Dark Souls 3 releasing tomorrow in Japan is the worst

How do I buy from the Japanese store? Do it from the web store and not the console store?

whichever way you prefer. there is really no downside to this you either get the game on wednesday in english or you wait with the others. alternatively you play it in japanese till its out lol

i bought a few yen cards from the japanese microsoftstore (you get the codes instantly) and loaded them on a dummy account to prevent them from banning my main account

If this ends up being a thing, it will be the first time people have been jealous of Xbox Souls players.

PLEASE BE TRUE

i already bought the game from the japanese store, switched to the us store and it downloaded dark souls 3 18gigs of data. i checked if its the same by pinning the us version and switching to japanese again to see if it takes me to the store page and it did

its the same alright and all signs point to an early unlock wed

This is weird. There is no preload for the US Store yet.

My copy is downloading right now. First time I've imported a game in a long time. I imported the first dark souls but it was the Asian version and was in English. This will be the first fully Japanese game I've played since symphony of the night. The google translate app is pretty nice for this.

Where did you find them on Microsoft Store? I tried looking through the Japanese site for them but was unable to find them so I just bought them off Amazon.

It was a pain trying to redeem the codes and purchase the game though. I had to change the locale of my Xbox to Japan to redeem the 2 gift cards (5000yen + 2500yen) then when trying to buy the game it gave me a popup wanting me to enter an address I assume. I wasn't able to figure it out, so I ended up having to buy it through Xbox.com's Japanese site, which also required me to enter a Japanese address just to use the gift cards I had already purchased. Once I got it all bought and paid for I started the download for the Japanese version on my Xbox, but after reading a bit here and on reddit decided to cancel the download and try my luck with the English version. Worst case is I'll have to delete this one and redownload the Japanese one.

It worked for DB Xenoverse.. bought from the HK store like 3 weeks early. Completed the download from HK, ran the game once, deleted it , switched stores, downloaded the game again and it downloaded the US version

The image of people playing this and taking out their phone to use the Google translate app every so often and taking photos of their screen is hilarious.

RIP having patience.

If this works I'm cancelling all my plans this week holy shit.

i thought so too but it definitely worked with other titles ... allthough only a few days early at most, not weeks. right now the store works like this : you buy the game from whatever store you want and you get the license to download it from whatever store you want. unlock time is tied to the store you bought it from so technically you can buy it from the japanese store, cancel the download and finally switch to the us store to download the us preload which should unlock on the japanese date

this worked 100% in the past with every game released so far

Waiting for the JP release day to see if this works in this particular case...if so, about to blow, seriously.

Shit wait, we're talkung Xbox here?

yea you need a japanese adress

i used the us embassy in tokyo lol

I will eat a tree if that works. There's no way different publishers would share the same store file IDs and references.

well in this case they are

I'm pretty confident you're still going to end up with the Japanese version.

If you don't, Sony or From will have trouble with Namco.

EDIT: Also, this thread, and likely other places, is probably a good way for them to change it in time.

I remember when Demon's Souls was out in Japan. The early pics were something else. Nothing did the whole 3 person action adventure theme quite like this. It was like what you thought released on the PS2, but it wouldn't live up to your expectations. The Japanese version just like this, everything's in English besides the text. I had both the Japanese and the Chinese-Korean version. I didn't mind it. If you know what you're doing, the language barrier (if you can't read Japanese) isn't that hard to get around. You basically need to know stats and know where you're going to next.

I switched over to my main account and it's downloading from there.

they could, but im leaning towards they wont

they didnt before so why would they now ? as others have pointed out it worked the same way with dragonball and that was 3 weeks early.

also thats a pretty big change if they do that with the store.... either way i dont care. im gonna play it wed dont care about the language

I hope it works so From realize they fucked up and release the game earlier in the West.
A man can dream.

Yeah between the wiki and the translate app it shouldn't be too bad. There are tons of pictures of the menus in english already on the wiki. The souls games don't have too much text and I'm going to avoid magic on this playthrough.

So could I buy the game on my Xbox One by changing the location of my account and then change my settings back and download it via the NA store? Am I understanding this correctly? Souls hype may force my hand here, lol. However, I may just grab on the PS4 instead due to controller preference if I'm actually going to bite.

People are so impatient, sheeesssshhh. Maybe they have some translation issues they need to iron out or something. Can't they really find anything to occupy the 3 weeks time before the west release? There's probably millions of games outside, people, maybe you can use them to fill the time in-between?

I am confused about the wings but I am also not going to complain about such a sight

Yeah I thought the days of mainstream games releasing in Japan first were over. In fact NA is getting more content first since it's the bigger market (PS4 itself launched first in NA).

Not a fan of people playing this, discovering secrets, then littering the internet with them 3 weeks before I get to play it.

That's pretty generally just Square Enix isn't it
Lots of games still take a year

I think I'm more upset Futrepress isn't doing the guide than JPN getting the game early. The Prima guide is going to look so out of place from my other 3.

Hooo boy. Think I'm gonna wait. 10$ to play the game 3 weeks early, but not understand any of the interface or have the season pass? Mmm... No thanks.

google translate from yer phone bruh

works pretty nice. already tested it on some things

This thread is sad. I understand excitement but some of you are just too much. I'm excited for the game as well but three weeks is nothing.

Damn this thread is gonna make me get the JPN version.. Must resist urge. I remember I spent $20 just for a network test code.

Yeah, but it's so much more expensive for a dampened experience. :c

damm u nippon, gettin ur shit erly

you're wrong

the electricity in the air from being among hte very first wave of people to take on the game's mysteries is irreplaceable. Having the menus and item descriptions in english would certainly be nice, but it's a small price to pay to take part in a moment in time that'll never come again, and those challenges can be overcome through a bit of diligence anyway (phone translations + online resources + neogaf I'm sure)

read what I said just now and do it. live your life

Hey, if you want to translate literally everything in the game, have fun. But you can take part in a moment in time that literally comes again three weeks later by not spoiling the game for yourself online. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What needs translated exactly?

NPCs can be understood. The voiceover is in English.

So... You need help figuring out what certain items are/do, and if you wish to decipher the lore (which isn't necessarily essential) from item descriptions.

It's not a text heavy game. That's not what Souls is.

In a way, it adds to the experience. Miyazaki's style of storytelling is derived from reading things in a language he didn't fully understand as a child. This is the authentic way to play... From a certain point of view.

You do you, man. I like being able to understand the lore, but that's just me.

Have fun though, honestly, I wish I could play tomorrow too. But the economy in Canada is shit, and I'm cool with waiting.

I just don't understand why it matters if you're first. You can get the same untainted experience in 3 weeks. Just don't look up anything. You can discuss the experience with all of the people that'll be freshly experiencing the game then as well.

Just seems like a roundabout way of being impatient. You just justify it with a relatively flimsy line of reasoning.

Wait... we are getting English Streams this Wednesday? WTF... just release the game early then. Why the hell would you make people wait even longer?!

Dude just go on a media blackout. Unsubscribe to the Dark Souls youtubers if you must.

And if you really really want to be the first to play then you can always import it.

It has been impressive watching DS3 used as a marketing tool for consoles.

  • MS announces free Dark Souls 1 BC if you buy DS3 on XB1. The only way to play Dark Souls 1 on current gen consoles right now.
  • Sony finds a release date for Salt & Sanctuary just when everyone is hungering for new Dark Souls, with exclusivity lasting past DS3's release date.
I wonder if MS will lean into this account system loophole that might let people play the localized version a few weeks early: "oops, nothing we can do to fix that. And no way to find offending accounts. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
