Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

I know. he made a thread about it and everything. we assured him nothing's happened to it lol

If I remember correctly he also made a thread about a elite controller that he got for free and how he was pissed about having to pay to send it too Microsoft when he thought something was wrong with it. Which yeah is pretty weak, but part of his reasoning was because he was broke......but he can afford to buy a elite controller....

Every time I see you post in this thread I wonder if you act stupid on purpose or just are this stupid.

Sorry man, but we'll agree to disagree. You'll obviously defend the high prices and I won't. Guess not all of us are lucky to shop down south. If I could help Canuck gamers on good US sales I would. I honestly didn't expect games to cost $79.99 this side of the border, but I guess we're at the mercy of our weak economy and dollar.

Store credit I received.

Not everyone wants to wait 3 years for clearances or whatever. I'd rather save 30 - 33% off new release games and play them Day 1 when my friends are. $40 USD + tax (or less) for every new title is pretty solid. Every time you come in here it's to say how much better deals in the US are compared to here. I've never seen you contribute anything nor have I seen much out of these "amazing US deals" compared to some of the pretty awesome sales I've seen the past few months especially. This holiday season the only thing I think I saw south of the border that was significantly better was Until Dawn.
Slightly off-topic, but is here any advantage to booking a flight with a travel agent vs. doing it online myself?
Not outside of packages I think. I did work with a travel agent when I backpacked Europe because the train stuff was hard to figure out. Travel Cuts since they were for students (I was just finished school) and not on comission. Super helpful for Europe. Weren't as helpful for when I did Japan though. Depends on the person and where they have experience.

Sorry but like I said agree to disagree, I constantly compare US vs CDN prices even on Boxing Day and BF and from what I've seen, literally ealking arounf and browsing online, deals are miles better down aouth, I'm sure if you made a spreasheet, you'll see the facts. I know you don't want to admit it and I don't wish to put down this thread further with it, but will say thisz that you're doing a great job making Canucks aware of sales better than the CAG thread. Regarding cheap games, thats you on wanting new games Day 1 and me willing to wait a year or months later to get it on sale. I don't buy just because all my friends have it, plus I have a backlog that helps out in the waiting game for good deals. I have my own opinions and you as well. I promise not to derail your thread as I think its great and helpful to Canucks that don't have GCU or amazon.com. Guess I'm still shell shocked how game prices have skyrocketed here. On the other hand Blu-ray movies are considerably cheaper in Canada than USA.

Is it safe to assume that the discounted downloadable path for FE fates will be $24.99 pre tax each? Since the game is $50 on retail

Also regarding our dollar, $80 is actually less than $58 in USD, retailers and consumers are both shafted in this process and there is nothing much we can do as long as our dollar stay the way it is.

That unless than Canadian dollar recovers but the price still stays $80, though recent trend is that we are going to dance around at $1 USD=$1.4 CAD for a long time

Does anyone know if there are cheaper (<$20) deals on Minecraft for PS4 right now? Best Buy is offering 2 for 40 on select games, including Minecraft. Want to pick it up for my nephews.

I believe the Nintendo eshop charges tax on everything.

probably, but DLC pricing can be really inconsistent

it might end up being something like $27.43 or whatever

Oh that's true, eck

Well the 3rd path isn't available for purchase right away, so I'll just get a $50 card anyways

Edit: is it because the eshop uses auto currency conversion or something? Since you reminded me I do recall seeing some really funky prices on the eshop

Called Best Buy; they're going to mark Trails of Cold Steel as a lost package and put in an inquiry with Canada Post - and give me a refund. Such a better response than what I got through their support form.

I have a question for people who got the Rewards Zone email this morning. Did you get a non gamers club branded one as well?

I used to get two of every email(one GC, one not) and I didn't this time. Did anyone else only get the one when they used to get both?

The Source had it for 10 dollars before the holidays on clearance. Not sure if that's still the case.

So I've decided that I'm going to wait on SF5, I'm a bigger KI fan anyways.

So I have the TE2 stick on Amazon on PO for 204 CAD thanks to the pricing error. You think I should get it anyways and resell it? Don't know how sought after the TE sticks are now.

People are still looking for fight sticks to play SFV. Just sell yours slightly cheaper than retail and someone will bite. You'll be making a profit if all goes well.

How/where would one sell it though? I have both sticks ordered as well but I'm in the same boat and going to pass on them for now. Kijjij? GAF? There's eBay but shipping something is such a pain.

Sooo, the JPY is 85 cents right now? Holy f***. I should had paid my pre-order when I order it. Damn.

No. NO. FUCK. God damn it. This one hits me in the wallet. Suddenly Project Diva X is like $10 more expensive. Gonna cancel some Amazon pre-orders so I can get Valkyria Chronicles on PS4

I'm posting a shipping question here since it's also a defacto shipping thread.

Anyone shop with Amazon.ca recently and get their package delivered by Fed Ex? I'm in the GTA and as long as I've shopped with Amazon.ca they've used Purolator/Canada Post. I got a door tag on New Years Eve from Fed Ex and the package has to have someone receive it. Problem is that I'm at work during delivery hours. I requested a pick up and they said the package is waiting for me at Passmore Ave in Scarborough which is very far from home. I don't drive so bussing it is going to be a hassle. I might have to change my shopping habits away from Amazon.ca if they're going to use Fed Ex in 2016.

1. You can call Fedex and have them move it somewhere closer.
2. Amazon uses other shipment services during the holiday season because the services get so much work that it actually makes financial sense for them to switch if load is too heavy on one service or another. For example, I received a large package after Boxing Day that was actually shipped Purolator and then transfered to CP for final delivery.

Was it through Amazon.ca themselves or a third party seller? Because the only time I've seen FedEx is if it was a third party seller.

I was thinking Kijiji or Craigs List, if you can deal with the headache window shoppers. I think your local game shops could be a good alternative too. I imagine the transaction would be quick and painless. The only thing I'd be worried about is who would give me the better deal for them.

Thanks for the replies.

The order was Amazon.ca directly. It was for 2 Blu rays during Boxing Week and an Amazon basics cable.

Thanks Firestorm. Japan and Europe are what I wanted to discuss about, actually. I just wanted to get a quote for a package or something. I know there are places that offer free quotes or consultation at least.

Amazon very rarely seems to use couriers. My Rock Band 4 cymbals that were left out in a snowstorm/freezing rain were delivered by UPS, but the replacements were delivered by Canada Post (and left on my step since it wasn't storming).

Is anyone else getting crazy nonsensical spam from Amazon like I am for the past week? Check out the two I got today:

Hello from Amazon.ca.

We wanted to let you know there's a delay with one or more items in the order you placed on June 15, 2015 (Order# 701.

"Star Fox Zero - Wii U"
Estimated ship date: December 29, 2015

Apparently after drones, they're planning delivery by time machine (and they'll still be late!)

Now that that the loonie is in the dump, does it mean there are "arbitrage" opportunities for US gamers by importing games cheaper from the Canadian market ?

Microsoft - Xbox One 500GB Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle - Black
On Best Buy US: $350 USD
On Best Buy Canada: $400 CAD = $286 USD !

After tax and shipping it's probably not a deal anymore.

Here are some recent gaming deals in Canada:
-Star Wars Battlefront $40-50
-Black Ops 3 $40
-Witcher 3, Arkham Knight $30
-PS4 and XB1 bundles for ~$350
-Majora's Mask, Monster Hunter 4 $30
-Bayonetta 2 $32.50
-Various clearance deals at The Source, Best Buy, and EB Games with prices <$5

Plus we still have E3 30% off pre-orders. I haven't seen many OMGWTFBBQ deals that make me go "if only I lived in the US".

Yeah, it would be nice if Amazon Prime was better and we had Best Buy's GCU where every new release is $48, but the exchange rate sucks and retail competition has died (RIP Target and Future Shop), so we can only expect so much.
