Not sure how I feel about attributes in this game so far. having kind of universal effects from them like might affecting all damage or int effecting all duration time and aoe across all classes sounds really cool but wouldn't that make for a lot of pretty similar builds? I'm not in the bb so I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Actually the opposite. It's a pretty dam good system at the moment. You shouldn't really pay attention to the "name" of the attribute. You might be thinking, intellect on a Barbarian da fuq? But in actuality, intellect is quite good on a Barbarian and you can increase the AoE of his passive Carnage attacks which do more AoE damage around your primary target essentially.

If you want a tanky-orientated fighter, sacrifice some might for resolve and more constitution, but if you want a DPS-orientated fighter, pump that might.

It's a flexible attribute system and you can make a lot of interesting nuanced builds by maxing a few of the attributes. None of the attributes are dump stats because you will get some hefty penalties if you take out all the points of said attribute. Focusing on 3-4 attributes can really hone your specific class build. You can definitely make your typical ranged wizard, but can also make a "muscle" wizard (melee wizard) by allocating your points differently. No build is bad, and you can't make a gimped build that will hinder your progress throughout the game.

I'm thinking about preordering the game and if it's true what you say that's great news for me, I hate to play rpg with the constant fear of having a "bad build" that prevents me to finish the game without problems

I prefer having nice chats on the subway with dragons. Fighting them is so cliche.

Does the devs has something against dragons? Every single dragons you encountered in their previous games in BG series and IW series, dragons were all villains you had to kill them.

There was that friendly silver dragon in BG2.

Blame WotC for making all the chromatic ones evil and the metallic ones weird shape shifters.

Maybe it got better in ToB?

MR definitely mattered more (just like physical damage reductions) as saving throws and AC struggled to catch up, but it was never a gamebreaker like the Robe of Vecna, Praised Be His Name. I really did get it just to get it, lol.

I thought it might be upgradeable by Cespenar, but nope.

In a not-quite-the-same vein as TrueMenace, here's a test video about Damage Calculation in Pillars of Eternity.

It's a test video because it's unscripted and I didn't talk about proc damage and the recovery time formulas are incorrect (correct info posted in the video descriptions)

Awesome, will listen to this later today. Always learning more about the game from you!

I won't be able to watch the stream but they usually archive the their streams.

Twitch will have an archive of it and and Paradox is VERY GOOD at having these videos up within the day on their YouTube channel. Don't you worry :)

EDIT: Stream is on!

Interesting post:
I would like to point out that Obsidian has spent a good deal of its own money and resources in developing PoE. I can understand that some people may feel the game is not worth what we are charging, but trust me when I say that this game has a lot of content in it. Lots more than many AAA titles I have worked on.

I would also like to point out that the price of a game is not always tied to development cost. As an example, Star Wars: The Old Republic cost $200 million dollars to develop, but when I purchased it, it was the same price as any other AAA PC game at the time. I am not sure how much the latest Dragon Age cost to develop, but it was probably significantly less. They are selling the game for $60... even more than I paid for SW:TOR. I realize that SW:TOR was likely relying on monthly payments to recoup cost, but it also has massive ongoing costs of a live team and many servers to upkeep. The case I just mentioned shows that sometimes it doesn't matter how much it cost to develop something, companies will only charge what they think people will pay for their game.

I did not know they used their own money on PoE development, but I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise with the delays. Kickstarter funds weren't going to fund the game forever.

I still roll my eyes about people complaining about price for games that aren't 3D games with the latest graphical mumbo jumbo. If someone buys this and doesn't like it, I am more willing to accept complaints about price.

Shitbot is still a better name.

They could name them Kiki Dee, Buttplug From Mars and it'd be fine. Just having a class with healing abilities is a welcome return to sanity after dealing with Dragon Age:Inquisition's forced lack of healing spells.

Shitbot was a character from the new Dreamfall game, was just joking.

I'm never going to complete this game. All I'm going to do is spend half an hour on every single screen looking at all the detail in the backgrounds.

I realize this is kind of the point, but holy cow does that game give me all the Baldur's Gate feels.

I've played a ton of great games off Kickstarter but I can't think of another one where the finished product so perfectly matched the concept they pitched. Can't wait to play it.
