Is that a joke? Because that's who it is.

im sorry i know my humor is terrible

Sonic 4 2D visuals were really...dull and plastic looking. The controls were incredibly stiff, the music didnt sound anything like classic or even modern Sonic expectations, and I could go on...but you get the idea.

Footage from tssz.

By the way, does this mean Sonic Megamix is dead?

So watching that footage, it looks like we're getting sonic 3/&k style secret giant rings for the special zones:

Guessing they disabled it as they're not ready to show special zones (or they're just not done yet).

I'm happy about this, searching for giant rings was one of the best new things about 3, and by far my favouite way to access the special zone.

Quite true and, honestly, I don't care.

As I said, I wish developers would focus more on refining great ideas rather than searching for something new and different.

That's been one of Sonic's major problems. It just keeps going onto new things. With Colors and Generations, it seemed like they finally got a grasp of the 3D Sonic gameplay by ditching everything else and focusing on it. Then, with Lost World, they just really failed the game mechanics with horrible level design. I know people say the opposite, but there's not a lot of times when you can use the mechanics provided to you in that game.

It also didn't help that Lost World brought back older 3D Sonic games' bad ideas of long levels whereas Colors/Generations cut down level length by half while providing extra challenges.

This looks so amazing, we are actually getting a new Classic Sonic game.

The best part is I can finally play as my boy Knuckles in a new game thank you Sega and thank you Christian.

I really am so excited for this.

Unfortunately that means I need an Xbone.

*record scratch*

What you say? Why not just get it on my PS4?

I kinda leaned leaned in hard on that "Xbox is the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast" thing and got all my Sega stuff on the Xbox lineage. It hasn't failed me yet, getting every one of the major (non-Nintendo) Sonics... plus the d-pad is very Genesis-like.

Nerd world problems.....

I wonder if there will also be an anthology collection for the anniversary? It would be nice to have a proper anthology available on the current consoles, one that was designed by the same people who are making this.

Agreed. I'd buy it immediately.

nah, i wish they got the guys from those sonic before/after the sequel fangames ;(

Thanks for showing me that there's some more great Sonic music out there! Now I wish they were involved too ;(.
Lol, Mania is still a dream come true though.

We need more hyper-polished games that build on existing ideas. Use that experience to perfect something rather than trying to make something different just for the sake of it.

Honestly, when I read the word "innovation" in regards to games, it's actually a huge turn-off. You need to reach perfection before moving onto innovation.

Heh, yeah, on the flip-side, I'm disappointed to see that. I'd be more OK with it if they turn that level on its head part way through - which wouldn't be innovation, by the way, just good design.

I agree that innovation must be secondary to refinement, but big leaps have to happen sometime. Still, with SEGA, it seems like they've screwed themselves too often by trying to "innovate" badly, so in their case I think it is really good they are seemingly prioritizing refinement. I have to admit I was somewhat hoping to see them get creative with Project 2017, but who knows how that would have turned out, so what we got seems to be a safer and better option.

I'm also a bit disappointed the first level is Green Hill, and that there are hints that more if the game could be remixes. While I'll probably like the remixes they do (the boss background, gameplay and music all impressed), I want as much to be new as possible. That's why I hope this just has their personal favorite levels remixed and 80% of the game is new.

Maybe make it tie into the narrative by instead of having Sonic just randomly be back in those levels and those times, instead have it appear that time has passes since he last visited. Like Angel Island Zone has been burned down but is regrowing and we see that in the stage remix.

(Oh, and about Sonic CD, was there tons of slow down on the GameCube and PC (pre-Taxman) versions? I don't remember that.)

Megamix just isn't that good to begin with. The level design is way too busy.

That's always a problem I have with attempts to make new levels in classic engines - people try to make something that is far more complex than the original game. I see it with Doom wads as well. Those levels which try to present designs more closely in line with the original games tend to be a lot more fun.

I've tried Megamix before and I think I have to agree, which is why I said before the Megamix guy may want to start fresh with this game. Take what he's learned and use it to build everything from the ground up, rather than trying to build note and more onto something with a rough foundation.

I noticed that too and posted about it on the last page. They look pretty different so I'm inclined to think the special stages are new too. That gets me excited.
Like most of Mania.

I've grown to *HATE* the word innovation. Screw innovation.

Truer words have never been spoken.

In the lower parts of Studiopolis you can see trains speed by in the background with interesting graffiti written on their sides:

All the references! Oh yeah, electric shields are back, as been in that TSSZ video! Can't wait, if this is at least 70% new it'll be incredible.

Are the before/after the sequel people involved as well? Where is everyone getting this information from?

That's been one of Sonic's major problems. It just keeps going onto new things. Agreed, that was my feeling as well. Glad Project 2017 seems to be going for refinement over innovation.

Yes. Knuckles is so under-appreciated. My biggest hope is Project 2017 is like this and has Tails and Knuckles playable as well. Don't make Knuckles stupid too SEGA, please.

An early part of the stream, with everyone as sprites had Amy run past and I thought that was hinting at Amy as being playable as well. I'd be into that, as long as she wasn't just "slower Sonic". No one beyond that though, keep it to the classic characters, at least for Mania and similar projects.

I really am so excited for this.

Unfortunately that means I need an Xbone.

I.. Think that's pretty foolish, to buy a console just for that. But do what you want.

(Oh, and about Sonic CD, was there tons of slow down on the GameCube and PC (pre-Taxman) versions? I don't remember that.)
There was not.

The PC version actually ran poorly on anything less than a decent Pentium back in the day but it's fine now (if you can deal with its Win95-ness). The ports to GC and the like were of the PC version. That said, the PC version has some minor presentation issues that I never liked.

Can't remember which video (GameSpot or TSSZ), but I think I saw the Steel Ring/Combi-Ring item set between two Ring Boxes, as well.

The one from Knuckles Chaotix that would drop your rings as a singular ring that you could grab back all at once:

Like most of Mania.

I'd be hyped for entirely new special zones. 3's are my favourite, but I'm not sure my heart could take them any more when you've collected most of the orbs and they get super fast lol.

So Sonic Team aren't making any Sonic game for the anniversary? Disappointing.

?

They're doing the 3D one.

This one looks far better though

I really am so excited for this.

It's coming to PC though. Maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't look like you'll need too powerful a computer to run this.

But how do you reconcile Shenmue 3 is PS4/PC? only so far

Shenmue was THE game meant to highlight the epitome of Dreamcast.

I'm holding out hope they throw in some of the Sonic 2 lost levels.

I know Genocide City Zone as a snowballs chance in hell of making it, but Dust Hill Zone and Wood Zone plz.

I.. Think that's pretty foolish, to buy a console just for that. But do what you want.

Oh I'm not buying an Xbone for one game. I'm also buying it for Sonic Generations 2.

Did you think I was saying it was rational? I'm crazy! And really, it's more that I buy all consoles anyway.
