Bloodborne Load Times are Getting Patched. Along with other performance optimisations

Ive played the game for hours and thats my only complaint. I die alot lol. Its like the game is mocking me when i have to stare at the loading screen. Have no other complaints with it.
 
What is all this frame pacing/timing jargon. Don't we just call it stuttering? Or is this different?

Not quite. There are still the right number of unique frames in a given span of time that the average framerate is 30, so the game is keeping up just fine. The problem is that some frames stay onscreen the wrong amount of time.

Both of these have 5 unique frames in 10/60ths of a second.



Some games do intentionally tear when they start to drop frames. It's actually not a bad strategy if it's implemented well.

Improper frame pacing, on the other hand, is an actual bug.
 
Load times could be better.
Chromatic aberration doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, but it'd be nice to see the game without it.
Frame pacing issues aren't as frequent as I thought they'd be. It's not a constant stutter, but it'd be nice to have the occasional hiccups fixed.

I was kind of disappointed by the technical impressions, but it's honestly not that bad now that I've gotten my hands on it and played a bit. I was looking for all the issues as I played, but none were so prominent as to detract from my enjoyment. To me, a performance patch seems like the icing on the cake, not a necessity. Still glad From's doing it!
 
Only issue I've noticed thus far is the load times. I haven't noticed any frame rate, frame timing, or stuttering and I think I have a pretty keen eye for these types of issues. Maybe I need to play a little more.
 
I'll play the game on Saturday and will try to find a good explanation for that design decision that maybe doesn't come across in these posts. I generally have a lot of respect for the designers at From so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until I see for myself.

The inconvenience of having to warp to Majula and back to level up in DS2 was already criticised by many and it was only tolerable for me because it literally only took two seconds to load (on PC). Baffling stuff.

What's also baffling is that they somewhat changed how bonfires work. They don't respawn enemies as soon as you rest at them. You have to travel back to the hub world and then travel back again via said bonfires, essentially making you sit through two load screens for no reason.
Now to add to that, with the way they reworked the health system you are almost forced to farm a little for Bloodvials from time to time if you are really stuck at a boss. So yeah, that shit can get really aggravating.

Yeah I could go for just single lines, like the notes you find in the world. Not so much "tips" as just cryptic pieces of information that paint more of a picture about the lore of the world.
 
Ok so... You have to load screen to go back to hunter world, level up / repair, then go back to real world with another loading time... Then you die.

This is making the whole thing obnoxious at this point.
 
Awesome. If they fix load times and frame pacing.. that would both be huge improvements
 
Unplayable? You don't "play" the loading screens. Sure, they absolutely could be far, far better, but if you can't wait 30-40 seconds between deaths, I think the bigger issue is with you. And that's coming from someone who completed all three souls games many times.

I totally see where he's coming from. I'm used to playing these games on PC, where they load so fast that there isn't even enough time to read the sentence that they put on the screen describing whatever random item is featured. Going from that to, what, almost a minute (?) is jarring. And boring.

And yeah, he didn't say that the loading screens are unplayable. He said "It's unplayable for me with these load times." Clearly "it" is "the game," not "the loading screens."
 
As this is a Sony exclusive, and the game has got so high praise amongst reviewers, i think its very high up on Sonys list to fix this. Fast.

I would be quite interested in seeing their framework/chain/strategy from that they aknowledged the problem, up until the patch is deployed and the game is improved/fixed.

In the longer term perspective of things, this is just good for the business. Developers and companies know that information travels fast these days. Consumers are more demanding and vocal that ever, and you need to deliver a good and smooth experience from day 1.
 
I have to say, the load times are pretty brutal. Can't wait for an improvement for that.

I was expecting something much worse from the frame pacing though. I honestly haven't noticed it to any degree that it's bothered me. Perhaps if it's fixed I'll feel the difference.
 
It would be nice if the frame pacing was fixed, but I'm guessing that's one of those things where the vast majority of people don't notice or care.

The load times affect everyone, constantly. Fix that shit first. I actually get mad when I die quickly now, whereas in previous Souls games I could just laugh at myself. I avoid warping unless it's absolutely necessary.

But I think the real killer is that, while I'm enjoying the game immensely, the experience is punctuated, regularly, with negative feelings about how the game is disrespecting my very limited time. That's not the form of frustration I signed up for.

The framepacing problems will be fixed it's the loading times that I am skeptical about. It seems like one of the immediate solutions for people right now is to get an SSD or 7200rpm drive. However maybe they can just optimize the amount being loaded before players are allowed to play again because it seems like right now they make you wait until the entire area is reloaded.
 
I only played for 45 minutes or so last night and unfortunately I am a bit disappointed from a technical point of view. Why are there loading times when you die and respawn in the same area? Why is the map reloaded from disc eve if you die just few seconds from the spawning point? Isn't the map already loaded in RAM?

I also find the frame rate to be hindering my enjoyment of the game. I'm fine with 30fps, but I was hoping for a more consistent, smoother experience. As it stands, I find the constant stuttering, even when there are no enemies on the screen, very annoying.

I hope that the upcoming patch fixes both the frame pacing as well and the loading times, because as much as I like the game, I'm not sure I would be able to play through it in its current state.
 
The load times are only really noticeable to me when I want to get transported back to The Hunter's Dream to reach another location since there's no way to teleport from lantern to lantern (or set an active lantern without reviving back to one). That can get frustrating.
 
I'm not trying to excuse them, but I really hate the way the word unplayable is tossed around nowadays. Especially when the issue in question doesn't interfere with the actual gameplay in the first place.
I agree with some of your post. Unplayable is tossed around way way too much. However, load times do interfere with gameplay.
 
If they can actually do anything about it, then great!

I didn't really notice it the first few times. I would look away to my laptop after a death, but them I would look back a solid minute later and realize 'oh hell, it's still loading'

Kind of sucks based on how much I am dying.
 
Maybe it's a good thing I can't play such an amazing looking game yet. At the very least I'll be able to experience it with better optimization and loading times.

The loading is noticeable, but the frame pacing is the most noticeable for me. Sprinting through central yarnham for example is extremely janky. I havent noticed any actual framerate "slowdown" just a general "jankiness" in the flow of the image. It's not horrible, but it's there and I sure hope it gets patched.

Mine got a lot better after I rebuilt the PS4 database, and I'm surprised that hasn't been mentioned in this thread anywhere.
 
I wish they could remove the chromatic aberration.
I've heard a lot of negativity about this and after playing the game for 6hrs, I can finally form my own opinion on it.

I quite like it here. The context from the opening scene is that you're never quite sure if the whole game is a dream or not. The CA adds a certain ethereal quality to the whole game. I understand if some people don't like the effect fullstop, but I acknowledge what From is trying to accomplish with it and I think it works well enough.
 
The frame pacing issue is totally killing the smoothness of this game. It feels so fucked up at all times.
I'm really sensitive to this stuff and it's bumming me out. I've been getting audio stutters too.
