Bloodborne Load Times are Getting Patched. Along with other performance optimisations

fun game, enjoying it, but the load times are inexcusable. if they CAN fix it, they should have delayed the game and fixed it. nuff said

I really, really hope they add something for the load screens.

Even if they're becoming shorter, they are criminally empty. What happened to concept art? Or item descriptions? Or anything?

Presentation matters, even if people think it's one dumb, small thing.

I'm about 20 hours in, and got to a new area where the load time after dying is about 10 seconds. It really makes me dread having to go back to the old areas.

I doubt they could have delayed the game any further. Sony FY ends next week, delaying a game into a new financial year generally leads to very angry investors who are going to claim they were mislead about the strength of that year on the back of announced products.

I wouldn't mind a better loading screen. Something like character introductions like demons souls has. Big old "Bloodborne" in my face for ten minutes after dying is just obnoxious.

I appreciate what you're saying, but on the other hand I sort of like the bold Bloodborne logo on a plain black background.

I've heard a lot of negativity about this and after playing the game for 6hrs, I can finally form my own opinion on it.

I quite like it here. The context from the opening scene is that you're never quite sure if the whole game is a dream or not. The CA adds a certain ethereal quality to the whole game. I understand if some people don't like the effect fullstop, but I acknowledge what From is trying to accomplish with it and I think it works well enough.

I haven't played the game, but generally, the inclusion of Chromatic Abberation is a part of the industry-wide desire/attempt to be "cinematic", as CA is a lens artifact that can be seen in photos/video. It is highly dependent on the lens, however, and is regarded as an artifact (that is, a bad thing) in photo/video imagery. Most modern lens have little CA, or at least not to the exaggerated levels that game designers employ.

I don't think it has anything to do with an ethereal quality--it's more of a (misguided, IMO) attempt to emulate movies/video.

The frame pacing issue is totally killing the smoothness of this game. It feels so fucked up at all times.
I'm really sensitive to this stuff and it's bumming me out. I've been getting audio stutters too.

I'm the same. I don't mind 30fps if it's done right, but I'm really sensitive to stuttering and it is killing my enjoyment of the game :(

I boxed up my PS4 in preparation for moving into a new apartment next month. I'd felt some disappointment about not being able to jump on Bloodborne immediately, but now I'll happily hold out for this patch—and a price drop too, knowing how quickly games fall in value these days. Hope that the loading times can be decreased and the framerate addressed to a measurable extent. It's good that it's being worked on, but the ongoing trend of "release it sorta broken and fix it if the bitching is loud enough" continues to hamper this generation of consoles for me.

Loving the game so far but...

Has anyone tried playing coop yet? With all this talk about framepacing and framerate, i've yet to see someone mention just how bad the framerate/framepacing/frame-whatever gets when you get summoned. And it gets way worse if there are 2 phantoms summoned.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

I need them to fix the gah damn blood spots. At first I thought I just needed the bell to view peoples phantoms, turns out the mechanic only works in The Dream. Part of the experience in a souls game is watching how a player died or seeing some dumbass roll off a ledge to their death and get a bit of a chuckle before getting your ass beat.

That's disapointing, as I was planning to play this with a friend eventually.

Really hoping by then it's somewhat better.

please lord patch in a toggle for CA. It's legitimately shit in this game. Horrid smearing and destruction of any detail around the extremities of the screen. Strains my eyes, too.

I'll challenge this. Nothing about the game is screams hollywood or cinematic experience. There's clearly a link between what the player perceives to be the "real world" and the hunter's "dream world" that is used as a hub area. I think the PR even focused on the nightmare theme of the game. You should play the game or watch a video from the beginning before you try to predict what the developer's intentions were.

~40 second load times on death, and really long in general. I feel like I'm playing a PSX game off a CD at times. Framerate drops into the teens when playing with a co-op partner and is all over the place in general. And yeah, blood stain specters do not work. Some serious technical issues.

Unplayable? You don't "play" the loading screens. Sure, they absolutely could be far, far better, but if you can't wait 30-40 seconds between deaths, I think the bigger issue is with you. And that's coming from someone who completed all three souls games many times.

You did use the word unplayable, didn't you?

Load times tend to be unplayable by tradition.

I have no idea how you got this from my post.

The game is unplayable because I keep dying and keep having to wait through tedious, 40 second long load screens. If you're offended by the word "unplayable", what I mean is "tough to play" or "tedious to the point where I don't want to play the game anymore".

I haven't been annoyed by any frame rate issues so far. I did play through all the Souls games on console, so I'm kinda used to that stuff by now. The load times, though? That's a killer.

Part of me believes it's a deliberate choice to litter Twitch thumbnails with a full-screen, clear as day logo, because of how often players die.

For me, I can justify long load times as punishment for death. I'm much more concerned about the frame-pacing problems that Digital Foundry reported on the other day.

Im really getting tired of this trend where you release something and then proceed to fix it in the next months. I also don't think this is one of those times where you go "oh well". Issues like frame pacing are really crucial for this game.

uh.....was just about to pick this up digitally (2x Ps4) just for the coop....

Maybe its wise to wait a week or 2 if coop is bad at moment

Might hold off on playing again if this is coming soon.

I'm glad it isn't out here yet.

G7X8

it's not that serious.

Long loadtimes upon death for a game known for its difficulty seems like a huge oversight. At times it makes me want to stop playing. I'm fine with dying but the waiting, damn.

Is this what makes it look blurry at times?

Yes. That's the worst thing about CA. It messes with my eyes. Lords of the Fallen, I couldn't play it more than an hour pre patch. Constantly felt like my eyes were tearing up. Easily the worst "artistic" trend anyone ever came up with in gaming.

Seems I was right not buying it day one. Basically these days you buy an incompleted game if you purchase it in stores at release. I'll wait a month and get the better version.

I thought I wouldn't mind the CA at all, but I just started the game and the aliasing on the fences combined with the chromatic aberration result in a horrible looking mess. And the stutter is noticeable too.

They better work on these things.

I was surprised at how ugly the game looks. I love the art style. But the game itself is just pure ugly. I think I'm going to shelve it for a month or so and see what gets patched. The frame issue is just unacceptable imo. How does that make it into the golden release?

I second that!

Good to see this is a known issue. They worked when I started, but after a few hours, when I press X over a blood spectre, the tombstone comes up, but goes back down immediately.

I actually noticed this as well. I thought I just wasn't looking in the right direction when I would click on the bloodstain, but would see nothing.
