I wished I lived in that world too. All I know is if Pillars doesn't put up at least D:OS numbers I will be disappointed in humanity.
I feel like theres going to be 3 possible scenarios
1) Game comes out, word of mouth spreads people realise holy shit this is amazing
2) Game goes on steam sale then 1) happens
3) A youtuber promotes it and boosts popularity
I did not preorder yet because I hope there will be some deals on GMG or other sites coming around closer to release. If not, then I'll pay the 40~ gladly though.

Looking at the Kickstarter page it looks like you get equivalent to hero edition

Look under your orders, it tells you. Mine says DRM freem copy.
So does mine but im looking through the updates right now and they say you will get the choice of a steam or drm free version if im a digital backer so that should confirm it.

DRM free is actually a GoG key also i think, not just direct download. What i dont know is if we get both. The wording sounds like i think they do.

Jesse Cox did some streams yonks ago, however the youtube videos of said streams have such shitty audio I can't really watch them
I still love that Jesse Cox played the beta of divinity in front of the developers, kills a cow and the developers go "THAT WAS A QUEST GIVER" and then they redesigned the game to accommodate the potential that players would be murder hobos
