Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

Fuuuuuck there is no way I can afford the Oculus at 900 in the Spring. I guess I'll wait for it to drop, or see how much the Vive and Morpheus will be.

At $900 I might as well just buy a new super GPU because it'll serve me better

I like gaming a lot but yeah as I said in the other thread, I can wait and see how things go. Updates/upgrades and price drops etc.

how bout that Canadian Rift price

Why is the Rift so expensive.. is the Gear VR comparable to the Rift at all? Or is it more like a fancy cardboard? I was looking at it yesterday when i went into Bell, they had it in a case so i couldn't try it.

Gear VR requires a Samsung phone to act as both the input device and the display. Besides some external controls, it's mostly a shell to put your phone in. So yeah, fancy Cardboard.

Advice: I am budgeting for a wedding and I was thinking of selling my copy of Demon's Crest. I've seen them on eBay for > $100 but I'm reluctant to sell it there as I've never sold stuff there before and therefore have no feedback. Plus, scams. With Kijiji, I'm limited to those in my general area and therefore probably won't get top dollar for it. Is there any other good ways people can suggest?

I should probably fire it up and see if the battery pack is still functioning. It was a year back when I played it for a bit.

Ask for advice on the snes collectors thread: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=511429&page=100000

The VC release kind of hurt cart values a bit.

Most of us buy snes/sfc stuff directly from eBay or other people we trust.

If you want to sell it reasonably fast for cash then eBay really is the only way to get market price for it. You should require for the item to be sent with tracking but there is always the risk of scams anyway I guess. You could also write in the auction that you will cancel the winning if the seller has less than X feedback rating and 100% positive.

There are other sites and forums for collectors but as a new member you always have to ship the copy before you get paid and I don't know any that are focused on selling but rather trading. Getting cash might be hard there too.

If you're in Montreal then I can give you a hundred Canadian in cash for it if it's a cart in good condition. I've been wanting it for a while but buying from the US isn't something I'd want to do until the dollar recovers.

Yeah, the Oculus is nuts, especially for something with an unproven software library. I can't tell people how to spend money, but guys; this thing isn't going to sell out, it simply won't be that big. At least give it a month or two to make sure it works well, runs well, and has a chance of success to ensure a good library.

I'm pissed at myself, I intended to grab that PS4 350 dollar bundle deal during boxing week, didn't pay attention to the last day of it. Any idea when the next significant sale of it should be? Any particular web/real stores to watch that regularly have similar deals?

I now have two copies of Trails of Cold Steel. I wonder if I should wait until I see the $15 credit applied to the second order (and the re-charge) before I bring back anything?

With the dollar's current trajectory I think you're out of luck for a long long time

Regarding Oculus...

I can't imagine how exhausting a person would get with that (or any head mounted VR) on my head for any lengthy duration of time.

Prediction: VR headsets around the world will be collecting dust within a month of people getting them. Or they'll bring it out when someone new to the tech comes around.

Pass.

Don't post that in an Occulus thread as I think we have a new faction of warrior.

It is super cool, and the best thing about it is seeing someone else use it for the first time; but right now, it is still a novelty. Buy in for someone without an up-to-date gaming PC would be $2k-$3k. That is alot for something that will be out of date in 18 months and has no compelling software.

Check for Facebook groups in your area specifically for collectors. I know in Winnipeg there is a couple so hopefully you are somewhere that isn't in the middle of nowhere and there is more.

With eBay, you have to remember there are fees for selling. I haven't sold sure but just say that after PayPal and eBay take their hit its around 12%. So for a $100 game, you are only going to see about $88.

Now from the buyers perspective, they are going to buy the $100 game and then it will be $20 after shipping and insurance. So somewhere in $90-$120 is a place where both people are going to be happy!

The Oculus is crazy. I could probably blow this year's personal spending amount from work on it, but that might be a hard sell if someone looks closely (I can claim monitors, and high end video cards are not an issue either as they're sort off office-related equipment).

Phones are tough too as they cost more than they used to. I guess my Nexus 5 is still holding on pretty well.

Huge thanks to both of you (EDIT - and to Mike). Maybe I'll start selling some other games I don't want on eBay just to get some status/practice before trying to unload the big one.

And sorry, I'm in London ON.

Okay, this Amazon order update shit is getting ridiculous.

I have two e-mails for Star Fox this morning (barely over an hour apart) and one for Final Fantasy XV. They're coming more than daily now!

Cable has nothing to do DSL.

DSL/FTTN = phone line (eg Bell owned lines)

Cable = coax (Rogers or cogeco)

I always thought most if not all homes have a phone line wire? Even old ones.

I know. It's just that they said that both weren't available here.

I have DSL through another company.

PM me with your snes games list. I'm always interested :) and in Toronto with a good trading rep.

It would also be super not worth it since it seems like all of the hardware designers seem to be shooting for the same mark and you just need to get the ones that are best for you.

ToCS GET!

finally wow. so glad I waited long enough not to get stuck with an extra copy xD

Aha yeah! Though now I'm wonder if anyone would want the second copy... I mean, it's 30%-ish percent off since they're supposed to give me $15 credit for the second copy....

Bestbuy's not gonna cancel that just because the first one made it in anyway, are they?

got two, one for Xenoblade Chronicles X and another for rating a previous Amazon order.

Why are we getting so many emails from them?

Anyone getting all the VR stuff is going to spend like 3 grand on goggles alone. lol

Yeah, VR is still very much in a state of infancy. Technology's going to advance fast and price is going to go down significantly as the manufacturing process streamlines and there's more competition. Just doesn't seem worth buying into it this early.
