Ignoring the dollar tanking even more, would I have to wait until next Black Friday / Xmas / Boxing day for the PS4 to be at its (relatively) lowest price again? I want one but thinking of a second monitor instead because it's a pain not being able to use my PC while playing PS3 games.

Wouldn't have to think about this if I just buy both I guess. That's an option.

Probably, IIRC the forecasts indicate that our dollar is going to staying the way it is for a long while.

I'm staying on last gen for longer than I anticipated. Both the console and game prices are just extremely unfriendly.

Maybe I should be paying more attention to financials, because holy shit why is our dollar dropping so much?

CBC:
The dollar's drop has been fuelled by several factors, including the continuing slide in oil prices, and the diverging monetary policies of Canada and the United States.

The U.S. Federal Reserve on Wednesday began raising its key lending rate for the first time in nearly 10 years, while the Bank of Canada has indicated it's in no hurry to follow suit. Some analysts say the Bank of Canada may have to lower rates to jump start the economy.
Some forecasts say the Canadian dollar could eventually hit 70 cents US. That's more a factor of the U.S. dollar increasing in value than the Canadian dollar going down, as the loonie is actually holding up fairly well when compared to most major currencies that aren't the U.S. greenback.

It's all pooh, I say. Pooh!

US economy is relatively strong compared to the rest of the world -- their stock market has been performing very well the last few years, low oil prices are super beneficial for them, etc. USD is a much hotter commodity lately than other currencies, much more investment going on there, and it's making nearly all other currencies seem really week.

Most of the recent weakness in Canadian dollar is the new collapse in oil prices. For a few months things looked like they were stabilizing and maybe slowly increasing but I think the warm winter (so far) + pretty much topped out oil storage has led to a dramatic recent decline in oil prices since the beginning of November. Check out the past year's oil prices:

I mean, as much as I miss video game deals it is nice to have steady employment from an American company that's saving money by having offices in Canada. When our dollar was stronk, the jobs sure weren't.

DEAL...?

Apparently if you spend $5 on the Google Play Store with Paypal, you'll get $3 off.

Never bought anything from there before... any good mobile games?

So now both my DS4 controllers have a sticking L or R2 button. Any deals to be had on controllers? If possible I want to use PayPal to buy. Anyone got a heads up?

Hmm, this is the lowest LEGO Dimensions has ever been.

But it will certainly be this low, or lower, on Boxing Day.

And it's such a terrible value. LEGO Avengers comes out in January and looks to have double the content on one disc.

And yet, like a true consumer, I'm tempted.

I'm sticking with lego dimensions. Why? variety. Where else can you fool around in the simpsons world, Scooby doo world, Dr Who world, and more in one game? Sure you have to use the accessories and figures, but at least there's more content coming out (ghostbusters, etc). I'm not regretting buying it one bit (and i'm 35). Besides, its a good stress release after a long day at work.

The idea of what you're saying is good. But buying the Back to the Future pack sets me back $30, some shelf space (and something new to dust incessantly), and gives me like a 30 minute level.

I feel like some drug dealers have better value propositions than that lol.

The idea in being in all these world is so awesome, but what you pay versus what you get is just nuts. That people get all bent out of shape at things like Rainbow Six Siege or Battlefront's content offering while this exists is hilarious to me.

I do admit some of the packs aren't worth it. But, imo, 30 bucks on a short but enjoyable level is worth more than spending 80 on a game that's long but very frustrating and hard to enjoy.

Well...yeah, but it's not like I'm choosing between Lego Dimensions and Eve Online :P

This isn't a deal, but I got so frustrated by this that I started ordering replacement buttons and springs on eBay so that I could stop sending controllers back to Sony on a regular basis. If you check eBay, you can grab sets of buttons and springs for a dollar or two with free shipping. Not an immediate solution if you need a controller right now, but it's worth grabbing some spare parts so that you can get your old controllers back in working order.

Can you buy battle.net gift cards in Canada?
My brother wants hearthstone cards for Christmas and against my better judgement I'm thinking of getting him some.

As long as I'm not the only one :)
Hope it gets here before the winter sale hits.

I hope so too. To be fair, they did say 10 business days.

The deal was on the 11th, so hopefully "business days" are more like "normal days," since the winter sale begins on the 22nd... 10 biz days could mean as late as Dec. 28.

Just got an e-mail with my code.

Kept checking for it in case it was showing up again, knew you wanted it.

And I appreciate it :)!

Not deal related but I've got this old LG Optimus 3D running 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich?). I want to root it to get these god awful rogers apps off, and maybe update 4.0.4 to something more recent if possible. The lag bothers me too. Is there somewhere on GAF I can go to ask question and help me through the process of rooting?

So have we still not seen any reason why Twilight Princess HD is still $20 more in Canada? I know BBYJuby said it was just a placeholder but prices were never changed and even EBGames is charging $99.99 for it.

tried to buy earth defense force 4.1 and the PSN site screwed up, gave me an error and I thought I'd try again later that day.

I got charged $50 for it on my credit card. Sony's not claiming responsibility for it and is blaming my bank. My bank is saying that it's definitely a real transaciton, and that they can dispute it if I want to. The issue? I'm pretty sure disputing it will destroy my PSN account.

Going to contact Sony again tomorrow.

So at my Best Buy, many Vita games dropped $5.04 (IE: Superbeat Xonic went to $44.95, Corpse Party $54.95, etc)
I think that's the first step toward full clearance. Seems this is the end of Vita there.
