Already registered but does anyone have a list of states that support mail in voting or is it just the 3 that were mentioned above?

I re-registered last week. And this will be my first time voting by mail-in ballot. I can't taking any more polling place lines in AZ

It's important that everyone takes a look at the registration deadline for their state, just to ensure everyone has a chance to register before the General Election.

Florida doesn't allow online registration but their DOE site has a form to fill out and then it auto populates a pdf of a registration form to either mail in or drop off

So, um, I have a question. I just graduated from College in May, and I currently have a full time job in New York City.

I'm currently living with my grandmother, because NYC is expensive and she has an apartment very close to my office. However, my "official" address is still at my parent's house back in New Jersey. This lets me avoid paying city tax (and is perfectly honest IMO, as I go back home to New Jersey most weekends)

Where do I register, how do I vote?

Tough one... technically you should declare the NY residency as your primary since you live there most of the time, but you are claiming the NJ address and receiving your mail and financial information there, so that's likely where you need to vote.

Dear Americans,

if you have not done this yet, please do so and do everything in your power to keep Trump the fuck away from the big red button.

Sincerely

The rest of the world

the GOAT way. Sad thing is, most of my family receives ballots, and into the trash they go.

I'll never understand this. Just take 2 minutes and drop it in a blue box.

Problem is, I CAN'T vote there. I work on election day. In Manhattan.

I'm assuming I can't do a write-in since I'm still in the country.

It depends on the state. Some allow mail-ins under different conditions.

Is there no early voting?

Question for Florida GAF. I have my parents address on my drivers license. Does that have any effect on where I can vote? I think it's been the same address on there since the last election but I definitely remember voting in another city...

Why do you even have to register to vote in the US? In Sweden, if you're eligible to vote, you're automatically "registered" and then just show up at your voting location the day of and do it. Why put these obstacles in the way? Seems like a way to control the uneducated masses and make democracy a bit less democratic.

1 out of 2 major political parties in the US tends to win elections more when less people go out to vote. You can guess which one.

How do you get the correct ballot?

Considering how easy it is the vast majority of people to register to vote, I imagine that most people who aren't registered don't care. In Texas you can check a box when you get your driver's license, that's how I got registered.

This is a stupid question but have they made it where you can vote online yet?
No, nor should they.

Think of it this way, we trust online banking because we can verify all the transactions we care about. Even if you're willing to forgo the secret ballot, verification of a electronic tally would be logistically impossible.

The way to use technology to improve voting is by enabling same day registration, check against duplicate voting to reduce need for provisional ballots, and customized printing of paper ballots so people can vote at any polling station.

Just registered because of this thread.

If you're not going to register to vote for the Presidential election at least do it for the down ticket races.

Bumping this thread, because there are now only 15 days left to register to vote in most states.

Register, it's really easy! Then you'll get to wear a neat sticker that said you voted!

I've been procrastinating on mailing in my voter registration update (I just moved) - didn't know there was a way way way way way easier way to do it online. Thanks buddy. Registered.

Not sure what you mean. Swedish and US elections work rather differently, so you'll have to elaborate.
In the US, we vote for a large number of offices on election day. President, Senator, Representative, Governor, a bunch of other statewide offices, State Senator, State Representative, county offices, municipal offices, etc... If you've ever heard of jokes about electing dog catchers, that's true in some areas. It could be argued that this is a "feature" of the US process, not a "bug."

Most of these offices have different jurisdictions, that's what Zoe was referencing when she said, "The items on your ballot can change from one street to the next." I live near the border between my city and the next town over, if I lived just down the street a bit, my ballot would be substantially different.

It's getting confusing to me in Virginia. I used to just register, bring in my voter ID, and be OK. Now I am bringing a picture ID, my voter reg card, I plan to have some bills on hand, etc.

GOP. Never stop being so aggressively transparently racist.

EDIT: I also look forward to the two hour wait to merely vote (like last time around), arguably our most precious right that should be made easily available to everyone - early or remote.

This is super important. Please please please please register to vote if you haven't, AmericaGAF.

Your voice DOES matter. Your vote DOES matter. YOU make a difference, always. This is your power, this is your ability to speak.

I do have a question. My fiance recently moved to TX from FL. She did the voter registration and everything and is now registered in TX. However, her ID is still a FL one. Would she have any problems voting with bringing in her new voter ID card and current picture ID?

If it helps any, she's white.

Lame. I wish Texas had early online voting. I want to vote and get it over with. Me and everyone I knows Trump isn't an option and going with Hillary. She wasn't my first choice, it was Bernie, but I'm not one of those Bust Bros, cause I'm not that stupid.

She'll have to fill out a form:

Here is a list of the supporting forms of ID that can be presented if the voter does not possess one of the forms of acceptable photo ID and cannot obtain one due to a reasonable impediment:

Valid voter registration certificate
Certified birth certificate (must be an original)
Copy of or original current utility bill
Copy of or original bank statement
Copy of or original government check
Copy of or original paycheck
Copy of or original government document with your name and an address (original required if it contains a photograph)
After presenting a supporting form of ID, the voter must execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration.

Though if she's lived here long enough to register, she really should get a Texas license. You have to jump through more hoops after the 90 day grace period.

I asked this in another thread but it got locked; didn't know this one existed.

I'm currently registered to vote in Oregon. I'm moving Illinois around October 21st. When do they send out ballots in Oregon? Will they forward me my ballot or do they not do that? Also how will I turn it in? Or am I just screwed this year?

Google now has stuff where if you search "[state] voter registration" or "[state] absentee ballot" they have a ready table of information in the results.

Apply for absentee ballot for OR now
http://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Documents/SEL111.pdf

Fill it out and mail in way before election day. When you settle in IL you can register to vote in IL after election day. Inform the OR election board about your change in address too.

If you're willing to look up some info about IL, it's probably possible for you to vote as IL resident instead of OR absentee.

all ready to go and fired up. i'm in texas, but fuck it, the presidency isn't the only thing at stake, there's a lot to do locally and in the congress and senate.

Registering to vote is the first thing I do whenever I move (after telling the post office).

Thankfully it's really, really easy to register in this state, and if you aren't registered it's exceptionally easy to do so at the polling place on election day.

We consistently have the highest (or second highest) turnout every election, so we're doing something right.

Thanks you so much, will print this out today and mail it.

I'm still bummed that this is the first election in my lifetime that I will have to do an absentee ballot. At least it is for a good/happy reason.

But, since I'm not voting in person, I'm a bit nervous on getting my ballot in the mail. I signed up for one online, I called and spoke to someone on the phone, and they have my request and everything is fine, but I'm still nervous since this is a big, important year.

Fortunately, the person responsible for such a cluster fuck is also elected. This shit isn't that hard, if they can't figure it out, they don't deserve to remain in office. I would tell you who that is, but the office and/or the title of the office changes from state to state. In my state, it's the county auditor.

how do i know if im registered
