Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

If you wait a year after episode 1, they will release the complete edition, just like Life is Strange and Revelations 2.

A bit of a strange decision.

But it's not the end of the world. It'll still be the same game in the end

I bet it won't. I bet they'll use the format as a very convenient excuse to streamline certain parts of the game right out of existence. You won't be exploring an overworld, going through all the little optional things, etc. It'll be the main story (maybe only the highlights, even), played as an action RPG in realtime environments, and that's it.

Why use such a vague sentence ("multi-part series" - what the hell does this mean)? Couldn't they see this was going to cause backlash?

I'm actually okay with this if it means they can get the game out in a timely fashion.

Provided that:

A) the episodes are reasonably priced
B) the episodes are meaty enough
C) that the game actually gets bloody finished within a year or two of the first ep releasing

WTF!? Shoulda knew something was up when we got gameplay for it so soon. There had to be a catch, there's always a goddamn catch...

I have a bad feeling this is going to turn into a greatest hits version of the game. No chocobo breeding, no minigames, no world map. Just big events, character intros and bosses.

Thanks, Squeenix. The goodwill was there for a weekend, I guess :p

It has a profound effect on the game design. Like no overworld for one.
Well, to be fair each episode could be sectioned according to the numbers of CD's in which the original released which means they could still retain the open map but limited just like in the original game =D

Each part at 40.00 ofc =D x 100

They've done it. They've lost the plot entirely.

I thought their development of FFXV was the height of SE's incompetence and FF7R was going to start turning things around.

But no, they had to dig deeper.

Of its anything like the half life episodes or the NGE movies, the wait will continue to get longer between each episode.

Good points all around.

I share similar sentiments.

I've been watching some FFVII Let's Plays and I'm assuming tons of cut--Bestiary, Scenarios, even some Towns.

FFVII is a massive game in terms of assets, even back then.

They're gonna focus very much on the main story and cut a lot of the fat.

I'm replaying it right now, there really aren't that many towns or bestiary (if you take out reskins. Granted I haven't played 15. I would think 15 has about the same if not more.

I would rather taste this sooner so if it means a potential release next year then I'm in.

I'm in no matter what. I'll buy the season pass or whatever it is.

I can't jump on some hate train when this is literally one of the most anticipated games ever for me.
This isn't even the game that I wanted anymore.

And, you know, the worst part isn't costing $60 or some shit for each episode. That I could live with. It's all the implications that come from having an episodic structure. Fuck you, S-E.

Well, at least we got motherfuckin FINAL FANTASY XV, bitchez!!!! Hahahahahaha, where's your Nomura god NOW?!?!.....

......
FUCK! There goes my boner for the FFVII remake!!!! I think I need to sit down, my heart hurts. Why, Square?

Go play Kingdom Hearts games and FFXIII-2 and Dot Hack.

Fuck Kingdom Farts, Final Fantasy Turdteen-Too and Dot-Crap. If you can't tell, I'm a bit salty, but two of those series (FFXIII series... urgh, and Dot Hack), I hated and Kingdom Hearts, well, liked at first, but then they had to do stupid shit and ruin the good thing. If people like 'em, power to them. Me? Blech.

Maybe not dropping such a turd bomb in half a sentence would help?! I mean seriously, maybe expand what that statement entails in your fucking press release. It's their own fault for not being clear. The backlash had to be expected. And if they DO split it, it's right to say "fuck you".

I said it's fine to be upset by this, it bums me out too but I'm not gonna start making shit up to be upset about like how it's going to cost 60 bucks an episode.

I mean, they must've known people would be mad about this, right? Why the hell didn't they just say it right from the get-go? it's like they do this shit on purpose lol

Seriously where is this rage stemming from?

Where does it say any of that is gone?

Y'all losing it hard.
Yeah I don't understand that either. It was three separate discs with different content installed on each one the first time around. It could work the same way with different episodes using the same save.

this makes way more sense than doing a full on remake with all that effort that was looking like it would have. this way you don't have to do a huge mega overworld all at once, or even at all. it can just hit the key points of the story, walking dead season one style.

I don't get why people are so upset about this.

Because we don't think of remakes as episodic, but full games.

The original was a full game.

Moreover, this shows there would most likely be compromises to the original since an episodic format can streamline sections of the world and story.

I'm actually in wait and see mode now, rather than Day 1 purchase, but it's fun to pretend to be hysterical.

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
Ummmm... ya, fuck you SE, not touching this shit with a 10 foot pole.

Would have been better if this remake never happened, they could have used the resources on something new instead of destroying an old gem.

it's painful to see people mentally size up where they're going to put breaks in the original game.

this will be nothing like the sprawling, continuous universe connected by an overworld that you want. it'll be a cinematic, piecemeal experience with only a narrative continuity between each section.

by doing this, they can make a lot more money from nostalgia junkies for a magnitude less effort.

I agree. I think this is just going to be "fan service" game. Just to appease the fans who have been begging for a remake, and redoing certain parts, and release them in episodes.

Just a kick to the gut.

I ate some crow when I said a year ago that an FF7 remake wasn't financially feasible and it would be financially stupid to do it.

I am amused Square agreed with me.

Yo will Cybepunk be released Episodic too now? Since it a CDprojekt game so its probably going to be 200+ hours long. 10 episode? yeah I think so we can play it early yay!

/sigh....
