Red Dead Reremption is now backwards compatible on Xbox One

From all the comotion I hear over this game it better be real fucking good.

Trust us, it is. What we're concerned about is if it runs very well on Xbox One.

If it doesn't, then we need to yell out to Rockstar to either give us a remaster of this game on PS4 & Xbox One, or give us a sequel at the very least.

One of my favorite games of all time. If you haven't made a point to play it yet, it might now be for you, though. I mean, do you like westerns or Rockstar?

Never played this game but have heard great things about it, will probably pick up a used copy at gamestop.

Red Dead Redemption is, quantifiably and measurably on scales other than the passionate opinions of both its fans and critics, one of the greatest pieces of interactive media ever developed.

I say this as a fan of video games with valuable narratives with equally meaningful gameplay and as a longtime, lifelong fan of the western genre in general.

RDR is not flawless. But it is an incredible accomplishment. It is legitimizing force for whether AAA games can be considered a valuable medium for expression and storytelling. It is a textbook example of making your gameplay intrinsically meaningful to the thematic picture you are creating and it's an incomparable experience.

I have never played anything else like RDR. RDR is a canonized classic in the video game pantheon. RDR is a triumph of our entire medium. RDR is one of the best westerns ever told and one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had with a game.

Just play it. Maybe you won't like it. I'm sorry if you don't.

But maybe you'll see why people who love this game are as enamored as they are. Because RDR is a revelation. It is like BioShock, Portal, Mass Effect, Half Life, and all the other games that redefined what our medium has become.

It is a triumph. It is so high on a pedestal for a reason. It is a platinum standard for what games can be.

I hate Rockstar games, by the way. At least the ones I've played, I might like Bully or The Warriors if I tried them. I definitely don't enjoy GTA even a little bit. But I will never not treasure Red Dead Redemption. A game like that only comes a long once in a very, very long time.

I mean I appreciate what they do but I'm not a super fan. I was dedicated PC last gen so I'm still catching up on a few things and RDR seems like one I should at least try as a fan of games.

Well it's good sign to see that someone who isn't obsessed with Rockstar feels that way about the game. I'm gonna do it.

I agree. Give it a shot. But I have a hunch it won't be your cup of tea. The worst I can be is wrong. Enjoy (hopefully)!

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Ugh. Saw this thread at ten pages and went right to finding my old 360 copy. Took me awhile to find, but I got it! Put it in my Xbone and.....

What?!

Then I read the thread.

How long does it usually take until physical copies work

Thus whole thread is warrior shit and thats what you pick up on?

anyway, how long before discs are usually made to work after the GoD release? Really wanna play TTT2 without hooking up the ps3, but I only have the Disc on 360.
this is still in the testing phase, no telling when this goes live.

edit: edited out warrior shit, lets not do this.

Hate? Why?

I just don't enjoy them at all. I don't find them satisfying or rewarding to play. They're just not why I play video games.

But I haven't played Bully - I should say. I think I might actually love Bully. And I have Warriors queued up for sometime in the future.

I guess it's more correct to say I hate Grand Theft Auto. So thank you for challenging me on that.

I just thought "hate" was a little strong. But sounds like you don't really hate them; you're just not a fan of GTA.

Anyway, give Bully a go. It's wonderful.

Is there no where to buy the digital version cheaper than $29.99?

I'm nowhere near obsessed with Rockstar games, but this game was a masterpiece. I enjoyed this game more than any GTA, easily. The story and characters are sooooo good. I hope they get BC right with this game because I'm double dipping.

This should be available for physical copies soonish right?

I've been wanting to play it for a while now. I didn't get very far on the 360 ages ago and been really feeling like playing it properly but my 360 is a pain to get up and running now plus I'd rather use the Xbone pad than my old 360 one.

I played the SP for roughly two hours and it was pretty smooth. Looked a lot crisper too.

This might've been beaten down to death already, but does the DLC Undead Nightmare work with XBox One, too?

Also, for any doubters, I hate westerns. I never liked them. I never liked any media with them. I love this game. I only played it a few weeks ago and I can't believe I didn't give this game a chance years ago. Fantastic game, indeed. Get it.

Can be a little slow at the start when they are setting up the storyline/characters/tutorials etc.. but once you get out in the open on your horse, it is phenomenal.

Just from reading this thread, there are some issues with certain DLC outfits that they'll need to iron out before publicly announcing it, but it being playable by the public (albeit via weird digital-only loophole) hopefully indicates that it's at a fairly late stage in whatever their testing process is, and it won't be too long before it's official.

Edit: Also, apparently Alan Wake's American Nightmare is available via the same loophole.

niiiice, I bought this game on the xbox store last fall when it was on sale even though I don't even own a 360 anymore, hoping it'll get BC patch. This, Ni No Kuni, and Infamous 1-2 are the only games from 360/ps3 era that I haven't played that I have wanted to.

I've never been able to find the desire to finish any GTA games but I had no trouble finishing this game and doing a shitload of side missions.

I think it was the setting that did the trick, whistling for my horse and riding round the country was much more appealing than being a gangster.

Maybe? I've bought all the DLC before in the past, and upon starting the game, the option for Undead Nightmare is definitely there.

But unlike other Xbox 360 backwards compatible games, there doesn't seem to be any option just yet to download the DLC. It's possible, like the DLC outfits, that selecting it would cause the game to crash.

I'll try it and see.

Edit: Nope. Asks you to go to the Xbox Store, which pops up with the little 360 mini interface. No way to download it just yet.
