Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

I've been saying this to my friends for months ever since the massive clearance sales started. I think they're going to remove games from stores entirely and leave them at online only. Gives them more room for those horrible Apple/Microsoft stations that are always annoying to walk past.

I hope not. I don't like online shopping or digital games as much as physical.

I don't think Best Buy will get out of games, but I can see them stocking mostly brand new games in store and having a pretty shallow collection.

I think they're already kind of there already.

To me, they're maybe the worst place to shop for games in person (though some stores are better than others). Even though they're not super busy, the game sections are frequently in disarray and poorly kept up.

Got my two $50 PSN codes from Staples in the mail today. Ready for Escha & Logy+ tomorrow, hopefully not with inflated Canadian pricing.

lol i love extreme lowballers on eBay/Kijiji

some dude just e-mailed me asking if I could sell my BNIB Majora's Mask N3DSXL for 100$ CAD (shipping included)

This is why I don't do Best Offer (on Ebay, I mean). Though I believe there's an option to auto-reject if it's below a certain amount you set?

I get lowballers a lot. I hate it.

They'll offer you much less than you're asking, or will say they'll trade you 2 of a list of old games like NHL 07, DJ Hero, etc. Or they'll trade you some gun they have.

Staples put my order for the 2x 50 PSN cards on hold because the coupon wasn't supposed to be used towards gift cards. Had to contact customer service to get an exception. RFD full of people hoarding codes and my single order gets intercepted, go figure.

...did Amazon.ca just ship Paper Jam on time to be delivered in time for release day?

Or has my water been laced with something.

Damn, Monday is pretty early. Unless you live all the way up in Iqaluit or something.

I just want the game to ship so I can see the price they charged. Then I will (hopefully) know the discount that each game will be getting.

My PSN cards were supposed to be delivered today, but no one at my house answered the door, so UPS left a note. Hopefully they come at a similar time tomorrow.

Mine says "estimate: Jan 29th to Feb 5th", so it looks like they are intentionally holding it back because I don't have prime. Either that or waiting to ship with Mighty No. 9 :lol

I can't remember the last time I bought a game in store thanks for the E3 promotions or waiting for sales online. It did surprise me how small the game section is in the redesigned Best Buy's, however for a long time at Futureshop (before it closed) and the Best Buy's in my area had pretty shitty stock in the gaming department.

I've just realized that our dollar is on par with the australian dollar.

Time to plan a vacation to down undaaa' ?

That's interesting, I remember their dollar was worth more than ours when we were at par with the USD.

I guess the Australian economy has been struggling worse than Canada's?

What's the deal at Cineplex for Tuesdays? Half-price tickets? So, the tickets are about $5 each?

I'm tempted to go tonight because of the 500 points for any movie thing, but don't really feel like going out. Trying to decide if it's a great deal, or just the points equivalent of a Tuesday.

Yeah it's more moddable as it can easily open up via a latch (as opposed to removing a screw at the bottom) and comes with a plexi-glass top tha tthe TES+ doesn't, so you can easily change artwork.

Also size as Lostconfused mentioned.

Forgive me I don't know much about arcade sticks, (but am also in the same position, with both the TES, and TE2 ordered while I make a decision) but I was wondering, what type of mods do people do to their sticks? Art swap? What else?

I'm considering keeping both so I can play 2 players, but now I wish I order 2 of each so I could have matching ones.

I ordered (digital $50 psn) last night and got the code this morning

The most common thing a lot of people change the sticks and buttons. Often people prefer to install actual arcade parts like Sanwa and Seimitsu parts, of course that's a moot point here as these are actual Sanwa parts used in the Madcatz sticks. That of course still leaves the option of replacing the buttons for colour reasons.

IE: This is my current Qanba Q4RAF
FS_new.jpg
It came with Sanwa buttons already, but I replaced them with transparent ones, and cut the artwork so it would flow with the whole stick. Also changed the ball top to a blue bubble ball top because I already had one on hand, and it looks really good with the art.

Of course mods can go much deeper, such as changing the PCB internals for some sticks (often when people want to make sticks work for multiple systems)

I also have the TES+ and TE2+ both pre-ordered and have been deciding on which to keep.
Of course I may go with neither as a new PCB that features full PS4 compatibility with no 8-minute timeout is finally coming, and I could always mod that into my Qanba

Are you sure about that ? I feel like their dollar has always been " weak ".

7$ (+10% off with Scene) tickets on Tuesday. You get a regular ticket for 1000 points so 500 points = 12.99/2 = 6.50$.

You're looking at pretty much the same deal.

Yeah, I asked them and they told me the same. Thanks

The local theatre is $9.99 per ticket, so I think she said it'd be about $5.39, which is cheap.

I didn't feel like getting dressed and going out tonight, plus none of the films really sold me.

Same. I wanted to watch The Revenant but felt too tired so I'm probably going tomorrow.

But tonight is Monday. Tuesday discount tickets would be tomorrow would they not?

Edit: Never mind, I'm an idiot. I didn't read the entire post.

You can use the 500 points for even the expensive Imax or dbox tickets, making this a ridiculously good deal for the Monday. My parents used 1000 points for two tickets which would have come to $50

Our dollar was better since halfway through of 2014. It was even as high as 0.91 CAD one time.

Yeah, it was a great deal for those types of tickets. Can't disagree there.

I don't know if they have Dbox here, though, and the only local theatre with AVX just had Star Wars playing in it. No IMAX nearby either.

So, my options were kind of limited.
