Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite Gameplay Trailer

I know I'm in the minority, but I like the non-comic-shaded style so much more. All models look great except for X's creepy fixed eyes.

Would people be happy if instead of a MVC2/3-esque assist system, we got a MvC1-like helper, with many dedicated assist characters?

Don't assume you're the minority. I like it, and am seeing a lot of people react positively to it as well. I like MVC3's look as well, but not everybody demands cel shading.

Given how early this is, I wouldn't be surprised if the TvC partner attack is experimented with before the game is final. While I personally wouldn't mind the MvC1 dedicated assist, that might be too time consuming for a 3D game. MvC1 got away with using single sprites for assists, sometimes with just 3 or 4 frames of animation. You'd have to model, rig, and light a complete model for an assist in this game.

Though I suppose you could just cheat by making most of the assists benched characters from UMVC3. That might come across as extremely cheap though.

That's a good writeup.

They have basically made this game with the precept that it must be approachable by casuals. That's why there are only two-character teams and no assists. Keeping it simple. They wouldn't even commit to confirming a 6-button layout, said they want this game to be just as playable a controller.

Well, there it is. That's an interesting strategy. :P

Yeah... I had already come to this conclusion during the reveal trailer this morning. SFV's reveal had a heavy focus on the FGC and the hardcore culture around Street Fighter... and in the end that focus was seen largely as why that game didn't sell as well as expected.

MvC∞ debuted with no tournament b-roll... and with clearly worded write ups about arcade mode, cinematic story, and a slew of single player content that SFV was dinged on. SFV also debuted with the Mike Ross vs Combofiend match.... where's our Chris G vs Combofiend MvC∞ match?

That's not who they want to ultimately sell this game to.

Oh man.... you've seen 40 seconds of gameplay and guys are saying its SFxT 2 and no assists hurt the game immeasurably?? Good lord.

See you jokers on launch day.

Agreed

Don't feel bad. MvC3 was the game where if someone got a lucky first hit on me I had more than enough time to throw a pizza in the oven and start my laundry before I got to control my second character.

One of the reasons I love KI. You're still "in the game" when getting comboed. You have to pay attention to properly break (if you're not guessing). The two players are actively participating while a combo is going on, unlike the VS series.

While Marvel wants to take a forward-thinking stance with the characters they include in the game, he wants to make sure fans of all of Marvel properties, including X-Men, were happy. “That heritage is not lost,” he told me. Not the straight answer I was looking for, but it left me hopeful about my chances of Berserker Barraging people as Wolverine next year.

from that GI article

MVC3 & UMVC3 was targeted towards the casual gamer they even had simple button layout and shit and it was the community that transformed how those games would play.

I'm really looking forward to this game. :) I'm sure they will make it easy to get into but leave enough combo potential for the godlike shit :)

Lighting needs work but it's only early days atm.

Things I like:
-The speed looks perfect
-Graphics look great and animations are clearly distinguished. Clear Capcom quality.
-Gem system could be a great replacement to switch teams up, x factor system was garbage.

Things I'm cautious about:
-2 team system changes this to a tag fighter. Assists were a huge part of Marvel and I can see why the hardcore following would be upset by it. Tag fighters in general do not have a good run.

Happy this is more grounded. UMVC3 was too much bullshit and combos that kill you after a single hit confirm. It will let the game be more balanced instead of being Dr. Doom vs Capcom.

Yeah, like I mentioned in the other thread, the Marvel characters look way prettier than the Capcom ones.

Almost like Marvel required them to a certain standard before any videos, and Capcom just doesn't care as much about their guys. ;p

It will let the game be more balanced instead of being Dr. Doom vs Capcom.

:jnc

SFV looked terrible on the first reveal now look at it, It's the second best looking FG behind Revelator. I already like how the game looks and it will only improve as time goes on.

I personally can't wait for more news on this game

Not if Capcom loses the license again. Also, you think TOD combos won't be figured out for this game?

Why are people relating this to SFxT? Wasn't there a Marvel game that already had the Infinity Stones in it as part of the gameplay?

Looks actually playable by normal human beings. The FGC will crucify it.

Let's get real: marvel 2 was a fucking mess that got tgrown together without care for balance or design and became a beautiful monster the community created.

MvC3 was the sequel to that, where it was given slightly more design focus and polish.

What capcom needs is for mvcI to be the smash 4 to mvc2's melee.

Keep the competitive depth but expose that to everyone, not make it an accident based on not enough QA and bug testing.

I can see it working. The marvel series has dug it's way too far down this rabbit hole of crazy mixups and infinites and combos that require dozens of hours of practice to memorize.

Reigning that in a little bit might not be so bad. If thry don't go too far and turn it into a really simple game.

You two I like.

It being 2v2 kills me.

There are more 2v2 vs series games then there are 3v3, even before infinite.

People act like marvel 2 is the Paradigm for all vs capcom games but it really is a crazy outlier. The game where capcom just threw it all in the pot and set the temp to high. That game was a huge asset flip and unbalanced mess. It's a miracle that any kind of meta game or high level play came out of it.

And actually, without banning certain broken or game breaking(crashes) techinques mvc2 is a busted game.

This looks really really good. If they make this playable to the average gamer without needing a literal "simple mode" then that is only a good thing. Those specials still look hype as hell.

Looks great to me. Wish they would have gone with an art style that was more daring but I don't mind it. Couldn't hear too well but I hope characters saying their partner's names when tagged in is still around.

With the Marvel 3 re-release on current gen... I can definitely see this becoming a Smash Bros Melee/ Smash Bros Brawl situation.

I'd love to be wrong and MvC∞ turns out to be a masterpiece.... but I really think there's going to be a significant amount of Marvel players that try to hold down UMvC3.

I don't see how you can think that when Ken exists. I think MvC3 looks better than SF5.

I am getting original MvC vibes from this. I can also see a little TvC in there too. Both felt more enjoyable and less frenetic than MvC3 so I am pleased thus far.
