Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

You saying Microsoft doesn't care about Forza is more than disproved by the fact that they did have probably one of only two production prototypes on stage.

Where did I say that?

Also, like I said, shit like that benefits Ford more than it does them so it doesn't disprove anything really.

Haha and we should get excited about that because...? As nice as the new Ford GT is, last time I checked it doesn't come with the game. We also knew about that partnership from when the game was announced so all in all stunts like that are going to leave people pretty unmoved at this stage. And what exactly does the Ford guy being on stage add to anything? It's a games conference, not the Geneva motorshow.

My point is, they didn't show/talk about the game as much as they should. All they had was a trailer. It would have been nice to see some sort of gameplay demonstration, especially on the new stuff like the puddles and how night racing affects things. How about the new things they are doing with the career mode? Or any other new additions/features etc? That would have impressed people a lot more and built some excitement rather than the current reaction of "oh there's another Forza game, right on schedule".

Cut the fluff, cut the bullshit marketing that only benefits Ford and just show us the fucking game.

I agree to an extent with you. I think MS places Forza on a high pedestal, but I also think they should of gave the game a little more love than they did at the presser. In 2013, they did it a bit better. I too wish they had given them a few more minutes. Do the same intro, show the trailer, the car, let Henry Ford do his thing, but then let Dan talk and have someone racing a lap around one of the tracks as Dan talked about improved Driveatar, or Forza Tech or whatever.

If I did not watch anything about Forza 6 other than the E3 presser, I would of felt disappointed and I did during the conference and then after reading and watching everything I was fine. But at an event like this, I think they should of gave it a little more time. Perhaps they need to make the presser a little longer so they can spend a little more time on some of the games.

Having the brand new Shelby GT350R, Ford GT and Raptor exclusive to Forza 6 doesn't hurt.

Not to mention Forza Motorsport being advertised by Ford.

It might get the game mentioned when car blogs post about the car or whatever. MS also sponsors a chicane at le mans with forza motorsport branding.

I just wish they showed more of the game.

And yet, they didn't mention any of those things once at the press conference. See what I'm getting at?

The Forza bit seemed rushed. The GT was cool, but there was little reason for Henry Ford III or Dan to be on stage with what was shown. It didn't get as much time as it should have imo.

I'm all in, preordered the digital ultimate edition just now.

Since Porsches will be a post-launch add on, I'm assuming that it's going to be one big DLC pack like in Forza 4 and Horizon 2. If that's the case, then I want all the cars in the Forza 4 and Horizon 2 Porsche DLC, and add...

The latest 911 GT3 R race car, to go with the inevitable 997, 996 and 993 racers.
The latest 911 GT3 RS road car
The 919 prototype racer that won Le Mans this year
911 GT1 Strassenversion
Don't know if the 928 is in the Forza 4 DLC, but if it isn't, add that in. It's a forgotten part of Porsche's history. Maybe add the 968 too.
And last but not least, the 917 prototype racer that got Porsche their first Le Mans victory in 1970.

Helios, pls.

Guys, I need some help with figuring out some of these external cars from different bundles, VIP, preorders, and loyalty program.

So there seems to be cars that are given to you for doing something, but these are just early unlocks, the other players can get them too. And then there are cars that are exclusive to those who do some stuff, and can never be unlocked/bought in-game by anyone else. I will use double spaces to make it easier to read.

So there is:

Preorder: 10 (exclusive to preorders of any edition, no one else can buy them with in game credit)

Preorder: 2016 MX-5 (exclusive or early unlock?)

Car pass: 42 cars (obviously exclusive pass)

VIP: 5 cars (exclusive pass) (note 458 Italia, 2016 GT350R)

Fast and Furious: FF cars (exclusive to Ultimate edition)

Tier Rewards: (early unlocks, not exclusive) (the highest tier car can still be used by a low tier player by just buying it in-game)

Game Rewards: (early unlocks based on what previous games you played)

Previous VIP Rewards: (early unlocks for previous VIP passes owned) (note LaFerrari, Koenigsegg Agera)

So my questions are: Is the only way to play the 458 Speciale and new 2016 Ford GT350R is to buy the VIP pass? Kinda sucks if so. Next, the LaFerrari and Agera are playable without being a previous VIP member, correct? You just do not get them unlocked early and for free, right?

Yes, if you want the 458 Speciale/GT350R, you need to buy the VIP pass. Yes, if you were a previous VIP member, you get them for free, you can still get them if you're not, you just need to buy them with in-game cr. Also the pre-order 10 year car pack cars are just special tuning set-ups/liveries for those cars, you cans still buy the regular version in-game, just with credits.

Damn, I have the 458 Speciale in FH2 and I couldn't go back to using the regular 458. How much is the VIP pass? 20$? But if I buy it now with FM6, then the VIP passes for subsequent games, FH3, FM7...etc. will be half-price?

I would assume so, but who knows? Maybe they might get rid of the VIP pass? Who am I kidding, it probably makes a tonne of money for them

A very neat summary of everything that is wrong with modern videogaming.

No rain+night racing? smh.

I would to know the budget for this game each year. Adding the bare minimum is an understatement.

I was disappointed in Forza's E3 showing too. Don't get me wrong, I loved what I saw, but that's the game I had waited for, and it fell over in a blink.

The pass is $20 if you buy it separately.

If you want it, I think the digital Ultimate Edition is the better way to go. The physical Limited Edition may be a good option too, but it hasn't been announced yet.

An FM6 pass may get you a discount on the FH3 pass, but I don't think it'll work the other way.

It's a design choice for 1080p at 60 fps locked. Maybe if the hardware wasn't gimped at launch so MS could include a fucking Kinect.

To those complaining about the time spent on stage with the game, if you go watch the other Forza stage presentations, they are all about 3 mins long with the exception of 3 and 5. In 3's case there was a ton of filler with a video about artist and a second cg trailer, and 5 had a long Forza vista section followed by a drivatar section. They are all basically the same length when you cut out the filler.

The hood reflections, anyone else noticing something off about them? It seems to be reflecting 100% of the front view of the car. Shouldn't it be reflecting mostly sky?

It really stood out to me, where is the camera located exactly to make this weird angle happen?

Any discussion about Forzatech yet? It's a buzzword that was being thrown around pre-E3 but I haven't heard much about it since. Is it a brand new physics engine, rendering engine, or what?

Just watched the ign stage demo and John Wendal described it as the technology pipeline that they share between turn10 and playground games.

Hold your phone out in front of you, tilt it forward slightly, do you see a reflection of your ceiling or your wall/tv/computer screen?

That's not how reflections work. Get a hand mirror out in front of you on a similar angle.

Tried it, these two are right.

We must take it a step further ahead gentlemen.

Place your phone on your car dashboard (with your hood visible in the camera app) and record while driving in wet condition.

Really baffling. I mean, it's 2015, come the fuck on now. While I could excuse the rather barebones Forza 5 due to it being a launch title, I expected Forza 6 to be the "definitive" Forza but the lack of dynamic rain, dynamic TOD, rain + night racing and pit stops in a 2015 racing game is just disappointing.

Guess their data from previous Forzas shows all people do is drive 3 laps and they have tailored the game to these folks accordingly.

If I'm already a VIP for FM5 and FH2 do you need to buy VIP again for FM6 or does it carry over?

Also time to start grinding out some forza tiers, should be able to hit another one by the time this launches

I really can't wait for this game, the Ultimate Edition is stuck in my download queue with 'Pre-ordered' written on it. Such a tease.

Can one of you lovely people whack me a white 10-year Forza badge on my avatar please? :D

The best thing about the Forza series? It's fucking rock solid. Bullet proof 60 fps. Zero bugs. Can't fucking wait for a consistent racing experience.

:/

Zero bugs? It may have been patched now but I had some really distorted audio in FM5 when I first played it. Had my Xbone about a year.

For me it's the worst Forza.

Had it since day 1, no audio issues. Only issue with the game is that it's light on cars and tracks, and the payment model for painters and tuners was beyond stupid. It has the best handeling model in the franchise's history.

I still get the audio issues myself. It only happens if I'm playing for a long time but it's pretty consistent. Sound either cuts in and out or there's a weird crackling distortion.

I have issues in FH2 as well. It often crashes when I first boot it and I have this audio issue too.

I'm not overly bothered by any of those problems but the Forza games aren't as bug free as some would suggest.

Chill. The fact that they have such impressive weather effects running at 1080p60 without hitches and drops is pretty impressive, as even a high powered pc struggles with stuttering during dynamic conditions in PCARs. Play Horizon if you want to drive around in a thunderstorm at night, because compromising your framerate for a single bullet point like that is not worth it in a sim.

Yep, agreed.

Also, I don't know nearly enough about it but wouldn't something like LeMans be red flagged if it was dumping rain at night time? Doesn't seem like a very common thing in motorsport so I understand their choice not to include it. Horizon 2 and Driveclub are different stories, obviously.

You are right, recent Forza games, starting with 3(?), have had audio bugs. Sorry, mostly bug free.

Still, compared to other racers, its quite solid in all aspects and I commend them on that. I'm currently beyound frustrated with another racer at the moment.

Really, really saddened that rain and night are only on specific tracks. They better have rain on the Nordschleife and Rio. Oh well.

A very neat summary of everything that is wrong with modern videogaming.

In a game with 450 base cars, this is a hollow criticism. I feel like this model isn't punishing people buying the core game unless they're aggressive completionists, at which point that's on them.

I'd say that huge 3d puddles are a bullet point not worth in sims because like I've mentioned before, in most motorsports they'd be considered hazards, and would cause flags or even interruption if they had a quick formation (because it would mean heavy rain).

But it's easy to understand them as not as taxing to an engine like dynamic time or weather effects since most sims avoid one or both of those anyway.

Forza isn't trying to simulate real motorsports but rather just racing a large variety of cars. 3d puddles, for Forza, fits in and is definitely a bullet point

How many other AAA games, let alone racing games, on any console are locked 1080p and 60 fps locked? That's right... Forza 5 and Forza 6 are the only ones.

I Cant find a HQ version?

I see, I'd compare it to visual damage modelling, it adds to the spectacle even if it doesn't precisely fit to racing norms and that's always a bullet point.

You are correct, but that happens with near every game because it's a good cost/function over precision.

In a lot of settings, the PS1-era solution Gran Turismo used for its rear window reflections is actually pretty close to how it should look, which I always find interesting. It's sort of like how Forza 5/Horizon 2 reflect the driver's hands and steering column on the windshield from the in-car view in a way that looks great, but at an angle that wouldn't generally show it. I actually like that sort of stagecraft most of the time. I guess "I like it until I don't."

Agree. This is quite an accomplishment.
