Then they announce the real protagonist to be Sho.

So the antagonist is offering the emancipation through the masks? That's what I would think since you need to be true to yourself and not hide behind a mask, or at least that keeps in themes of previous games... but then that would counter the whole "Persona" aspect.

I dunno. I would not mind a return to Persona 2 themes/tones so long as they are done well, written well, with better characters, and better music, and basically all around better since Persona 2 is such a mess of a game.

Yeah, I think they'll get the masks from the antagonist or at least the tip off for how to acquire them will come from the antagonist, who they of course will not immediately recognize as the villain.

That image has me so excited, I really hope we get something substantial for this. I want my HD demons.

Only Atlus could get me to wake up at 4 AM on my birthday. Fingers crossed its not just music.

If it was just music, it would still be awesome. Meguro da Gawd should've been putting in some great work in P5.

When I see stuff like these character rankings, and the yearly Tales one, I always wonder why they don't do them in the west. I'd be really interested to see how they compare.

Oh, masks. They're really going to do the Phantom of the Tokyo Opera thing. This looks promising.

But what I really want to see is some gameplay footage.

In the West, Yosuke would probably not even make the top 10 and Kanji would be either 1 or 2.

Wow his expression is so different from the one he had in the trailer.

Maybe split-personality/true-self only in the other dimesnion?

Remember Yu when he summoned his persona the first time:

Evil smirk doesn't mean much unfortunately. I'm also not convinced that the phantom is the MC because of the different mask from the other poster.

I thought they finally found him a new VA, but it turns out I'm wrong

maybe Philemon will be back instead

You're half right. They changed his VA for whatever reason for P4A:U in the english version (strange, given the old english guy is still fine), but the JP version only reused old lines, as far as I'm aware.

Oh, don't take my comment as a slight against Meguro; I adore the man's work!

I just need to see the game after years of following interviews that boil down to "please wait a little longer".

Kind of seems like a Phantom Thief's calling card.
Like Mask DeMasque or something

And with the "Take your heart." thing from earlier, this guy might be out to steal people's personas.

after playing as a cool protagonist in yu, atlus decides to do a 180 and let players be Tuxedo Mask, a useless piece of shit

Female lead is the real main character.

Your job is to show up and yell puns at her, then leave.

With the masks they might be putting on another face or taking on different personas (no pun intended), so different/split personalities might not be far fetched.

Nah I know what you're saying.

A few characters had to be recast in Ultimax because of scheduling conflicts.

I'd love to see some sort of split personality aspect being tied into the characters summoning their Persona's. Perhaps they would tie in the idea of the other personality vying for control which could be the way of imposing restriction on when you can enter dungeons as using your persona too much could cause the other personality to take over.

I would like it where your "Mask" self is the real person you want to be sort of deal.

Yeah, the fact that here he's wearing the mask is key, it probably changes the characters somehow.
Might be part of the process to summon personas.
They might need the masks to let out their dark side or a suppressed part of their personalities.

They might also be touching on secret societies and clubs being outlets for self-expression as well.

The masks evoke "Eyes Wide Shut", the Jekyll/Hydr theory - the juxtaposition of the two facial expressions - reminds me of "Fight Club".

Igor is probably out, given his Japanese voice actor kinda died. Expect either Marie or Margaret to replace him. Probably Margaret, since Marie is a weatherlady according to the true ending of P4G.

Also I expect some sort of P4 cameo anyway, even if it's something small again. Maybe they'll pull something similar to the school trip thing again, and they go to inaba for a couple of days, for whatever reason. Realistically, it will be nothing more than a few lines of dialogue.

I can't be the only one who finds it weird they don't just recast Igor's voice actor.

I thought cost was more of a factor since several of the voice actors have exploded in popularity since Persona 4.

I haven't gotten a chance to play Persona Q yet (next game on the 3DS after Kirby Triple Deluxe), but are the original actors back for it? Or, is it Golden/Arena's cast?

Disclaimer: I'm only speculating because it's fun. I don't mean to actually assert the story of P5.

But what if, considering they want to focus on a more restrictive society, the concept of Persona in P5 is not used to describe the Jungian "true self" but rather the fake public self you adopt to fit in? Literally putting on a mask.

P5 better have a cameo of Yu walking around like a pimp ;P

But seriously I wonder how big the towns will be? Would be cool to have a car of sorts if we get to explore somewhere else.. But I guess we have scooters for that.

Hmmm.

Well that is an interesting way of looking at it. I recently played through P3P. I had beaten the game 4 times prior. But hadn't touched it in a while. So I went back. And I kind of found the characters had a bit more "drama" going on, with their plot/issues.

P4 approaches character issues all warm and fuzzy. Whereas the P3's issues are lot more sharp/biting. But it's also why I kind of found Junpei and Yukari annoying at times. I'm not sure which game has better "writing". But I find myself liking P4 overall in terms of liking the actual characters.

But I can totally admit that, it's in large part because the game goes down smoother.

Yep, P4 approaches character issues pretty warm and fuzzy but that's in part because of the theme of each game. P3 focuses on resolve and overcoming hardship. P4 is about the truth and acceptance (of one's self usually). Look at how each character gains their their evolved persona in their respective game and you'll see the thread that connects them.

There are a ton of reasons why I really like P3. Yukari and Junpei help a lot on that front but tbh, I could probably write a massive essay on how cohesive and well thought out P3 is in regards to story and character composition. There are issues with it though, Aigis is like the 7 of 9 of Persona. =|

I do wonder if P5 will look as good as Catherine. P5 will be a lot bigger and I'm been so used to P3/4 look that it's hard imagining the game looking like that.
