Pfft that doesn't surprise me at all, I'll never understand how people can sit through poor adaptations like that and still like it so much. Remember the last popular series was Attack on Titan with it's horrendous pacing issues. I guess they just don't know?

Anyway for me I can see the appeal of Tokyo Ghoul easily. By now I'm more invested in it then Attack on Titan as far as mysteries go. Pretty much everything else is better as well like characters and art, I'm not surprised it's the next big thing but it probably will never get as popular as SAO or AoT.

Better mystery than Attack on Titan? I loved the mystery of the titans in the beginning of AoT. If Tokyo Ghouls is better, I should start reading it. I agree with you about the anime for AoT. I couldn't watch it because of how they handled it.

The first episode of Shigeki and Tokyo Ghoul were pretty well done and usually thats enough to make people go to read the manga.

I wish there were Ayato cosplays, best character. And also Takizawa. Tokyo Ghoul √A is so good.

The story for root A is good, has a nice quality to it, even though it got cliche at the latest episode with Kaneki. However, that's just it, the story is good but the animation is amateurish at best, you can tell they had trouble with perspectives and changing angles during battles. It may be more work but hell, if you're gonna do something, you might as well do it right.

The plotlines in Tokyo Ghoul are more interesitng now imo especially with how TG turned into ;Re.

Darkness is great for me since it's all about the better side characters. That and it's a self parody now because of Rito's uncanny ability. It's definitely lewd, but this manga still keeps me interested since I want to see a harem end for Rito.

14-sai no Koi is one. Musune Hiraite is another. Catching up on Taiyou no Ie since that's now done. I was reading Ore Monogatari, but that doesn't get translated much, and I don't think it's licensed in the US yet?

As a standalone it's average, but as a manga adaption it's pretty shit and that's coming from a person who loves this series. But yeah it's truly a mystery on why people can like it sooo much even though it isn't faithful to the source material. I enjoy the anime but I know objectively it isn't that good because it's average if not below.

About Attack on Titan manga, I really loved it in the beginning because of the mystery over Titans and the oppressive atmosphere. But as it went on it started losing some of the good things it had created. I mean I feel it would have been better if Eren didn't turn into a Titan and had kept on going with the survival through wits. Though I guess since it's Shonen it needed to have the character being special in some way with an ability. Maybe it'll get better as it starts focusing on Titans again, probably a slim chance.

As popularity goes I do not believe it will get as popular as SAO or AOT because they are a unique phenomenon. So the popularity for TG right now is fine.
