How about we discuss how Huey is an evil John Lennon

J has come to

Top 5 scenes in MGSV:

1) Infection mission + We are all Diamond Dogs
2) Quiet exit
3) Paz's ending
4) Venom Snake/Kaz dismember Skull Face
5) The Truth final scene leading into MG1 (even if you don't like the twist, at least it got a reaction out of you)

Most of the high impact scenes were in chapter 2 for me.

I pretty much agree with this. Huey's trial and exile was great, as was episode 20 walking through all the bodies with the tapes being played

Big Boss was known worldwide to the general public after MGS2, the Patriots declassified his files and he became an instant pop culture phenomenon. Otacon tells you in a codec call.

Before that BB was likely only known to military and higher up government types.

"Hey, this Big Boss guy is pretty cool! Wait... doesn't he kind of remind you of president Sears? No, seriously, he looks exactly like him!"

P.S. Remember the end of MGS3 when Big Boss got photographed shaking hands with the president like a million times by the press? ;)

im just happy that this game gave me new found love for VIOLLLLEEENCEEE BREEEDS VIOLLEENCEEEE

BUT IN THE END

IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY!

this way being a broken ending and broken dreams

That wasn't the press, though.

Eh. Getting a reaction from an audience is easy. Really easy, actually. That's not commendable.

I will say the overall direction of the scene was pretty good. It numbered among the few scenes that had strong visuals and a clear sense of composition and camera movement. Genuinely, while I thought the story was really stupid the visual execution was good.

Also you list lacks SUCH A LUST and is therefore wrong. Sorry :/

Just finished mission 46

Have to say - despite being dissapointed by skull face's exit - everything else was pretty great

Had the big twist ruined for me but I enjoy how it played out

Well played Kojima! Thoroughly enjoyed that!

Maybe it helps that I didn't do quiets exit stuff at all and that I didn't do any of the repeat missions. Also maybe I got lucky with how the mother base cutscenes played out as I got them in a pretty good coherent order

Didn't they speak in standard Greek? I understood every word of it.

I'm not too familiar with Cypriot dialect and its differences with Greek but I was in Larnaca this summer and could barely understand what they were saying at times.

Some people speak it a little heavier than others, for example I can speak the Cypriot dialect so a person from Greece would barely be able to understand, but I can also speak it so they do understand. Also the first words the doctor speaks when he asks if Venom can hear him he says "akouis me" instead of the more usual "me akous". I personally never heard someone in Greece say "akouis me" and have only heard it in Cyprus. Although it's probably used that way in some places in Greece.

I think "reaction" is the wrong way to put it. I think the fact that people are still discussing this game and its twist is definitely something.

You're right, the expression is Cyprian or else it would have been me akous.

Yeah that's what I meant to say. That we are still talking about the twist and it's implications. Makes us go over the entire MG/MGS canon in order to try to pick it apart.

No, yeah you're right... it was probably just a random group of people with giant flashbulb cameras and press badges, snapping pictures at a very photo-opish event.

Maybe some enthusiastic staffers, who can say?

In Peace Walker Big Boss states that the meeting was strictly confidential. Why would they invite the press to an event that should not even be mentioned?

Then I guess the only reasonable explanation is that all those press people were just hallucinations caused by the horn lodged in Big Boss' cerebral cortex.

speak for yourself. only makes me just sorta bemusedly shake my head. i mean, talk about running out of room, twist-ending wise :) ...

Or... They were government staff taking a bunch of pictures for the confidential files.

Dude, face it. Big Boss and his clones' recognizability has been completely absurd since MGS1 when it was revealed the president of the United States was the third clone.

How could Solid Snake not have recognized that the president of America looked identical to Big Boss? And if your answer is that he looked younger at that point, then why wouldn't he instantly recognize him as a twin, like he did when he first saw Liquid?

This is just one part of the lore that was always broken, and it's ok.

Sure, but they absolutely were in MGS3. You don't take a million pictures of a military hero shaking the president's hand for posterity's sake. It's pretty obvious they just changed it after the fact when they realized that the world knowing who Big Boss was and what he looked like would be problematic to the lore.

No, they were not. You don't bring the press to a confidential event. The government has its own photographers, you know?

This, so much

I'm with you. They were "enthusiastic", but its not too much of a stretch to see them simply as confidential documenters.

Also, checked in for daily reward, noticed I had my FOB invasion "cherry" "popped", and since my guards sucked and the infiltrator was ruthless they couldn't get a fix on their location for retaliation. They stole the majority of my unprocessed materials, about 20,000+ each except for like 250+ for precious metals. Feels bad man.

I then tried to get some missions done to farm for heroism as I started to build the security devices I hadn't needed until this point, and failed regularly, only got like two or three missions out of six done.

FOB system just makes me want to resign from the game, it's not like there's much point to it after beating all the story content anyways.. Ugh, wasted time, and now the next term of college started today..

Edit:

How about we discuss how Huey is an evil John Lennon

That's pretty funny, too bad he never gets to ham it up as a villain since he never admits it.

So much Phantom Pain with this game..

koojiiimaaaaaa.gif

Oh yeah, people've probably seen and discussed it to death by now (after all I found out it came out because I checked this thread) but the Super Bunnyhop video is great. Sums up the real point of the story and kind of makes it slightly more worthwhile, good enough to live with, while also going to town on the games many flaws, story, gameplay, presentation, concept, everything. It perfectly encapsulates my problems with the game and really explains anything better than most could.

Makes me appreciate the game a tiny bit more, but as I mentioned above, the game just makes me feel empty, especially if I'm playing to try to grind for necessary security measures as part of the stressful invasion system. I wish I could just scuttle my FOB and avoid having my FOB be an open port for invaders.

Big Boss doesn't look identical to Solid/Liquid so neither would Solidus. Solidus would also look older than him,(and younger than BB) was clean shaven, and just carried himself differently as president. Big Boss was scruffy and had a missing eye and his life of war would have have taken a toll on his face, making it very worn out compared to Solidus.

If you saw that the president looked kinda similar to you or someone else would your mind go straight to "he must be a clone" or would just say "oh" what a crazy coincidence

Rewatching Huey being exiled, it really was well done. Especially Kaz's VA. It didn't feel as hammed up as alot of scenes in the game.
Best acted and most complete scene in the game other than Quiet's ending.

MGSV: Quiet and Huey's Bogus Journey

Supporting cast: Navajo Burger and "McDonald's" Miller

Guest starring Not Boss and Boring Ocelot

I'd say that pretty much all of my most memorable moments/scenes in MGSV emerged during regular gameplay, not in the story beats.

Wait some people are saying that in the final scene (Truth ending) when Venom Snake is in the bathroom, there are gunshots being heard in the background and they are speculating that Solid Snake is already in the compound and Venom Snake goes out to deal with Solid Snake (MG1).

Is this actually true or just speculation? I did hear gun fire in the background but I thought it was just Venom hearing things.

Just finished 'the Truth' and I didn't get the whole credits roll cause I know it goes all the way to MGS4. I also didn't do Quiet's final side op send off though, so maybe that's why? I just wanted to see how this shit ends.

I'll probably do Quiet's side op, then put the game aside until MGO is out.

Actually, Solidus would have looked pretty damn close. He fought in the First Liberian Civil War, so he obviously went through some shit. Also, unlike Solid and Liquid he is a "perfect" clone. It wouldn't be a case of looking a bit similar, it would be a case of basically looking identical. Also we found out in MGS3 that when BB was young he actually did look almost exactly like Solid Snake.

As far as age goes he'd have to be pretty close to either Big Boss when Solid knew him, or Solid himself.

I absolutely love this series but... It's a plot hole.

We can try and make this unfounded claim that the snakes and big boss don't look exactly alike, which I think is bs personally. But Solidus is a perfect clone. You can't mean to tell me that Roy campbell any other top brass, or anyone wouldn't have thought to themselves "wtf, he looks like the greatest warrior of the 20th century". Or that a certain terrorist looks like a younger version of the former president? If we take age into account, why didnt Solid snake ever think, wow George Sears looks a lot like big boss, and why should he be surprised to find that he's a clone?. Because it was a stupid and contrived twist with no real thought put into it...so we simply just move on.

Just finished chapter 1 and did some side ops with quiet then returned to mother base. I was surprised to have a cutscene where venom and quiet played in the rain. lmao

I liked the whole "here is the enemy, on his knees" line for the Huey cutscene.

That's been the answer everyone was coming to. That it's basically a lead up to Solid killing him.

It's the consensus and not really a stretch. The time jump indicated by the diamond dogs logo changing to Outerheaven. Theres the MSX next to the cassette player and the cassette name is the name of operation of MG1. Gunshots in the background, blood on the boss's face, and his being angry. I would assume that Snake is there.

That's interesting, but Venom's still got the Diamond Dogs patch on his shoulder in that cutscene so I don't really know. I'm just going to take that as them missing a detail in the character model, because everything seems to line up with that cutscene being set during Metal Gear 1.

So what if they look similar? Why would any person think that the president is some kind of clone of BB? That's an absolute ridiculous thing to think for any normal person. Why would Solid think George Sears of all people is a clone(and thst hes one himself) when he had no idea about any of that crazy shit before MGS1. Liquid would be the one who should've guessed at it.

If we saw a photo of some army guy who looks like a younger Obama would you think he was a clone? Of course not, thats fucking dumb. One of the reasons the Pats made Solidus president is because he looked like BB and the top brass would like him for that I guess. So yes Campbell and others probably did notice he looked eerily similar to BB, that doesn't mean you're gonna assume he's a damn clone.

Age, scars, the way you live (smoking, war), make up, hair, facial hair, the are countless ways for similar looking people to look different and not like identical twins who go out of their way to look the same.

That's a strawman as I didn't say anything about snake not piecing that himself. And if you think it's perfectly normal that snake should kill big boss and basically stare at him on the news and not think anything of it, that it's somehow normal, well then I don't know what to say to you. It's clear that in writing the twist kojima cornered himself and elected to move forward rather than explain the oversight. Because it can't really be explained save for creating a new contrivance.

Yeah, probably the case

rewatch the final cutscene when he breaks the mirror you see the outer heaven logo on the door in the background

edit: also I assume at this point that Boss believed Venom would have killed Solid? Or did he want Solid to get rid of him. Or hoping you would wipe each other out

I can't believe we're arguing about why Solid didn't recognize George Sears as Big Boss... How doesn't Lois not recognize Clark as being Supernan... Cause it's overlooked to progress other plot devices. You've always needed to suspend your belief for Metal Gear.

Yeah, probably the case

Solid killed an old, heavy smoking, war torn man, with scars, one eye, and was in full crazy warlord mode.

This is President Sears, does this guy really look 100 percent identical to the Big boss of Outer Heaven/Zanzibar?

This is what I'm saying. Rather than make up some stupid justification of what was a total flub up, just acknowledge it's stupid and press on.

Rewatching the cutscene, there's also a Diamond Dogs logo on the door behind him. I don't think he's in Outer Heaven yet. The timeline at the end states that Big Boss established Outer Heaven while working for the US Military but it was his phantom who died during the Uprising. If Big Boss was actually the one setting up Outer Heaven, I don't see how Venom could end up swapping places with him without being aware that he isn't the real Big Boss. The label on the cassette tape is also hidden so we can't see if it is referring to Operation Intrude N313 (Solid Snake's mission) or N312 (Gray Fox's failed mission to gather disinformation). I'm thinking it could be N312. Perhaps Big Boss is requesting that Venom leave the Diamond Dogs to run Outer Heaven so they can stage Gray Fox's mission?
