How do you expect to see change when people aren't showing support for the content? These companies are clearly trying to diversify their lines and people are vocal in wanting it, but don't want to buy crap. You say the system is rigged, but that's just means you need to take advantage of the opportunities you do get. For example, you say that people have wanted an America book for years, but if they don't support it then it's obviously not going to last and the same people will come back to complain.

Also, Brevoort said the myths about only certain types of sales mattering is BS.

A) If money is the only thing that'll make Marvel do the right thing, that's very much fucked up, and, considering how big of a deal they make about being super cool and progressive, it feels super hypocritical
B) Especially considering how little effort they put into making and marketing books with diverse characters. Like, for every Ms. Marvel, which, let's be honest, is One Ms. Marvel, there's at least 2 or 3 Red Wolf
C) Yeah, remember Red Wolf? That was a thing! That was practically sent to die, and which got cancelled faster than checking who was on this book that was not Nathan Edmondson

These are choices that Marvel are making. And, as long as they make them, things aren't gonna change.

To be fair, maybe they gave him that book once they realized they had in under contract. Watch him finish out his contract doing Infinite books.

A) why would Marvel put out books that put up cancellation numbers, especially when they have diverse books that do really well and show those books can do better.

B) you're ignoring books like Champions, Thor, Spider-Man, and Black Panther that got pushes along with many others.

Red Wolf's ongoing got cancelled, but he was the second member announced for Occupy Avengers.

I dropped it before the first arc. Surprised to see it still ongoing

I believe when Umbral got cut short, Johnston mentioned something about having some sort of arrangement that the fuse would get 4 volumes minimum. Although, have they surpassed that by now?

Also lol Snyder on Twitter about his arc with Murphy on all star

The story with @sean_g_murphy has Old Man Bruce tones... Opens in the future with scavenging Bruce talking to a living Joker head in a jar.

In light of recent events: what's a "Wednesday Warrior"? Is that a Weekend Warrior, but more lame?
In my experience, it's just a Japanese name. Not sure if it has any other uses though.
I know I'm just making a joke about how his powers work. It's weird as shit.
Read through Joe Golem vol. 1 this morning. I REALLY enjoyed it.
Good to see you really like it. Now go read the damn novel!

Haha I do need to do that. I actually checked to make.sure the comic doesn't spoil the book but it's set before. I spotted in an interview too that similar to Baltimore they will effectively adapt the book into the comic as they go on, but yea, thanks.for the reminder. I would like to read that. Knee deep in the fireman right now as far as novels go but maybe next! I really loved that trade though. Do you read Baltimore too??

I am faaaaairly sure I posted this not long ago. In fact I'm sure he spoke of it as more of a certainty a few weeks ago but maybe its still in the air judging by the wording here.

Did specifics on Nathan Edmondson ever come to light? I remember a year ago there were stories that basically said "he's horrible, he did some bad stuff... but we can't say what or who our sources are".

I assume he probably IS a prick, and he seems to have some conservative leanings, but the implication seemed to be that he was guilty of something heinous... abuse or something. Last September when all those stories happened, they all said stuff like "we'll look into these rumors more". But a quick search of "Nathan Edmondson allegations" or "Nathan Edmondson controversy" doesn't show anything newer than back then.

Did he just get labeled as "toxic" in people's minds and that was that? Maybe he really is, but it's a little uncomfortable to think that people can just lose in the court of public opinion like that without any kind of specifics. If there wound up being something substantial, great.

This seems kind of... tone deaf? I don't like how this is worded at all even if the ultimate message is "you should buy it". There is nothing wrong with fans and creators who want to show their support and will send a more important message than a couple hundred extra sales to a comic you already cancelled.

Just rubs me the wrong way.
lol, fuck off Brevoort
Kate Leth raised a good point about this, does any of the money go to Cain/Jones?

Mmm probably not.

I'd say that's rooted in the shitty compensation structure for Marvel ephemera across the board. Jim Lee probably didn't get any money from the H&M Longshot t-shirt I bought either. :(
Idk about this specific instance, but I think Welovefine is generally reputable, like those Fraction/Aja Hawkeye shirts were approved and the proceeds went to charity

H&M/Forever 21/Hot Topic shirts almost certainly do not though

Edit: Proceeds go to Marvel, but from then on, who knows

Iirc people were saying he's a sexual predator but couldn't reveal anything since the victims didn't want to come forth and that Edmondson is litigious.

It usually takes someone willing to come forward and say something. Fowler didn't out Brian Wood herself but given some specifics some people figured out it was him. Allie wouldn't have been outed if Joe Harris hadn't been willing to come forward. Given Allie's reputation prior to that incident there is likely other victims who were unwilling to come forward.

Jesus he is liberal with his spoilers

But I love it

I know w hat he means but it reads like more of a business thing..."If you don't buy Mockingbird #8 we'll cave to the trolls" etc. I also can't work out if Rich Johnston's latest editorial is super sarcastic (which, considering he's british, it could well be) or if he's just that dense.

Tom tends to lose his temper from time to time. You should have read his Formspring when they introduced Captain Falcon. He screams and comes of super shitty like here and in the next answer to the same topic he sounds like he puts way more thought in his answer.

Everyone can send him questions through his Tumblr and I really dont want to see his inbox right now.

I think there was another post regarding this topic a few days ago, will look into it if I can find it.

The Fuse is good. Scifi police procedural with a diverse cast and interesting worldbuilding. Ticks off a lot of boxes for me.

Shame about the Umbral. I felt it was starting to hit its stride when it got cancelled.

Codename: Baboushka is the only recent Johnston series I dropped and that was more to do with the art than any deficiencies in the writing. One of the few occasions where that's happened.

I'd check out anything he does at this point ( and secretly hope for a return to Umbral at some stage).

Oh no it's not your fault. If it's literally from the creator, it's not a spoiler, it's promotion.

Haha, you've got a point there . I went back and tagged it anyway, just in case.

I relaly liked Umbral too, gorgeous to look at, and they were building a world there. A real shame. Have you read Wasteland?

DQB is consuming me. So good, need to post my thoughts in its thread later.

Yessssss. Me too. I'm up to chapter 3. Two things to remember, you can build upwards. All my towns have multiple floors. Don't build outside the area with the happy town music, because anything outside that area will get temporarily wiped away for the boss fight. I learned that the hard way.

Falcon can die in a fire. we will agree on that. I do not want him near champions.

Isn't Falcon a little too old for that team? Unless he wants to fill the creepy uncle role.

Hmmm..... Very tempting.

When Trump wins they'll be more optimistic about comics not dying? No one respects women comic creators more than Trump too.

When Trump wins, people will be less optimistic about everyone not dying.

The future they envision for us

I am down. Call me Freeza Rockatansky.

Man, all these Square Enix news.

I have been sleeping. Where is the newses. Tell me the newses.

I've been saying it's rigged for years, I'm still waiting for legend of dragoon 2.

Legend of Dragoon was a really solid game. I'm a bit surprised it never saw a sequel. On the other hand, my favorite JRPG in recent years has to be Lost Odyssey. Probably one of the best examples of the modern JRPG I've played.

Marvel started losing me when Red She Hulk was cann'd and officially lost me with the deaths of Rhodey, Jennifer, and Bruce and they obviously aren't bringing some other favorites of mine back (Patriot).

Red She-Hulk was always a gimmick. Same with Red Hulk. Copycat characters like that don't really have what it takes to carry their own books for the long haul. Luckily, Jen isn't dead and will have her own solo book coming starting December. I expect it to be angrier than past She-Hulk comics.

Comics can pump the brakes for now cuz Titanfall 2 tonight is gonna be lit as fuck.

I think I'll be waiting for price-drops on both Titanfall 2 and Infinite Warfare. Dishonored II is the next big game for me.

Remember when Morbius got an ongoing?

Ha ha barely.

I dropped it before the first arc. Surprised to see it still ongoing

It means you've been sleeping on it, son.

Huh, weird. Comixology doesn't have preorders up for any further issues of Jem. It didn't get cancelled on the down low or something, right?

Do we have a consensus on the new Alias book?

Kind of too early to tell. It's got better than average Bendis writing, and sets up some interesting things, but there was some things that made some long time readers mad, that we don't have enough information about.

I was trying to avoid spoilers, but those are hardly sentences.

Not a chance there is a misfits book coming too.

Alias "Spoiler":
Thats not the wife of Ulysseus, right?

Havent really read it yet, just flipped through, but her meeting with that woman was super interesting and I am excited to see where it is going.

Well, you did it in 24 fewer loot boxes than I did. But you also realize that now you've become part of the problem.

The problem? I have no problem giving them 50$ every few months for new costumes and shit considering how much I play it. Plus you can buy the stuff with currency now.

Yeah, that was a big fuck you when they didn't let you use currency for the Summer Games costumes.

Yeah. I read the first three trades and really liked it. Then they started to release the hardcovers which I switched over to collecting. Just not got round to actually finishing that series off yet.

Solicit is out for #23, so it's still going.

Cool, thanks guys. Caught me off guard because I just finished catching up and it gave me the "you have reached the end" instead of prompting me to preorder like it normally would, and then I checked the page for the series and there was nothing past the latest issue. But yeah, just Comixology being weird, I guess.

Also yay, artist change did not kill the book for me! Like, it's still sad and I don't think it looks as good as it did, but it still looks acceptable enough for me to keep reading. I'd say a large part of that though is Campbell absolutely nailing it in setting down a look and template for the series to carry on after she left, so again, heavy props there once more.

Awesome, I think it's volume 3 dog tribe, I really love that one. It's really good, it suffers some really tough art for an arc when Mitten drops off, but it picks up again with volume 7, and Mitten actually came back for the last volume which was cool. Umbral was supposed to be their big get back together at a larger publisher too :(

It's fantastic. The final few issues were intense as hell.
AMAZING. I have fallen in love with that series. Went through the show and the manga last year and had a blast. Don't know anything about comiXology manga though.
Thanks, picked up the whole series after reading the first volume. It's my first manga, and I'm really liking it so far. Relatively simple plot, crazy action and body horror gore, great art

Marvel's a company and they can't support their work if no one pays for it. Artists/Writers can't survive on good feelings alone. If half the people who tweeted support bought a book then maybe companies would stop listening to the trolls.

If you like that type of thing, I would definitely check out Junji Ito's manga. Especially Uzumaki.
