Yakuza Community Thread - FEEL THE HEAT!

Finally.....after all these long years of hoping, wishing and wanting....

WE CAN AT LONG LAST EAT AT WILD JACKSON!!!!

Also loving that the shops and restaurants in Millennium Tower are now usable.

The dream has been realised. Can't wait for my demo to finish downloading (my power savings options were too restrictive and my PS4 went to sleep the same time I did!)

The number of the sub-stories is only
52
:(

Pity. But I hope they are at least more involved/detailed to make up for the smaller number.

Got through the beginning story cinematics last night. My only frame of reference of the series' story was from playing through Kiwami (almost finished with it) so I was a little lost with what happened but the city and fighting are amazing. Gonna try to finish Kiwami in the next couple days then jump back into 6.

Also just curious, I just got a PS4 Pro, is the game automatically 4K if your settings and TV say you're in 2160p mode or do you need to change a setting to make it so?

So yeah, the Yakuza 6 demo is so far really living up to my expectations (and I'm insanely hyped for the game!). I love the freedom you get in the city now. More places to explore and no load times to slow you down. Taking me ages to learn where everything is again though, as so many of the stores and play areas have moved around.

Hats off to the Yakuza team for once again creating a game where I'll put 100's of hours into! I love the changes made to the batting center and the Karaoke is as fun as ever. Can't wait to get into the arcade in the full game. Also, I just love the photo mode and improved first person view in the game (walking in first person view finally. Getting to admire all the details in the shops and streets...

Yeah eventually I just started skipping the intro cinematics, there were so many! Not that that's a problem I just wasn't expecting it. Really hoping Salty Yen starts making some English walkthrough videos soon so I can at least follow along and enjoy the story. Gonna try and wrap up Kiwami today or tomorrow. Feel like I need to at least finish that game before jumping back into 6.

yeah, still really hopeful kiwami's announced at PSX - really puzzled by the somewhat mixed reactions ive seen to it here/elsewhere, is it really just Nemesis-like Majima that's throwing folks off? cause it looks fantastic

Guys you know, "hypothetically" speaking if we talk about these stuff in that Yakuza starter thread on gaming side the chances of more people seeing it and then becoming interested in the series will be much higher.

I'm just saying *winks*

People didn't like that aspect of the game? I thought it was pretty neat and the fights with him were never really that hard to overcome. I think I have 6 out of 10 encounters with him so far.

I think my only real complaint with the game is that the difficulty is kind of dependent really just by how many health power ups you have in your inventory. If you go into a tough battle unprepared with a low stock of health items then you're basically screwed unless you just reload your save and buy more items. it just seemed kind of like bad game design in terms of having the difficulty be dependent, mainly just cheap bosses who would deplete your stock quickly. Hoping that Yakuza 6 falls less under this kind of aspect.

ah, i see - you playing on normal or hard? i know a lotta folks start on hard, thinking i should do that from now on too, since you often can't do ex-hard without it and i hate replaying so many times for a plat, haha

Problem with the Majima anywhere system is that he appears far too frequently and you have to fight him over and over to unlock certain moves. It gets annoying after a while, especially as he can spawn randomly and force you into a fight. That said, I did love competing against him in many mini games, as well as some of the darn right bizarre lengths he goes to in order to confront you (have you done the hostess club encounter yet?) Its a good idea and gets more Majima into the game, but they kinda went overboard on it in my opinion. Less is better sometimes (that and the frequency of the fights really hurt his actual boss encounters, as they felt less impactful and epic when you did meet him in the story).

Bar the frequency of Majima and the woeful arcade (Yakuza 0 and 6 beat it hands down!) I loved the game. Its basically the first game that looks and runs better, with more story, more content and much better combat and controls. Still ranks just below Resident Evil REmake as best game remake ever (and I LOVE REmake!)

The reason I don't like Y5 (only in comparison to the other fantastic games of the series) is in my eye it has by far the worst story of all the games and it brings it down heavily. Mostly that coupled with the illusion of scale being broken by seeing all the quests, I really only remember 1 or 2 sidequests with the highs of the CRAZY shit of former games and lack of revelations and such I guess I just feel like they definitely spread way too thin by having too much in Y5.

Gameplay and Structure wise: The combat is still the same great combat, I love the new food overhealth system, don't remember it in 4, helps counter the dumb 50 bar boss syndrome of former games. Of the characters, I love how they tried to push characters gameplay further in their unique directions by adding "systems" but really all I used were Saejima's throw combos, visually appealing and amazing aoe utility, everyone else's were kind of moment to moment gimmicks. I hate Sanada he's kind of a boring character both in gameplay and story. Of the "Side Campaign/Game Systems" I love the idea, albeit they're all pretty simple, in Kiryu and Sanada's side games you REALLY feel the power growth by the end of it, the others were pretty much the same throughout.

Story Wise *Attempt to stay spoilerless*: Like I said I think Y5 has the worst story of them. Honestly I feel like even with Yakuza suspension of disbelief this is the most throwaway story due to the fact that pretty much NONE. NOOOOOOOONE. of the playable characters have a direct link to anything happining in the story in comparison to like Y1 dealing with relations with Nishiki, Y2 Kiryu's Mentor, Y3 Kiryu's Family, Y4 Kiryu's Legacy. Really I only remember very few crazy high moments of this game in comparison to others, people will know the one's I'm talking about whether it's scale or power battles. But the lows were lower than Y3 to me, seeing all the quests on the map with everything being spread out between so many characters made it feel super small, I was initially fine with the dance minigame until you were forced to do the same song literally 50 times and the characters of the arc was insanely uninteresting, same with Sanada arc for characters, give me Tanimura instead any day. The singular 1v1 boss fights were all pretty mediocre and nothing rivaled the build up of the 1v2 in Y4. To me at least Y3 dealt with personal connections bother in Kiryu's civilian family and his Yakuza one's directly, lots of great revelations to watch, the finishing of that shit that was being built for 3 games, and personally while a bit long I found the Orphanage really charming,
give that black kid a cowboy hat and he'll get the ladies.
The thing that probably got me to hate it the most was everything leading to the final boss reveal, god even by Yakuza standards that shit is garbage. Great game, but sour notes of being the Yearly inbetween game before main team works on the new engine good shit. psst Yakuza 0.

^i get that, 4 tied its events together far better but still had people i didn't know why they were there, much less fighting. and the "twist" on seajima's incident still seemed unnecessary

also while Shinada wasn't the most fun to play as, i really liked the guy & his story, myself. it was a change of pace playing as someone so broke, haha - and all the baseball & porn stuff was fun too, even his loan shark grew on me as supporting cast.

I am playing through Y5 right now.

I started it when it was released last year in English and ran into a wall pretty early on in Saejima's section and I bounced off hard, then my PS3 broke.

So over the last two weeks while I was on break I restarted and I'm about to bounce off again. I usually like these games and their style, I would consider myself a pretty big fan but this game feels like its actively driving me away, at least in this section, the whole thing apart from one encounter feels like padding, It just keeps going. ATM i'm stuck
on a mountain, I've got to look for some old dude who saved me, I know the game really wants me to give a shit about this bear and village
but its all so goddamned boring.

Is it worth it to power through? does it get better? I mean I have Titanfall 2 to play and FFXV, but I know if I don't finish this before 0 comes out I'm never going back.

Depends. Once you reach the city with Seijima things do pick up the pace (I personally loved the small town section but I totally get how some don't). Problem is, after you complete Seijima's section you'll be playing as Haruka which some people didn't like either as it takes you out of the combat for a few further hours.

I never had any problem with the "Majima everywhere" system in Kiwami, like how some people have said, but since I'm a Majima fan, fighting him is always fun for me but if you want you can avoid almost most of his interactions especially when he's patrolling the street since you can run away or talk with a npc or go into a shop/restaurant or just wear the beads of good fortune and he leaves you alone even when he's hiding in stuff, which would only leave specific places he would then meet you at, like minigames but those don't result in him fighting you if you feel like things are getting tedious with him.

I play Yakuza like I play DMC, where as you shouldn't use any items in DMC, I barely use any items except for tauriners when I need to do specific heat moves for boss fights but other than that I avoid taking damage so I normally go into fights with alcohol in my inventory(if not drunk already) which makes enemies more aggressive but also you get a damage boost in some games while being drunk, while wearing the bloodied\blood-stained sarashi which in some of the games gives -20 defenses but either increases heat gain or gives 1.2/1.5x damage increase(depends on the game) and also have the champion's ring equipped which makes enemies even more aggressive so if I take damage, I take a ton of it which adds to the challenge. I have done no damage and no hit(in the case I'm doing the flashing health challenge in which you get a damage boost and heat regen at no life) for story bosses and also for Amon in the games.

I was staying near Suehirocho station and was busy on Friday/didn't even notice that this was going on until I saw the post on Facebook by YakuzaFan. I asked where it was as I was leaving my apartment I rented and saw all these people with Sega bags. I asked where and someone pointed me to that exhibit hall on the main strip. I went over there and took a few pictures and bought a few things. I had to meet some people to go to an event at an onsen... we went there and then came back... I messaged a friend of mine and ended up going back to get her a iPhone 7 Plus case with Kazuma Kiryu's back tattoo design and took a picture in front of the mocap setup. They had sold out of a few things I wanted.

The next day while walking to the main Akihabara station to meet a friend at Yoyogi Park (Ginza line was down so I had to take the Yamanote) I noticed some goods were back in stock so I went upstairs for a THIRD time to buy merch. Good event, I had a fun time. (After I went with my friend to the neatest arcade in Kawasaki...)

I really need to experiment with items more, especially stuff that makes the game harder. That'd certainly fix some of the minor issues I have with 4 and 5 in terms of difficulty. Its seriously impressive that you've done no damage runs against Amon, I'm usually just thankful if I actually manage to beat the guy, especially in Ishin where he had tons of heath and hits like a freight train! That was a nightmare...

Also, while still unconfirmed it sounds like the demo of 6 "might" support the PS4 Pro. I'm just going off my own experience, and that of one person on Gamefaqs. But so far the one thing we both had in common was that we aren't seeing any screen tearing where other people playing on the base PS4 do. I'm hoping for a Digital Foundry vid (or Sega to actually confirm it themselves) to know for sure, but it sounds like Pro support is the bare minimum on 6 which is a pity in one sense, but it does run ok and no screen tearing eliminates the biggest problem I had with the vids I've seen so far.
I know its too much to ask with it being an older game, but 0 fixed for the Pro to eliminate the small amount of frame rate drops and tearing in certain areas would be golden. Almost certainly won't happen but I can dream...

I bounced off Saejima's section when I was playing my import copy, then again when the English version was released before getting through it and proceeding to bounce off Haruka's chapter. After a few months I went back and powered through her chapter and it gets pretty good towards the end and then you got Akiyama and Sanada which are both awesome. You should power through their stuff. I don't remember it taking that long to get through that section unless you are doing the substories and the city you go to afterwards is pretty cool.

Side note from what I said about the series before, I do think that another reason that Y2 is so fuckin good is that the composer from 1-2 was on the next level, I don't know who or what happened after that but the Y2 final boss theme is fuckin phenomenal.

So thinking about it, I'm hoping that we can go shop at Kamurocho Hills now, since its always been a huge shopping center with lots of stores, that we've never really seen open to the public in the past games, so I'm thinking now it would be open and it would also have spots there you can take pictures of ghosts as well.

Plus it would be nice to have it add to the "new" look of Kamurocho just like how Millennium Tower is now, instead of being a chapter only fight spot.

I got through Haruka's section yesterday. I think I preferred it to Saejima's hunting stuff. I stopped once I got to Akiyama I saved and will start his part tonight, I expect it will pick up but I'm hoping he doesn't end up having a mini game focus.

its sad to say but Y5 might be my personal low point in the series though. I think I can put my finger on why as well, it feels like the mini games (hunting, taxi driving, dancing and Idol stuff not to mention the drawn out prison sequence, but at least that's story appropriate) is the priority, not the icing on the Yakuza cake.

But every road leads to Kamurocho Hills is blocked. Even in some preview presentation using the premium adventure mode, those roads were blocked. I guess the green road blocks won't be open in the game.

Bah, hope that is changed in the full game. Exploring Kamuracho Hills should be in Yakuza 6 seeing as its open now (unless its now closed!). Especially with the rest of the city being so much more open...

I might start Yakuza 4 after I'm done with my finals. Do I need to play 1-3 before 4? Should I play 5 after 4?

4 does have some decent recaps of the first three games if you'd rather not play through all of them (I personally prefer to play through the series in order but its not required, most stories are fairly self contained). 5 does carry on from 4 more closely compared to the other games in the series, but its up to you. See if you enjoy 4 and then take it from there.

I expect a Yakuza 0 demo to be announced to be available during PSX '16.
Assuming it'd be like the JP demo, we should inform peeps not to expect much from it.

That demo would do more harm than good honestly. You're pretty much just walking the entire demo, there's little combat and mini-games are locked iirc.

I pre-ordered mine from Play-Asia, but I like Nin-Nin Game for imports as well.

Looks like AmiAmi has it cheapest... but I didn't know about the limited editions which nin-nin game carries. Probably going overboard to get LE's of an import which will likely hit NA shores in a couple years, so I'll probably just get standard.

You can get into random fights and play with the three fighting styles, but there isn't really all that much in the actual demo from what I remember. You go to a bar with Nishiki and maybe visit Kuzo in his office but that's pretty much it from what I remember, its a pale shadow of the actual chapter 1 in 0 (which has an epic battle at the end of the chapter).

What...walking around Kamurocho with Nishiki, singing with Nishiki, slurping ramen with Nishiki...that demo features the bestest moment in the entire RGG saga.

I've said it before and I'll continue saying it.

Always believe, even when things look dark and you think Sega wouldn't deliver, always trust in this man!

Wow didn't expect a Yakuza 6 for early 2018 announcement. Still importing it though.

Same here. I'm not waiting more than a year to play a game that is due out next week in Japan! Super hyped to see Kiwami coming as well. Excellent move on Sony/Sega's part. Its also great that fans that didn't own a PS2 or don't want to play the original (which is pretty long in the tooth these days) can finally experience the first game. Now with 1000% more Majima.

So three games from the same series announced and coming out like 6 months between each other.

This is a record, RIGHT?! We've enterted the big league!

(I'm sure Sonic and Mario managed it in the 90s.)

You know what is the best thing about this guys? We can fucking chill and play Y0 without worrying about the future of the series.

And for now I can stop shoving Yakuza posts/gifs down everyone's throats in every NeoGAF thread, in hope of getting more sales for Yakuza 0.
