Street Fighter V: Vega Reveal Trailer

I haven't read any info but if Vega has stances that's awesome to me. Since Gen's 3xK stance was a little bit Vega-ish and I don't expect Gen to appear in SF5 (don't even expect to see him in DLC tbh) - this might fill my Gen-shaped void in SF5.

I was hoping there was going to be a character with stances, I just hope that there is a pay off in terms of damage output. I always felt I was working 3 times as hard for every win with Gen when opponents would just mash DP.

Why wouldn't Gen not be in SF5? It didn't stop similar type characters from appearing in other games.

I just assumed he wouldn't be anywhere near the top of the list of returning characters since he had an outting in SF4 and wasn't hugely popular. If he returns, that's awesome but I wasn't banking on it.

Being able to change stances WITH his claw is likely to make him stronger. Not being able to will be the nerf. You don't know much about the character at all right now, so trying to decide whether or not having the claw is a nerf or not, or how he's going to play is a bit silly.

Edit: Really don't care who you or anybody wants to see, honestly. Everybody is going to have a preference and every announcement is going to disappoint somebody. You guys can ride that depressive train. I'm riding the train people are boarding because the game is fucking awesome so far.

Being able to combo off that Flying Barcelona Claw Attack is a really excellent thing. No idea how likely you'd be to land that in the first place, though. That EX FBA claw > cr.punch x EX FBA > VTrigger combo looked fancy.

I think he looks great. He won't have to rely on one-frame links for ranged damage like in SFIV plus having a stocked VTrigger looks like it might make opponents more cautious.

Also; his blouse is fabulous.
 
Dang, wasn't expectin' my boy Vega at all, a very nice surprise! Just need me that Balrog to complete the Shadowloo trio, and I'll be content for all of SFV's lifetime.

1. So that his classic costume will sell.

3. Maybe not. Would that be so terrible? I'm thinking he'll be semi-charge like Chun.
4. His projectile is his v-trigger. You might see it twice per match.
 
That's a really weird pick for the starting roster of SFV. I am sure if they wanted to put in a Shadowloo character, people would have been way happier with Sagat, or even Boxer.

So will I.

I always loved Vega, but I was never able to fully use him. This change would be the reason I use him more often. The only charge characters I was good with in SF were Charlie/Remy.

Someone explain this to me. Is hating charge characters/charging a new thing? Did charging techniques skip a generation or something? It's not high level calculus, people! I love charge characters as a good change of pace/style.

Everything has to be easy and accessible because Casuals don't want to be frustrated.
 
I'd be pissed if they changed Bison into a motion character but fortunately not lol.

If Balrog is in I'd rather he stay charge too, especially if Vega actually isn't a charge character anymore since Bison is alone right now.

I mean, by this point in my life, I'm casual as fuck, but charging is just a basic technique I've had on lock since Snes SF days. It's Street Fighter DNA. Could never get partitioning right though and that still bugs me.
 
Someone mentioned in the other thread.

But perhaps Vega's stance changing between Claw and non Claw changes between charge moves and QCF moves.

Claw Stance - Charge Moves
Non Claw Stance - QCF Moves

Makes sense I think Gen plays like this too.

Really, I though the opposite due to advanced stuff like charge partitioning.

Charge characters usually get beastly normals to compensate for their need to charge.

It's also requires more patience, which isn't a newbie trait.

Yes. I have friends who have been playing FG's for over a decade who refuse to use charge characters. And if I try to get someone new into FG's they act like I'm crazy for recommending a charge character.

When I first jumped into the SF series, charge characters completely went over my head. I didn't understand what was a charge at first for a couple of weeks, and when I did, I walked myself into the corner to get out a succession of Sonic Booms.

They are not easier to play and understand for novices compared to motion characters, imo.
 
Man, I played a lot of Vega in USF4, and I can honestly say I did not expect him to make the cut for this game. I really expected Oro or Alex instead.

He looks like he'll be at least more viable than his SF4 incarnation. His v-trigger looks kinda blah though; Seems like it combos, but it's like filler for more damage. Maybe it'll seem more useful once I know more about it.

Also it seems like he might be heavily dependent on meter to do damage. It seems like all of his combos in the trailer needed meter to extend them.

He seems like they took the philosophy of his omega incarnation and applied that to this version of him. It'll be interesting to see how much he changes with the claw off.

Charge partitioning is a weird example because it's this esoteric thing that only appears in one game.

Charge stuff was a little weird for me starting out tho cuz I had to wrap my head around storing charge while doing other things...like venom 66 3 to store a charge while dashing

nice posts, Ken's hair needs a little bit more strands I think and look less like a banana, but yeah, he looks just fine in game. Just have to fix his select screen.

Can't wait to play this man, hope Capcom hurry ups with the beta.

Also, I noticed Vega's ex moves seem to not be as bright/colorful. I hope everyone's ex is like that. Other characters look to busy IMO, especially Ken.

Well, based on what we saw. It doesn't exactly miss, since it seems to head directly to the opponent. Which means you can sit on V-Trigger in getting the opponent to be afraid to even jump since you can't block in the air, which would be guaranteed damage.

charge partitioning is hardly a good example of something a new player would need to learn. it's not even really in sf4 at all.

and the beastly normals is exactly why they are the perfect characters to learn on. having good buttons to press makes life easier and requires little to no execution.

With all of my hoping for Q, Oro and Necro I completely forgot about Remy. Goddamn would he be awesome in this game.

I need to go watch Remy play now.

Whaaat? That would be a pretty big deal. I'm glad Vega's in. I'm not actually any good with him, but I do like the character.

I'm not on the "everyone's face is ugly" train that seems so popular now but for some reason Ken's face just isn't recognizably Ken. I can't really explain why but if I wasn't being told specifically that was Ken I'd have no idea that it wasn't a new character.

This hasn't been in issue in any previous version of SF for me so it's strange that he looks so different to me in this game.
 
Vega and Gen were my most succesful mains in IV. Vega with stance changes? That's my jam.
