I wouldn't trade the Olympics game for it.Because Nintendo specifically paid for 3 sonic games that turned out OK at best, then they appear to not be getting what might be the best 2d sonic since 3 & knuckles, while everyone else is.
I have to imagine the pool of people who wouldn't trade boom, lost world and a olympics game for this is small.
...Ah crap, does this means Sonic 3&K HD is never happening?
Game looks really dope though.
Don't give up hope, this means Sega is still happy giving taxman new Sonic work (and this makes it about six years now he's been working on one sonic project or another for sega). I prefer this anyway, because NEW ZONES.
Still hope for a S3&K. Maybe even a Knuckles Chaotix. I think someone said they saw the Combine Ring tv in on of the videos, though I never caught it myself.
Am I understanding this right? If there was really some licensing issue as has been mentioned before why is the 3&K rom still available for sale on Steam for the Genesis Classics collection? If it truly is a licensed music issue just release Taxman's remaster with a different or remixed soundtrack and then at a later time if they get the rights to the music back for 3&K they could patch it back in. Sonic CD has two soundtracks the U.S version and Japanese. So it could work like that.

Holy shit. The soundtrack for this game is going to be AMAZING
I believe Taxman has already created Sonic 3 & Knuckles in his engine. For whatever reason Sega hasn't let him release them on iOS or Android. It's been said over and over, but Sonic 1,2, 3 & Knuckles remasters should be on console and PC. His Sonic CD remaster made it to console and PC, but the others have not yet. So after Mania comes out they need to reconsider releasing the original trilogy to console and PC.
Personally, I don't want that at all. Not right now.
1. The original graphics are appealing to me as an old schooler, but more than that, they communicate to me that the physics and gameplay are intact to the originals. In that sense it does the exact thing that Mega Man 9 did. I look at it and instantly know everything about the intention of that game. It aims to give me a classic experience that plays as the originals did.
2. Modernized redrawing of classic artwork can work in a classic game revival, but it almost never does. The gaming landscape is littered with HD Sprite redraws and 2.5D reimaginings of classic games, and they're almost uniformly terrible. It's not that they couldn't possibly nail it, but it'd be the exemption to what 20 years of 8/16-bit updates have tended to deliver. We have examples of what happen when they try: Sonic 4. Street Fighter II HD Remix. New Super Mario Bros. At best, it's serviceable. I'm certainly NOT hoping for another effort like those.
It's not a rule for me. I'd be open to seeing an HD update try. But to immediately lament that this is classic style and not an update? You're not in the same world as me for hoping that. I'm actually grateful that for once, they didn't bother with their shitty graphical "update". That's the norm for revivals like this actually, and they're usually awful.
Ah, that could be the real reason then.As far as we know he did a concept with the first stage, but he didn't port the full game.
I hope this gets a boxed release, looks sweet.
Did Sonic 4 get one?
No, but S4 was very short due to being broken up into Episodes. They've said that Mania will be longer than Generations. With that said, they've only confirmed digital release so far.
Important to note: the game is being developed outside of SEGA. It's likely the developers do not have NX devkits. So they bring Project Sonic to the NX and not this one? On any Nintendo platform? Ok Sega lol.
Not that i care. If it's good i'll buy it on PC (or Neo if i get one), but it doesn't make any sense.

It's been confirmed to be over 10 zones with 2 acts?
HYPE!

What happened with Dimps? Up until Sonic Rush Adventure (2007), their Sonic was output was solid. Other games too. Then everything except for Colors DS was pretty bad, including non-Sonic stuff until like the okay Xenoverse.
NSMB is far more than serviceable, the others, sure.

Shit, they really said that? Even if that's ignoring the challenge stages, that's still a healthy sized Sonic game. Brilliant news.
How many of those levels are new zones though. :/
Oh yeah I didn't consider that.
That being said I'm sure we'll get a good mixture and some neat changes. I could already see in Green Hill Zone 1 that after you leave the tubes and are thrown into the air there seems to be a new area to explore up there.
Important to note: the game is being developed outside of SEGA. It's likely the developers do not have NX devkits.
Ok, that makes more sense. Hopefully they can get one after the system is revealed.I dont think Nintendo gave to Taxman a NX devkit.
Yup, i pointed it out because the Project Sonic trailer has the NX placeholder logo and this one doesn't but i don't think it's a mistake. The devkits thing makes sense though.Might just not be announced for NX yet.
Who knows, the 3D one being announced could be a mistake just like DQXI lol. Only Sega can't take it back because they've done the graphic already. I can't imagine Sega not putting a sonic game on the platform it generally makes the most money on. Or maybe taxman doesn't have a devkit yet - at this point they may just be going to key developers and I can't see sega being able to lend theirs.
Generations for 3ds or the PC/Console version? One was quite a bit longer then the other and that claim is suspect until that is clarified. No, but S4 was very short due to being broken up into Episodes. If any of yall havent (and i imagine its most of you), you should listen to his soundtrack for Major Magnet - its really good
