/Atlus/Sony.

Man, may we never run out of Yakuza localization announcements in PSXs :)

Sounds like a plan! My copy should be sent out later today, I went with the Sega DX edition as usual. I don't usually do Special Editions but I break that rule for any Yakuza release. Fingers crossed the game reaches me within the next 10 days and I'll make a start from there. I wonder how long the game is, its hard to work out just how much content the game has - side missions are down to 52 but I do like that they are fully voiced now, plus its hard to work out if going for 100% on all the mini games will take more/less time... I'm sure either way it'll take me a good few months and 100+ hours to finish it off!

Ok, so I've never played Yakuza before but I REALLY want to start. Should I buy Yakuza 0 when it comes out, or hold off until Yakuza Kiwami releases? Will the story of 0 really be that hard for me to grasp?

Yes you can start with Y0. Here is something that can answer many more of your questions. If you had any other questions in regards to Yakuza series, don't hesitate to ask here (or preferably) in the thread below
so we can keep it up on the front page :)

How hard is it to buy digitally? Never got around to pre-ordering and I really want to look at the VF5FS port.

Easy if you just buy a prepaid PSN card from Playasia or a similar site. The only hurdle would then be navigating the Japanese store to find the game. Fairly certain you can't use Paypal/Credit Card unless the registered address is in the same country as the PSN store your trying to buy the game on (not 100% sure on this though).

Yeah you can buy a psn card off of Play-Asia(who will send you the code instantly) and you just purchase what games you want on the store

I like how all my progress continued from the demo, so I'm powered up a good bit and have a great amount of money and also, got some trophies popping up as soon it loaded.

Also Ju-nen hayain da yo!

I'm probably not going to do the transfer of progress. I powered Kiryu up a bit but would rather start out fresh, keep the game as difficult as it can be in the beginning rather than end up being overpowered early on. That and I do rather like how aggressive enemies were in the beginning on hard mode (so I'll certainly be starting on that difficulty when my game arrives).

I'm not sure when I transitioned to casually saying "kyodai" instead of "fam" in conversations but here we are, and Yakuza is definitely to blame. :D

And ICYMI, I confirmed that Y0 is going to have the PS4 Share restrictions lifted for everything but the final scene in the game.

Whoa! That's huge! I wanted to take so many pictures in the Japanese demo but the restriction was a bitch. Thank you so much for this kyodai :)

Daymn, my youtube feed is filled with the videos like "RGG6 Ending", "RGG6 Final Boss Battle".

Indeed, let us rejoice together: https://youtu.be/bRsk5xv9O8s

The one in 3:01 made me laugh really loud.

I knew what made you laugh before I clicked the link. I did that heat in the demo lol Kiryu murmured 「すっごい!! (amazing)」 when the girl beat the dude down with no troubole.

There an import thread I missed for Y6?

I'm on chapter 8 now, I can't put the game down and am enjoying the experience but it feels like they took so much out! No gambling, no weapons, no crafting, no coliseum, some of the other main-stay minigames are gone like bowling. No fighting styles and I have not seen anything like hidden techniques to learn, you can unlock a good chunk of the fighting abilities early and the rest are just making things hit harder/you stronger. Side quest amount is lowish (for Yakuza) and many have been relatively short.

The upgrade to the presentation, from visuals to animation to just ease of exploring the world, are tremendous. But it really feels like a "foundation" game in some respects, laying the ground work for future installments that use the engine.

On a side note, this looks like it will be by far the easiest game to platinum.

Yeah, I got that feeling just by looking at what was in/out. Definitely seems like the next game in the series will add in more content while keeping most of what 6 has to include more content. Pity about the loss of the collesium though, I loved that mode even if Yakuza 5 tested my patience with it sometimes (doing it 4 times took the piss for the 100% completion).

Any heat move lists up yet? Watching the above vid showed that I missed quite a few so it'd be great if I had a reference guide as I played so that I manage to squeeze the most out of the fighting engine. I imagine a Japanese wiki is being put together as I type this though, so hopefully by the time my copy arrives a decent moves list will exist.

I feel like even though there's not literal styles there has to be moves or something that expand the fighting engine later in the game?

Awesome! Now I can post videos of heat moves on Facebook and Twitter! I'm still confused as to why Ishin blocked share function.

The heat move list has also been removed. RGG6 is like GTA4 from GTASA.

That seems like a decent comparison now I think about it - both used new graphical engines, largely updated physics engines and had neither had the amount of side content that its predecessors had. Only differences are that thankfully 6 still has plenty of side stuff, and hopefully its far better than what GTA IV ended up being (couldn't stand the story on that one after a point... so joyless). Plus if it means Yakuza 7 is comparable to GTA V I'm sold already!

I was always under the impression it was prevent from the story from being shared online. But they went super heavy handed and only let you share post game content which was hugely annoying so I'm glad this is being reversed. Just blocking the story cutscenes like other games do is fine with me.

Unless it's really later, I don't think there's much else. Outside of the demo stuff, you get a charge attack but there's no extra improvements there (like heat gain, invincible frames, etc). Extra sways, tiger drop, a counter, grab after finisher. Basically all the normal moves from past games.

I got a message from the battle master/tutorial guy about reaching new heights once I max out all the basic attributes to 200, but I am pretty sure that will just unlock to 300. I'm not expecting a huge list of new moves. It'd be really odd for them to unlock the battle system that late in the game, it takes awhile to get everything to 200 (mostly because it feels like the technique points come super slow compared to the other four). I'm at A rank in the heat/battle move lists without having maxed everything too, I assume that will be S once you obtain all.

I'd like to know what resolution VF5FS is running at in Yakuza 6. On XBLA, PSN and in the arcade it's 720p. On Xbox One S I believe it is native 720p upscaled to 4k.

Does anyone know how to accurately measure this?

Not sure myself but I have a new 4K TV with the Pro so I started playing it today but I couldn't start Final Showdown in the menu, it gave me a menu prompt I didn't understand. Maybe I have to go play it in the game to unlock it in the start menu.

Anyway I will be at least also giving my critical eye to the port. I'm sure excited to play it soon. So far I've been enjoying the game.

Those are some really nice pics. Selfie mode might be one of the best new additions to the game. Also, how many games have you look after a baby (or kids/orphans for that matter)? Certainly a nice change of pace compared to all the shooting/killing games I've been playing recently!

I am on Chapter 7 and am having a good time.

I appreciate the full voice for the sub-stories, but sometimes it comes off weird since they didn't put much effort into animating the NPCs. You have the typical melodrama sub-stories with some scenes that are supposed to be moving, but the NPCs sometimes stand there like mannequins and have very little facial animations. I guess that is better than something like Iris in FFXV.

The adult chat mini-game is kind of uncomfortable to play, but it can be pretty hilarious.
I laughed out loud when the girl took off her blouse, and Kiryu typed oppai oppai (titties!) with the other perverts in the chat room.

The games looks pretty good overall, but walking through Onomichi and Kamurocho at night is awesome.

Got my copy of RGG6 in the mail yesterday, but for some reason all of the arcade games, ie; Super Hang-On, Outrun, and Space Harrier won't work for me. They just black screen, I can go back to the PS4 main menu, but I can't get out of the mini games. Any help?

Is Yakuza 6 really the last game? The ending really ends Kiryu's story perfectly and I felt so many emotions when
Kiryu visited the orphanage one more after faking his own death

How do you make VF5 Final Showdown playable? Do you have to progress to a certain area? Also when I go to the Sega arcade I see classic games but not VF 5.

Edit: Nevermind I found it in the lower southern part of the city. It looks amazing in 4K oh my godddd!

let's hope it's the last Kiryu game
From what the developers said it will be. Honestly not sure if I'd want to play newer entries without Kazuma though. :(

Assuming you have played through the game, I ask you for a single spoiler
is Haruto really Haruka's baby?

I'm gonna replay Yakuza 4 before 0 comes out. Of the ones I played, 4 was always my favorite mainline game (out of 3, 4, and 5). 4 had that scene which brought up how
Majima got his story started in 0
, so I figured it'd be fun to play again.

I wish I had the time to do that, but with 6 arriving soon I won't have the chance! Its a good move though, since there are a couple of references in 0 to that incident.
