Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

I'm just hoping for a good $369.99 PS4 bundle, it's pretty much now-or never when it comes to PS4 Prices, as my bet is on them increasing again in the new year. (Damn Canadian Pesos)
Yeah my friend just ended up biting the bullet and getting one of those bundles during black Friday. Boxing day probably the last chance at a good price for a long while

Boxing Day is gonna be weak.

Bring on the Steam Winter Sale

Hope Bloodborne hits $20 again soon.

Bestbuy was out of stock by the time I woke up, and eb games emailed me the freaking day after it was over. Just no luck getting that thing for $20 so I can pay $40 for the game+expansion. ><

I would love to buy LOTR extended.

But unfortunately, I just can't afford it with textbooks and all of the gifts I have to buy at this time of year.

Ask yourself if you really need those textbooks.

Bring on the Steam Winter Sale

The Steam Winter sale hasn't been relevant for me for like 3 years. Especially when the dollar was strong and other sites like GreenManGaming outstripped them. Also a few games received deeper discounts prior to the sale. I hope we don't see more of this as other devs and publishers get wise to the idea that people are trained to expect discounts during this sale.

Also if it's going to be like last year, Boxing Day is going to be similar to Black Friday. Expect plenty of repeats between the two events with a few titles like AC: Syndicate hit slightly lower price points $39.99 (?) instead of $49.99 from BF. Also expect different console bundles for that day.

Edit: Thanks for mentioning Boxing Day. I'm going to start on that comparison piece.

I noticed that amazon now has Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls 3 Day 1 Edition, for those who ordered during the E3 promo, is it safe to assume I would be getting the Day 1 Edition even though that isn't reflected in the open order or should I take to a rep about that?

My guess is that you'll get the day 1 edition. Another guess I have is that the CSR from Amazon will have no idea what you're taking about. Lol

CAD or USD?

$14.49 US came out to about $20.42 CAD via Paypal.

That's for those four games and a 20% off discount code towards a purchase. I think that code may expire soon. Not sure. The 20% off code itself may not be compatible with a Canadian account. May have to sell it. The game code works fine.

Hmm, if that discount code doesn't work, then this bundle isn't worth $20 (imo)

I don't know. I would value these games at at least $5 each and they will probably sell the PS2 titles at $15 each with Super Star Wars being crossbuy at $9.99.

It's a good deal but it depends on how interest you are in the games.

I am going to try putting games in my card and applying the code to see if it works. Will wait for the update sale though.

Edit: New games already going up on PSN. No discounts yet though. FFX/X-2 will be on sale.

I was BB yesterday in Surrey, BC and I almost choked aeeing those gaming prices and console. It'll be a cold day in hell before I buy a game this side of the border. I feel for my fellow Canucks. Even aftwr you do the cutrency conversion the US BF gaming deals killed Canada's EB Games / BB selection. Glad I bought a PS4 for $199.99 US (after selling the Uncharted Digital Code) compared to $429.99 plus tax here. Wish I could help you guys out.

Anyone been to a recently renovated BestBuy lately?

I went to the one on Merivale in Ottawa yesterday and it looks super weird now. Also games have been relegated to a dimly lit back corner with only three small isles (one each for Xbox, PS, Nintendo), with some accessories to the side.

DEAL

The Battlefront Star Wars PS2 games bundle with Super Star Wars and a 20% off code for a future PSN purchase for about $20 Canadian.

Got my codes right away.

Edit: 20% off code may not work on Canadian account. Haven't had a chance to try it. Game code works fine.

Edit 2: Code applies to my card and adds the discount. Should work on checkout but I haven't bought anything with it yet.

I want to pull the trigger on the deal since I really want Bounty Hunter and Racer Revenge, but since they're non-platinum games they'll be $9.99 at release so it doesn't balance out for me. Although I'm buying way too much junk on PSN tomorrow (which apparently has a $150 limit per transaction?) so that 20% discount would be cool. Damn it all!

I was at the Merivale location during renovations, I don't know what they were thinking doing it during peak sale season. It was a mess. Do they still have absurdly large used game sections compared to new games?

Do PSN cash cards ever go on sale like Xbox does all the time? Like, $50 CAD for $44?
Do xbl cards go on sale anymore? I haven't seen a sale in a LONG time.
I would like to strangle the idiots who whined that spacebux were confusing and wanted dollar values instead. With spacebucks I never paid full price for any digital title because sales were so common

Uh, yeah, on eBay they are on sale like every other week... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/50-Xbox-Gift-Card-for-44-/191754872508?hash=item2ca57b26bc:g:zkQAAOSwiLdWBb08

I bought many $25 cards for $20, too.

No, they still have some but it looks like they've mostly cleared it out. Their PS3/360 sections are also crazy small, I didn't check but I didn't even notice any Wii games any more. Also for some reason none of their 3DS games had pricing, which is the main reason I was there, so I just assumed they were all $45-50 and left.

I think both those games are currently on the PSN sale for like $3 each.

They appear to sell a discount on its own. Not sure if the standalone version works in Canada though. It can only ever be used once. You can't buy multiples.

This still the place to bitch about gaming-related shipping?

UPS left a parcel on my deck today. Rock Band 4 cymbal pack. Which was in its original box and not in another box, or bag, or anything. This would normally be fine, except we are getting a wicked fucking storm here today. Basically had freezing rain and ice pellets all morning, then started getting buried in snow a couple of hours ago. Parcel was apparently left at 8:45 AM or so.

Got home, box is sitting in my deck, exposed (not against my door, behind a wall, or even tucked behind my garbage can or anything), and is soaked through (snow in the box, even). I have no way to test them right now to see if they even work.

Fortunately Amazon has got me covered (sending a replacement, no questions asked) but, what the shit, UPS.

Edit: Cracked the box open and took out the contents. Scooped out some snow that got in some of the other boxes inside, but everything might be fine - HMX has shit in (tape-sealed) plastic bags and it looks like nothing vital took water damage (just some of the how-tos and shit).

Glad you're getting a replacement! It's annoying to know the person who delivered it probably won't get reprimanded for that. That's just beyond shitty.

(Did Amazon tell you to send back the old stuff?)

This is like when Canada Post delivered Gears of War Ultimate to me two weeks late (after I had the replacement already) and the whole package was soaked through, and they had a "sorry" bag wrapped around it. I sent it back and they re-delivered it a week later. They wanted me to have it, apparently.

So PSN doesn't have the Battlefront Ultimate Edition in the Canadian store... which means Americans can get the game + season pass for 90, while Canadians can go pound sand. That's really stupid. lol
