Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

Any Splatoon deals? My best lead is trying to find a Shoppers that still carries video games in Toronto. As I have a 18500 pts coupon if you spend $75.

Wii U has become a niche product and I think Nintendo is going to be quite satisfied in never cutting any of their prices, instead letting enthusiasts pay full price before letting games go out of print.

Unfortunately I don't expect any price drop for Splatoon or any other first party Wii U games.

Well, since the selection on Indigo is terrible, and I have to spend this money. It's between Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Triple Deluxe and Yoshi's New Island.

Anyone got a screenshot of a low price they got for twilight princess off amazon? I tried to get best buy to price match it before but since the item was out of stock they didn't, its back in stock now.

Anyone know where I can find Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy physical for under $50 CDN? Of all the games that had to become rare, I did not see this coming.

OOS here too. If you live in Toronto or Mississauga, call to see if they have anymore in store: https://www.videogamesplus.ca/product_info.php?products_id=20927

I don't know if they offer a ship from store service. Check your local game shops, if you have any. Also check the EBgames page to see who might have it in store.

I thought I remembered Sony revealing a 4K Blu Ray player not too long ago but can't find anything about it. Am I crazy?

They had one on display at the CES, not the only ones, I think they will come to market in by the end of this year.

Can confirm that triple deluxe is a great Kirby game. I did not like Canvas curse on the Wii U because you had to play fully using only the gamepad lower resolution screen, the game looks nice, I wish I could play looking at the TV!

Any site have a good comparison of those Madcatz arcade sticks?

I need to figure out which order I should keep.

I really want to keep the most expensive one just because I got such a great deal on it through Amazon but I ordered all of them just in case.

It's just the physical shell that's different.

You can look up the reviews for Tournament Edition 2 (TE2) because the form factor is the same for the largest/most expensive one.

Try checking The Source as well. I bought Azran Legacy from there a few months back and it was still old MSRP. I know the one near me has a game but I haven't bothered to check whether it's Azran or Miracle Mask. If you can't find one near you I'd be happy to swing by an check it on my way back from work. If it is Azran, I can pick it up and mail it to you at cost. Let me know.

Hmm, no luck. Seems to be pretty much sold out everywhere in Toronto, save some distant locations.

Wow! That's a very generous offer. I'm gonna hit up some game stores today and see if I can find it. But if not, I'd definitely be interested in taking you up on your kind offer.

So the only advantage to the TE2 plus is that it's modable?

Yeah it's more moddable as it can easily open up via a latch (as opposed to removing a screw at the bottom) and comes with a plexi-glass top tha tthe TES+ doesn't, so you can easily change artwork.

Also size as Lostconfused mentioned.

Anyway to get BB to apply the 30% off pre-order discount to new price? My 30% was applied when it was $99, but I'd obviously like it to be updated with the correct price if possible... or maybe I'll just cancel.

I mean, there's no automated way. You'll have to contact them and ask.

Knacklover's template:

I am contacting you about order #123456789 and item Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U). The item has a cyber monday promotion applied (-30% off) the original price 99.99$. However, the item is now correctly priced at 79.99$, would you be able to adjust my order such that the promotion is applied to the correct price (79.99 - 30%)?

Thanks.

I figured as much. Unless the game is a total critical disaster (Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival) the price will remain MSRP.

I managed to track down a copy at Shoppers today and use the optimum coupon I had. I figured 20 bucks of points in exchange is a good deal.

So for people looking for videogames at Shoppers you can locate stores that carry games if you filter for a photo department on the store locator page. Generally they go hand in hand. I'd also follow up and call them to make sure they have stock.

Knacklover's template:

I assumed they wouldn't automatically apply it (like Amazon does), but has anyone had success doing so or do they just say you are out of luck?

I tried sending them a message with that template just for shits, and got a no dice reply. Since the price I'm getting it for ($69) is cheaper than the selling price, they wouldn't do it. I feel like we've had this problem before with them too with E3 games and price drops (wasn't Kirby for Wii U a big one?).

Either way, I won't lose sleep over it. Try yourself though, your mileage may vary.

I figured that would be the case, but I'll give it a shot anyways. I have no issues cancelling if I need to.

Try sending again a message, may be the next rep will do it. I just sent what Reddish quoted above was emailed 2 hours later saying a 40$ credit (I ordered 2 Zelda) will be applied 3-5 days after I am charged.

rule of thumb for Best Buy is they won't make these kind of adjustments unfortunately

it's always worth a try, on rare occasions you will get lucky, but probably shouldn't expect it

Are Best Buy getting out of the gaming business or something?

I was in their downtown Vancouver shop at lunchtime and the selection is sparse and the video games area has noticeably been downsized

Apparently the price adjustment/refund was a mistake LOL.

And some people were taken in by this, I also believed that they will adjust it.

Good thing I ordered from both site LOL.

Wouldn't surprise me. That's my go-to store, but I rarely ever get games form there, and if I do, I just go online and do in-store pickup. 95% of my gaming purchases are online, whether that means digital games, or ordering from an online retailer.

I've been saying this to my friends for months ever since the massive clearance sales started. I think they're going to remove games from stores entirely and leave them at online only. Gives them more room for those horrible Apple/Microsoft stations that are always annoying to walk past.

It's not hard to see why their games division is doing so poorly. Games are right there with movies as pretty much the only products they sell that don't benefit from getting in person. Any piece of large electronics you could argue that you'd like to see first hand, but games and movies don't matter either way.

That, compounded with the fact that new games have minuscule margins and they were never really able to break into the used market, and you can see why they might be phasing it out.

But in reality, Best Buy in general is on very, very thin ice.
