Was digging through Warpdoor, found some cool games that I'm pretty sure hadn't been posted about yet

Beeswing - £6.00 (PC, Mac, Linux
ZxuP%2Fk.jpg

http://jackspinoza.itch.io/beeswing

Beeswing is a 2D RPG, reminiscent of games like The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Illusion of Gaia, Earthbound, the Mana series and other pre-32 bit RPG games.
This is a game about the people and places that shaped my life.

The Moon Silver - $2.99 (PC)
2fMgyw.png

http://ironsnowflakes.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html

The Moon Sliver is a short narrative-focused non-linear exploration game, with elements of horror. It features a unique narrative mechanic that blurs the line between story and exploration, where interacting with objects and even simply moving around will reveal fragments of narration. As you piece these fragments together, a story of guilt, loneliness, and faith begins to take shape. And it becomes increasingly obvious that something is hunting you...

Sanctuary - Free (PC, Mac, Linux)

Touch the three guardian stones to unseal the Sanctuary's door.

Gallergy - Free (PC)

VIDdEO - Free (PC, Mac)
xvXcrfy.jpg

http://gamejolt.com/games/adventure/viddeo/31024/

You are combing through security footage to find out what has taken place in a hotel. However, the result is not clear. The perceived reality of the footage is blending into your own reality. You find yourself inside and outside the media discovering the tapes in the very place you are watching. Identities are disapearing, context is no longer existing. Nothing is sacred anymore, and you are constantly feeling dread and unawareness.

Demon Extermination Squadron - Free (PC)
j4bAas.png

Demon Extermination Squadron is an interesting and unique blend of strategy and action! Combining elements of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Nuclear Throne, this rogue-like game is both nail-bitingly tough and hard to put down! Control four characters through sixteen randomly generated levels, fighting enemies and seeking out upgrades!

Just Get Through isnt to bad actually

At first i thought the jump mechanic was going to be really annoying(game breaking so)

but you get used to it and you do get upgrades that help

The controls could do with getting tweaked a little tbh it feels like smb(pc) but you can feel a little out of control at times especially when throwing dynamite.

If you get a chance to get it i would recommend giving it a go.

(oh avoid yury btw it's controls/game mechanics are awful)

That good?

Its not a mind shattering experience, but its one of those games that deserves to be celebrated for being different and focussing mainly on player curiosity. Its the closest a game I ever played came to an ecosystem simulator and its pretty terrific at being that. You need to explore the different plants and animals and how they work with each other and then try to work on building a sustainable ecosystem. Its really something entirely different from the mold (ha, fungus joke) of most games and is a great example of the hidden gems that this thread series strives to search for.

Deserves your money, guys. Also, its a nice thing to have run in the background, like a more intricate "Mountain".

Edit: Also its only 4$ OR the pay by art thing, which is awesome and support-worthy in and of itself.

Played for 2-3 hours now. My currently best state (its not a "run" as the game never ends, you just add more stuff again and watch it grow):
2QhXa24.png

The biomass is the amount of plants/bugs that you were able to have simultaneously in your "garden", while the diversity shows how many different elements you currently have.

It was a pretty neat run, but then I noticed too late that my Mantis were about to extinct all my Grubs. Since there was too many Mantis for a while, i couldnt repopulate the world without any new bug being eaten by a horde of hungry Mantis, so I needed to wait until they died too, and then started repopulationg the world with a harmless fungi eater, while trying to add more diversity to my plant life.

Also, neat little short term goals: You need to get any animal to survive for 5000 "ages", to unlock its database entry, which gives you some hints on their behaviour and how to best make an environment for them.

So yeah, thumbs up. Very cool game that does a LOT of things differently and is great for it.

I played the War for the Overworld beta for the first time in ages. It's actually looking like an excellent Dungeon Keeper revival! It runs so much nicer than it did before and it's great to see the new UI and art. Sound is a billion times better too!

My only complaint is that the mouse input is a little screwy at high resolutions. Needs a sensitivity option for zooming and rotating the camera.

Good to see some Earthtongue love in here. Hope it's not in Greenlight Hell for too long, but the dev seems very happy with it's suscess so far too

More OP impressions:

Echoes+

Super fun Asteroids inspired Twinstickshooter. I was a bit bewildered at first that moving the mouse wont let you aim, but instead moves the ship while you aim with the keyboard, but I got to admit, that it works surprisingly well and actually makes the game stand out. Its highscore focussed and comes with several modes, but I really like some sort of campaign progression in these games with different enemy setups, weapon types, stage hazards and whatnot, which this doesnt have. But I need to get to grips with that :p The core mechanics are very polished and the gameplay is fun and its a very concise shooter experience, definitely recommended to check out.

Elders of Madness

Very unforgiving classic shmup that tasks you to learn the enemy patterns and level progression. Technically very well made. I like the simple art style, the enemy variety and challenge, however 3 issues really soured me on this game: I cant remap controls from z to y (european keyboard), I cant hold down z to shoot repeatedly (which is just annoying) and the movement of the ship doesnt seem to be nailed down. Sometimes the hitbox seems a bit off, and sometimes its impossible to outmaneuver an enemy even if he is still far away because of how sluggish the ship controls. Especially after playing it right after the excellently polished Echoes+, this doesnt compare very favourably.

Forward to the Sky

3D action platform/brawler, with simple controls and puzzle elements. I really like what they did with the overall artstyle, just walking through the level and watching the structures in the distance is very pleasing. However the combat is too simple, the enemies a bit boring and the level design is playing it a bit too safe as well. Not bad, but not all that recommendable for me either.

Haemo
Very cool little game. I love the concept of filling out the world with ink/colour and then using that to navigate. Very reminiscent of Unfinished Swan (which I loved), but with rather challenging combat. Definitely needs a bit of getting used to, but great little game that already has some splendid ideas (like an enemy that can clean up your color). The only downside is that I'd really love it to be expanded to a more complex game, more levels, different level setups, more items/ink abilities, etc. Still, fun game and well done execution in its own right.

Infinifactory:
Dont think I need to add much more to this, but yeah, after finishing it, I can say its easily a GOTY list candidate.

io
Has a free demo on Steam (and currently 50% off for 3-4 bucks) and is totally worth checking out. Its a puzzle platformer, but easily one of the better ones of the recent past, polished AND interesting enough to get into my highly recommended category even. The basic mechanic revolves around growing and shrinking your ball, and how that affects mass, momentum and some other aspects that are very cleverly used in the levels. Swirling around the level is very satisfying and its generally really pleasant to play and solve. Definitely check this out as well.

Just Get Through:

I agree with Titch on this one, initially the walljumping seems broken, then you get used to it (but its still highly annoying). Sometimes the level design is outright stupid, but the simple level up/skill hook and the levels that keep you on your toes all the time are surprisingly engaging. It started out as a pretty standard game, but then developed its own charme that will likely draw me in again at one point. You can grab it in a bundle with 7 other smaller Steam Indies for 2,50 here: http://www.bundlestars.com/

I was the first to bring it up last month =p. Great game, though the final goal of max biodiversity is pretty extreme. For some reason since my first play session I've had terrible luck and can't get over 10 biodiversity actually--looking forward to the new changes and the possibility of some sort of "easy mode". The dev brought up that he was thinking about something like that when I mentioned the difficulty.

I feel like you can say that about every Linssen game. His game are always so good and interesting and have so much potential to be even better. He did it with The Sun & Moon, hopefully he revisits more of his games

And nice to see you enjoyed iO. For a while I was one of the few people who had played it outside of the devs, and I thought it was great so it's good to see I'm not the only one.

I actually would like more complexity (as with everything I play). Give me more plants! More bugs! More everything!

My current run is at 13 diversity, but the 2 achievements before seem to be bugged. Pretty sure I was aat 7+ diversity etc for over 7000 years.

Yes, that's already planned. My problem is the difficulty makes attaining/keeping complexity hard. Though it might have been updated to be a bit more sensible--I played the very first release version and haven't updated yet. There's also going to be more visual indicators of things like rain, spores. There's a few carnivorous fungi planned too

Are you on the latest version? I found a few unlocks were bugged but told the dev and I think they're first in latest.

Most original IP I've seen on this thread.

Shelter isnt even close to being the "most original" IP in this thread in my opinion. Though I need to admit I wasnt a huge fan of Shelter 1 to begin with. But still, it was a very limited stealth adventure, with not much going on in terms of mechanics. As for 2, thats hard to judge atm, but I am definitely more interested as it seems to be less restricted which was my major gripe with 1.

Albino Lullaby - Spring 2015 (PC)
HighresScreenshot00084.jpg

A horror exploration game that doesn't rely on jump scares or gore. Escape from a dark and surreal Victorian town that clings to the precipices of underground cliffs, while comically creepy monsters give chase.

Hopefully this isn't a repost, but I just saw this and think it looks really promising. Screenshots don't work as well as the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggSd6GEJAAs

Albino Lullaby - Spring 2015 (PC)

Very mixed about that one. On one hand I adore the very weird and disturbing imagery in this game but on the other episodic games are very tricky to do well and the overall project has quite a big monetary investment in relation to other indie games. Think this might have to be one that I wait to see how it all rolls out before I dig in.

Nope, you're good. I had posted about it in the Kickstarter thread last year, but never in these threads. The KS just barely made it too, $25,126 of a $25,000 goal
Hmm, that's kind of worrying. Going off a lot of other Kickstarters, usually the money asked falls quite a bit from what is actually needed (inb4 Broken Age bashing).

Still, I'm really hoping this can come together. It kind of reminds me of a Double Fine game, but way darker than anything they'd ever do.

Walkerman - Free demo (PC, Mac)
screen1_full.jpeg

http://scalemail.com/walkerman.htm

Walkerman is an Adventure Game/Visual Novel made in the Ren'Py engine. It features a non-linear story, puzzle-based gameplay, and multiple endings.
Each act of Walkerman revolves around a single foe, and the process of investigating it. Unlike most heroes, walkermen do not stand a chance against their enemies in toe-to-toe combat. In order to defeat these creatures, walkermen must exploit their one weakness: their 'rules'.
Early in the game, the creatures Jorgen encounters will be quite simple, with easily distinguishable rules. As the game progresses however, the enemies get more complex. Jorgen can spend up to two in-game weeks investigating a single enemy. Most rules revolve around the usage of items, which Jorgen collects over the course of his investigations.

The Last Shore - 2015 (PC)
wJ0yuzo.jpg

http://www.pulpogames.com

This is a moody, beautifully narrated action/adventure game, with handcrafted 2D pixel animations and a mysterious world to explore. You play as a girl whose home is going to be destroyed by the gods. She embarks on an adventure, exploring mysterious islands scattered across the sea. Each island houses one of her "birthrights"; ancient artifacts that will help her continue her quest deeper into this strange world.

Cross-posting from the indie dev thread:

Put out a big update on Steam yesterday. Added some NPCs and a lot of general improvements.

I'd like to ask some advice here. Right now, Malebolgia is in Early Access and it offers about half of the game playable. Would it be a smart idea to make the entire game playable in future updates, or would it be wiser to keep a big portion of content locked until the full store release?

I'm no expert of course, but I think it would be more beneficial to you to make the entire game playable. Thus you can have feedback on the whole thing, beginning to end, before a full store release

I sort of agree with this. Players already paid for the Early Access, so it doesnt hurt to continue getting their feedback. Additionally, small updates and iterations keep some PR flowing up until the release of the game. Unless you notice of course that the feedback you are getting is not worth the effort anymore, but then you should of course be up front with it.

I would third this. Secrets of Raetikon had only half of the game playable during early access and then dropped in the final half on retail release. What ended up happening was a whiplash effect in mood and expectations on the player, which caused the game's ratings to start dropping and many fans wondering what was going on. They did eventually fix it with a patch, but the damage was done.

IMO it would probably be best to make as much of it available as possible to iterate upon with fans.

Alright, the mob has spoken.

I will make everything available during Early Access, then cut content away from the final release and sell it later as DLC.
