Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

I've waited forever for a Wii U Pro Controller sale. And now that it's happened I feel like $40 is too much after getting a DS4 and an Xbone controller for sub $30. I think I'll wait some more.

Amazon matched the buy 2 get 1 free blu-ray tv series deal at some point. Most of the stuff for the X-files was out of stock but still let you order so hopefully they ship everything. I think they will.

It's about $100 for the entire 9 seasons of the X-Files on Blu-ray.

Crazy.
Hrm, I guess it's over?

It's the first Nintendo console since virtual boy to genuinely flop, with little consumer interest, and with very little prospect of future demand. Clear outs must be coming soon as NX approaches. This is going to be dreamcast 2.0...one day we'll wake up to a 50% price drop on all things U and never hear about it again (outside of GAF)

I know this is the Canadian Deals Thread, but since everybody here seems to have a fascination for shipping stories and issues, here's the situation: I ordered some books on Amazon. As I am a member of Prime, I usually am able to recieve my items pretty quickly.

Now, I want to recieve my items before January if possible. The standard shipping gives me an estimate date between Dec. 31st and Jan 4th while the express shipping says January 4th only...

Can anybody tell me what's going on with Amazon shipping?

Probably a combination of there only being three shipping days next week (assuming Canada Post takes Monday off for Boxing Day comp) and Amazon shipping out more than usual because of Boxing Day sales.

Had to order the X-files seasons in three separate orders of 3, but it still works.

Apparently season 8 is fucked up, so hopefully they get fixed versions by the time they get them back in stock.

Just a rough week for shipping things like usual. You might get it on the 31st but I wouldn't expect it until the new year.

Beyond not knowing when this will come I'm worried about Pro controllers being rare as Nintendo probably has switched over production to NX stuff.

Amazon is the best.

I don't even care about X-Files season 8 disc encoding issues at this price. Grabbed seasons 7, 8 and 9 for $34.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Well, first Boxing day purchase (early that is). Monster Hunter 4 ultimate for 3DS on the eshop for only 25 bucks (give or take a buck or 2).

Wow. Best Buy is sold out of X-Files Season 1 online, so I'm sure all of the others are sold out too. I guess I'll have to go to the store early tomorrow morning and try to buy them all.

Encoding issue?

thanks, chrom. lol. I got shit to do so I'll buy the book later

$24 and it's the best 2015 game you guys won't even buy >_>

Encoding issue?
Lots of people on blu-ray.com forums noticed that episodes on the season 8 discs are too dark on some blu-ray players. Someone confirmed it was an encoding issue with the discs. Apparently they emailed FOX and are getting replacement discs sent out. No confirmation if they will replace sets already in stores though.

So it all still works but if you're a stickler for detail and image quality, season 8 might irk you a bit.

Woah. Where did you get a DS4 and XB1 controller that cheap?

And yeah, $40 still feels like too much for a Pro controller. I'll wait some more.

I don't believe I've ever seen the Wii U Pro Controller go on sale outside of 10% off accessories sale @ BestBuy. Nintendo's accessories rarely go on sale these days. The last time the Wii Remote Plus was on sale? Target's Boxing Day sale in 2014.

Someone mentioned it was like seeing a unicorn and I have to agree.

Best Buy and Microsoft screw-up. BB had the white PS4 controller for $25 for a bit, and Microsoft accidentally included the X1 controller with the $30 PC adapter .

Back when Target was around, twice it went 50% off (unadvertised).

As for Wii Remote Plus... that's kind of depressing.

Apparently my Wii U Pro Controller came from the Source last year for $30, I don't remember whether it was a coupon or a price glitch or an actual discount but yeah. It's the only reason I haven't bothered to buy a controller today, since I don't think I need two of them.

I got one Sep last year for $29.99. It was not a glitch or coupon; it was just a discount (maybe clearance?).

Edit: from the source.

Still going to be significantly faster than any hard drive. And unless you're doing major high volume data transfers you'd never notice a practical difference

If that's the benchmark, then yeah: it's a huge upgrade over HDDs. If you're in the market for something with a better balance of price/performance it's not too hot. It's a shame they didn't reproduce the BX100's price/performance ratio.

The BX200s aren't great according to Anandtech.

But if performance isn't high of your list then maybe it's okay?

I just want to play some games and do regular every day PC stuff. This would be my first SSD and I'm a complete noob at these things. Will my computer boot up super fast and games load super quickly if I install them onto this thing? If yes, then I think I'm good :P I'm definitely not doing any high volume data transfers. I think.

Yeah, I think for normal use it's fine.

It's fine. It's a great price for your first SSD!

I'm just coming from the perspective of a long time SSD owner who's looking for the next upgrade. I forget that not everyone has embraced the solid state bliss. :P

You can put this in a desktop right? I'm also a SSD noob and only know it's faster and more reliable than HDDs. Do I need any special brackets to install it?

I have mine pretty much just sitting free in the drive bay. If you're not moving your case around often, it shouldn't matter since there are no moving parts.

Performance aside, SSD is less likely to fail due to lack of moving parts. I think.
My understanding is that they have a limited number of writes and will inevitably fail. But I have no idea how many writes that is.

Sounds good, I think I'm gonna grab it.

I can always get a bigger and faster one in the future. Maybe when a 1TB SSD is somewhat affordable :)
It's been years and I don't know if prices have significantly gone down. lol
