Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

I think Destiny's alpha and beta ran almost perfectly.
Aside from their biggest feature, which is getting people to consistently show up in instances not working as intended for days, yeah perfectly.

Bungie also kind of fathered modern matchmaking in video games and has previously handled record breaking first day online numbers game after game after game, so it's pretty different. Not sure why this is a point of comparison vs. Capcom developing new tech and testing it out for a different service than they've ever had before.

I imagine it's hard to make form much of an opinion on this just yet, but does the game feel significantly more beginner friendly than 4? Less of a focus on complex combos/inputs, etc

Sort of. The execution has been lowered significantly, however with the higher damage output and much higher stun output, commitment to moves and lack of options to make them safe makes the player really rely on strong footsies, reads and reactions, which are things beginners struggle with more than combo execution. This is what I've gotten from what I've played and watched thus far.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out, and what they are thinking of implementing tutorial wise.

So ummm, I just renewed my PS+ and it's telling me the server is disconnected :-/

I played it pre-E3 / tournament at E3 / EVO, and I definitely think it's friendlier in terms of inputs. Just the fact that supers themselves are now one button instead of three makes a big different, as does the V-stuff being easy to pull off.

To me, it feels like the thinking is less "make this complex to perform" and more "make it how and when you perform these moves determine how good you are".

Sorry, I didnt understand. What does that mean?

Edit: Also, I'm not comparing the companies or even the game. The guy just asked for a game that had a great beta and I said destiny. That's it.

Well lack of FADC will do that.

FADC was such a terrible mechanic.

I feel like this entire thread is the result of the word "beta" being perverted over the years to just mean "demo", thus shifting the word from what I used to know it to mean: a work in progress that isn't ready to ship and needs more testing. Nowadays, Beta means something like "ready to ship in a month" or "playable demo".

With that little rant out of the way, I got to play for about 30 minutes last night ("play" meaning "training room", of course) and had a damn blast. Playing with a pad isn't nearly as frustrating as I thought it would be. Maybe it's just the "new game, new controller" honeymoon phase, where I don't have pre-concieved notions of how the game works. At least, that's what I'm hoping. I'd love to not have to buy another stick.

Pad-warriors, Question for you: What are you usual buttons bindings/setups? I saw someone mention to put PPP on L1 (which is genius) and using the shoulder button+face button for EX moves (instead of two face buttons). This never occurred to me. What other tips do y'all have? Help an old stick user out.

In the Destiny beta 1 or 2, people that you see around the maps just wouldn't connect so you'd be there alone.

Yeah, this is a real beta, not a marketing beta which is exactly why it should have been tied to fucking pre-orders in some regions. That's the only bit about this that gets me.

People, including myself (across PS3 and 360), were going into instances and other players were just not showing up. This went on for a while. The matchmaking that's supposed to load in and load out new players to populate the world wasn't matching people up so it was like you're playing single player.

This was also an issue present at launch for a while, though it was noticeably worse in the beta.

A "playable demo" can be classified as an alpha or beta. When was that not the case?

You talking about the beta or PSN in general?
PSN works fine, always does for me but the beta is showing the same message it showed before it opened, but as someone said it's suspended.
At least it's not just me then

I wouldn't justify anyone getting mad at this turn of events, but when it comes down to it, the incentive on our end for helping Capcom test the game is getting to play a hotly-anticipated new fighting game. It's a trade, and so far only one party is getting what it wants. A lot of people were no doubt excited about playing the game and probably made plans due to the scheduling (some even paying for the privilege). So I understand the disappointment and frustration, but also recognise that it's merely an inconvenience in the long run. I'm sure this beta will give us plenty of opportunity to have lots of great games once Capcom iron out the wrinkles.

Basically, nobody should be at anybody's throats one way or the other over this.

There were a number of factors which contributed to SFIV failing to capture mainstream interest, but I always felt FADC was SFIV's biggest downfall. It created a large rift between casual players and dedicated players, and left little room for anyone in between. And it just looks weird and illogical. Like a cheat, almost. SFV looks to be doing everything right regarding bringing casual players back.

I like this training mode music. When people start picking training mode for every match in tournaments and online lobbies I might not lose my mind anymore.

This.

Think that this is an excellent way to putting it.

I just hope there is no need to pick that stage over all the others all the time.
I think i only see that in capcom fighters but i could be wrong .

Was just wondering, I renewed my PS+ last night and then suddenly couldn't connect at all online so I thought it was a specific glitch or something.

The thing that is annoying is some pretending like people don't know what the purpose of this test was. Or saying that "you shouldn't be surprised" as if this was the original plan and they were sitting on the sidelines saying "temper your expectations this isn't going to work very well."

I feel like this is going to be a semantics argument over what the word "playable" means, but hell, lets dive into it. What I mean by "playable demo" is the marketing materials a company releases that's 100% playable. It's a polished demo released now as a "beta". Are alphas and betas playable? Of course they are. Can they be considered demos? Sure, why not. But I expect demo's to work no questions asked. I expect alphas and betas to crash, and not connect to servers, and have big "PLACEHOLDER" question marks everywhere, and have random bugs non-stop.

Ono is so sad though. Plz give second chance.

You should expect those things, (although we're likely not gonna a ton of bugs or very obviously unfinished textures when the beta is up and working). And yea, they could be considered demos. It is semantics but technically they're still "demos." Aside from the servers apparently having a major issue, nothing i've seen so far indicates that this isn't a super polished slice of the game.

I find it a little odd that people keep focusing on the word BETA and saying that it is to be expected because it is a BETA. They should maybe focus on another word like NETCODE, seeing as how what this what the purported purpose of this testing.

- You can't get mad because it's a BETA.
- This is the purpose of the BETA is to test the sever and everything else
- Server issues are NETCODE testing, the BETA is working as intended
- etc

I'm not trying to take a shit on Capcom here as well, shit happens but the defense force in here is a little insane.

wat

So wait instead of extending it more they are rescheduling the beta now?
I wouldn't put too much stock into his engrish, especially considering the SF Twitter account hasn't RT'd it. More likely than not they're gonna fix it, put it up as soon as they can and then extend it for the time lost.

Yeah, keep in mind that Ono's english is very very rough so I wouldn't be surprised if his tweet didn't actually mean a full rescheduling and rather just a delay of a day or two. We'll see.

I feel that complaints are warranted. I understand it's a beta, but not even being able to play is a pretty big fuck up.
