Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

Read tweets from Ono apologizing. They weren't expecting this to happen and this isn't what they wanted at all. They aren't sitting back saying "Good to know" they are scrambling to get this fixed.

Have they tried unplugging their router and plugging it back in after a few minutes yet? If not, they should try that and if it doesnt work then try calling their internet provider.

Either way, this Start Screen is working great!

In all honesty, this was meant to test their online functionality. Its been along time since I can remember a online Beta going smoothly day one and its almost expected to happen for MMOs. But for the love of God, please add a training mode asap while we wait for the servers.

I am not angry but people saying the beta doing what it suppose to do is BS.
This beta was suppose to test the net code during gameplay .
It good that capcom getting more info so this don't happen at launch but the beta is not doing it's main purpose .

And it'll happen once the first stage issues are resolved. It's just the order of things.

As mentioned already, it's supposedly new online tech for Capcom, so they probably didn't quite expect whatever error they've come across. Once it's solved, we'll get to stress test match making, the matches themselves and the roll-back, the latency the everything. Soon...

So how's the beta guys? I can't find any streams.

It's AMAZING. Turns out that there are actually 20 new characters, plus the entire cast from SF1-4, Alpha, Final Fight, and even EX are playable!!*

*This may or may not be the result of me imagining what the game is like since the beta is currently unavailable.

Well yes that much is true. Granted this may be one of those since it's a preorder incentive that probably has super polished gameplay with minimal glitches.

Given that the intended purpose of the beta is to test the new netcode and that SFV has been playable by people (and pros specifically) for sometime now, I have no doubt that the gameplay side of things is far more polished then everything else.

People, instead of just sitting around wasting your time whining, which is doing nothing, go play a game. Seriously. I'm not trying to be an ass, but go do something to take your mind off the beta.

A demo is a chunk of a game that you get to play as a preview.

A beta is a build of an incomplete game that you get to play as a test. That's what we have here. It sucks that it doesn't work but I fully expected that this could be an issue since this is a beta.

What's more, people paid money for a pre-order, with the beta being a bonus incentive. As long as you still have your pre-order you're getting what you paid for.
A demo is both. The two aren't mutually exclusive. "Alpha demo" "beta demo" etc. Granted demos released at the same time as a game release are 99.9% of the time 1:1 with the final build.

These specific characters are at least.

Not being able to log in is part of the netcode test. It is all parts, not just matches.
Netcode in fighting games (well any game) specifically pertains to the connection and latency between players in a match not logging on the server. Someone correct me if im wrong. If Capcom wanted to test the server they wouldve called it a stress test and have different information provided in what to expect from a beta.

And that is okay with me since all the data they get will be helpful to them for launch.

I'm happy they found this shit now instead of release date. What hell that would be.

Tell that to Capcom because they clearly don't think that way. Do you think they put this out saying "let's see if they can get on"? Nobody over there is deeming this successful or more importantly useful in any way.

I imagine it's hard to make form much of an opinion on this just yet, but does the game feel significantly more beginner friendly than 4? Less of a focus on complex combos/inputs, etc

Ive played in quite a few betas so I know what a beta is and what it is supposed to do but EVERY time the servers crash you get the flood of people saying "its a beta, this is going to happen, do you even know what a beta is?".

Every freakin time.

Smart developers know that the servers will get hammered or that the log-in server will have problems so they plan accordingly but not Capcom.

No amount of excuses will change that this beta was to test the netcode and content delivery system, not stress test the servers. So far, this beta is a failure and that is a fact.

They are testing the whole network architecture of the game, software and hardware, and even PSN, and billions of other things.
"Netcode" is a drop in the ocean.

It's basically a stress test isn't it? Most betas I took part in were like this. I remember the first weekend beta of FF14 ARR, shit was unplayable and that's if you could even log in. Things got better eventually, don't worry guys.

The people that have played it seem to think so for sure. Much easier combo executions and no more crazy ass 1 frame links. They said it feels more like actual Street Fighter than SF4; take that as you will.

Not sure why this is difficult.

Obviously they want people to play the game. But the servers melted down. Even though this may not be want they want to test, it's still useful. We've had games release in this state after all. I remember Diablo 3 doing this, DriveClub obviously, Halo MCC, etc. The fact that the servers aren't letting people get in the games is still something that will make the game better.

Wait, isn't this why they beta test games? Too test things like this? Why are people so outraged? I rather this happen now so they can get things fixed for the real game. I'm pretty sure when it's ready they will reopen the beta servers for the same amount of days so we can test it. The game is over a half a year away. Chill out guys.

It's not a fact but keep pretending it is. The beta is exactly for this type of thing where it's testing the entire infrastructure including the login servers.

It's more of a pre-alpha at this point in development than a beta, so labeling it as such is a bit odd. But yeah, generally betas are far along enough that they actually work, people need to quit using "it's a beta" as an excuse when we have Ono apologizing for it since it's clearly not being tested the way it was intended. This isn't a beta problem, it's a Capcom problem.

They might be testing it now but Im sure that broad of a definition isnt what people or even capcom meaning when talking about netcode.

Exactly, beta is definitely a game in playable state. Beta isnt an excuse honestly unless really its an alpha or something else

Great, but this isn't what they set out to have this beta test, and I think saying otherwise is foolish. They expected people to be able to log in, not to test whether or not they actually could. This was an extremely public, hyped beta that you get from pre-ordering the game. They were expecting people to be able to get in a play. Again, nobody from Capcom is happy about this, it was clearly either a major error or oversight on there part. I think this is bolstered by the fact they have now postponed the beta. Otherwise, why do it? Keep it up and see if people can log in while you work on it?

I mean let's be real here.

If Capcom actually gave a shit about testing the servers to their maximum potential they would have opened the floodgates to everyone, not just pre-order buyers.

They just want yo money.

they don't get that money though?

because there's this wonderful concept of going back to Amazon/BB/GameStop and cancelling that preorder.

Please tell me the last time a betas servers ran flawlessly? This isn't the first or the last time this has happened, so don't give me a beta is not to "stress test the servers".

Destiny had a good beta .
Yeah it had some problems but no where as bad as this .
Then again bungie is top class at this sort of stuff .

I'm glad you got in to play for at least four minutes. I was worried my gift would be in vain. :D

Haha, yeah I was to throw three punches in with Nash before being kicked out. Then I was able to get in again and start doing Teleport shenanigans from his EX Tragedy Assault.

It was great fun for those moments. :)

Well, part of testing something is coming up with stuff you didn't anticipate. So they wanted people to play the game, and I am sure they expected their login stuff to be up to snuff. It's not. So that is useful, even if it's not ideally what they wanted in this test.

That's the point. The test is everything.

Well, I'm hoping this is reverse Destiny then. Destiny had a great beta but a game that had no depth after that. Hoping Street Fighter's beta is awful but game has plenty of depth!
Insert joke about buying Red Bull here

I said flawless. But if you want to use Destiny fine. You can look up numerous articles where Destiny had its beta issues on both networks/consoles but it made for a better release of the game. My point is that a multiplayer betas purpose is to test server stability every time and I'll never believe it isn't. It's impossible to "be prepared".

Has there been any word on the Beta possibly extending a day or two because of the issues? That would be nice.
They confirmed that it's getting extended.

Pretty big difference between some people experiencing issues with Destiny and this. Bungie were prepared, their servers were really on point and likely had a shit ton more players trying to play at the same time than with this game, iirc each person who had a code also received two extra codes.

You know what's sadder than people complaining/feeling disappointed for this completely broken online infrastructure/beta? Corporate apologist mofos telling them how they should and shouldn't feel because this is a beta. The fuck outta here, sons.
Nah, corporate apologists would defend a game that has been released in a broken state. There is no money being made here, this is them getting trying to get kagemusha up to par. Betas are not always glorified demos and it's not "sadder" to point this out vs some people's knee jerk overreaction to a beta since we aren't as entitled to a beta as we would be to downloading an actual demo.

That's not really a fair assessment, because capcom would be damned either way, go in blind and hope for the best vs test months in advanced to find holes. You can't have your cake and eat it too. The situation sucks for sure, it's been down for like 16 hours, but that's not even unheard of when games actually see release.

Ya Destiny was an exception for me cause the damn "beta" ran flawlessly for me as well. I'd label it more of a glorified demo than a beta for that reason. Everything worked!

And I'd label this an Alpha build rather than a Beta.
