Yeah I think this will probably be my xmas treat to myself and pick it up closer to xmas day. The demo's fantastic, it also has full controller support and actually works pretty well from my time with it as far as I can tell. Feels a bit different as you are directly controlling the characters too. I must pick up the devs previous game The Last Tinker also, heard that wasn't too bad either.

Wait, when you play with a gamepad, you control the characters directly?

I played some this after seeing Feudal Japan + Commandos an couldn't resist. https://youtu.be/7g8xK91ghb4 It's so, so much better than I was expecting. BTW I'm not good at stealth, so don't judge too harshly!

I also think the shadow execute tactic is pure genius. Really awesome pulling off a 3 person Shadow Tactic.

Sounds pretty good. Was in the mood for a Commandos-style game recently but there really isn't anything worth playing except for the original first two Commandos and Desperados.

Good it's gaining some traction, the dev' was saying it was hard to get press coverage (and why the demo I suppose).

This game is definitely a day1 affair for me. Didn't even yet try the demo but read all I could and watched gameplay footages and it looked very cool.

Regarding the price you're guessing it right.

very excited for this. I'm especially glad that it has full controller support. Guess this will also make it to the consoles then.

Atmospheric and impossible to rush, Shadow Tactics is a fabulous game – a game I think I prefer to both Commandos 2 and Desperados.
From RPS no less? Wow. I saw it was releasing soon but these words grabbed my attention hard. I think the game looks incredible as well.

I really enjoyed this, thanks a lot!

God damn this game is sick. How come nobody else really made any Commandos like games except for Desperados and Robin Hood back in the days? At least I can't think of any.

Have you played Star Trek: Away Team?

No I haven't but I was mostly speaking in recent terms. Like even the smallest sub-genre had its revival in the last 10 years of the indie and DD revolution but this particular genre was completely glossed over.

Maybe because this is a very difficult genre to make a good game in?

Satellite Reign was decent.

I thought I'd bump the thread by saying this is out right now and 35.99 (-10% Release Date discount). 4.5 GB. I bought it, hope others who are interested will too!

Only played the first level(never played the demo), and the game is so good for fans of Commandos. I'm sure this will hook new players as well. I'm impressed at how well done the UI, tips and controls are. Everything feels like care was put into it. Some of the extra challenges seem insane at first look as well, so some long term replay value for the hardcore(don't touch any bushes???).

I think this is a surprise shoo in for my top ten, it's just such a solid package and feels good to play.

German gaming site 4players gave it a 8.5 (gold award)

Pros

- real time tactics à la Commandos
- pretty scenery of old Japan
- good move and hide system
- characters with different strengths
- good integration of verticals like roofs
- cool traps, tricks and fallacies
- considerate guardsmen, being respnsive to footprints
- very large areas with alternative goals
- rotatable and zoomable camera
- arbitrary keys, adjustable controls
- good integrated tutorial and hints
- english and japanes language
- save and load anytime
- three difficulty levels

Cons

- story doesnt gain that much momentum?
- No skill or equipment development
- sometimes inconsequent restriction in climbing/opening doors?
- brutal/subtile style of play without consequences
- No building interiors
- ̶n̶̶o̶̶ ̶̶g̶̶e̶̶r̶̶m̶̶a̶̶n̶̶ ̶̶l̶̶a̶̶n̶̶g̶̶u̶̶a̶̶g̶̶e̶

"If you like your realtime tactics with a flavor of old school like Commandos or Desperados then you can look forward to intense infiltration with challenging missions and superb AI."

Game is great! Basically really a modern Commandos / Desperados but with lots of nice touches, surprisingly polished, hits all the right notes so far. Probably a little too early to tell but for now I'd call it Daedalic's best.

Daedelic published it only, it was developed by Mimimi Productions

I'm pleasantly surprised by how well this game is being reviewed. I spent a ton of time inching my way through Commandos as a child and could definitely go for a new one of those.
