Bloodborne Press Preview Impressions (16/03/2015)

Sounds like you're setting yourself up for failure there. Both those characteristics have been endemic to Souls titles.

I know that though. I have Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, having beaten neither but I'm not done with those games either. Hopefully I will get sucked into the world and atmosphere and be up for the challenge.

What ps4 exclusives do you think were scored unfairly?

DriveClub is the greatest low 70's meta game ever made.

Agree with this.
DriveClub is fantastic and immense fun.

Damn @ 7pm PT. Tomorrow will have the OT and review thread madness all in one day. Would have been nice to have the review madness over with today so tomorrow could be OT day.

It's getting to the point where I no longer expect PS4 exclusives to score well. They've all been trashed so bad since the console launched (aside from a few indie titles) that these days I just expect the hate to pile up from the usual suspects.

If I could put my tinfoil hat back on, it's sad that I truly believe had Bloodborne been multiplat, it would score higher than as a PS4 exclusive. This is some alternate universe bullshit of course, but it's just the way this gen seems to be going. But yet somehow PS4 hardware remains this unstoppable train lol.

/Tinfoil hat off. I hope this scores well. 85-90 average would be fair, 90+ being a modern day miracle.

There has been no unfair bashing. All of them either sucked or were, at best, mediocre.

Anyone in the UK order from Simplygames? Never used them before, hope they get my copy to me quickly!

I'm still waiting for a sub 40 price before I purchase but I don't see this changing in the next 24 hours. My personal deadline is tomorrow at 5pm before I go for whatever is the cheapest which at this moment is gamecollection at £43 :/

I ordered it a few weeks back and at the time it was £42 which aint bad I guess. I dunno, I just didn't know what to do. I really would prefer to have a physical copy, but the US preorder is telling me otherwise!

Some of the conclusions made by those statements are a bit farfetched for previews so I was wondering.

The Edge quote is after they spent 40+ hours with it. So, while it's technically not from their review, it's at least a conclusion that's unlikely to change.

I Pre-ordered from the game collection for £35 delivered - with a promo code.

I have to agree. Infamous got a generous 80. Driveclub was broken at launch and deserved to get panned. Knack and Killzone were both mediocre. The Order was very misguided and was absolutely begging for bad reviews.

Driveclub was not criticized for online problems anyway. The game was ok before D1.

Overall, I think meta averages have been pretty fair, and probably more or less reflect the quality. That's what I meant by I'm getting used to/expecting them to score lower. I found some of the Little Big Planet 3 scores particularly unfair, considering many of the complaints were regarding bugs, which can be fixed. Reviewers in general were much more lenient with a game like Halo: MCC which is still broken to this day. Edit: And I forgot about Driveclub, which got completely bashed for it's launch problems, while other games on rival consoles for the most part got a pass.

But overall certain publications have been overly harsh towards Playstation exclusive games. I won't name them- they should be fairly obvious.

Now months away from release, there's still not enough here to suggest that Bloodborne will entice newcomers or casuals. But that's hardly From Software's intention in the first place. This is a studio at the peak of its confidence, fully aware of who its fans are and what they want. For those blessed souls, Bloodborne is a gift from the gods.

Gamespot Preview from december

They quoted Gamespot quite missleading

A lot of the DC reviews didn't cover the online issues because online was fine pre launch. But there was a lot of BS about the handling being ba, it not being open world or having a racing line.

I have enjoyed my PS4 fine up until now, but tonight is the first big reason why I feel like I have to own the system. I am certain this will easily be the best game of the new generation so far. At least for me, anyway.

The "not open world" comments were definitely stupid. That said, it was a niche game that was a bit low on content at launch. I don't find the score too surprising.

Relax dude. Yes, it’s an established fact that there is fanboyism within game journos (ex. Gies), but they are too few and far between to drastically skew a game’s overall score. If anything its the clickbait reviews that do more damage.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Not many outlets re-reviewed it. It was pretty bad at launch. Master Chief Collection didn't get many re-reviews either so it's not a conspiracy.

To be fair MCC got off easy. Outlets shouldn't have been so trigger happy and waited it out on launch to judge that mess for what it really was.

I'll try to be active in the review thread tonight to answer any in-depth questions you guys may have before the game drops at midnight. I won't be writing the review this time around, but I will have a guide ready to go tonight on USgamer.
