STEAM | December II 2014 - A thread for people who don't like sale side posters.

I'm having such a difficult time with Dungeon of the Endless, even though I'm experienced at roguelikes and have already picked up the basics. The thing that keeps getting me is the real time combat, I keep trying to hoard my food to the last second before I heal, and dying instead... or I forget to check on an off-screen character. I know I can pause the game whenever, I just never remember to do so when I should.

Game itself is brilliant though.

100%. I thought it was just me. I kept thinking, "Why do I suck so badly? I've played a good number of roguelike and -likes and -lights and -whatevers."

For all of that, I never get the feeling that the game is simply just too difficult. I'm convinced that I just need to recode my thinking to what the game requires. When I do, it's lights out.

I also love the feeling of a deeper lore, in that the game takes place with Endless Space, which I probably won't play, since my time for gaming is a narrow window and the time needed for 4x games is a gaping hole in the wall.

I might have to finally try out a Prototype game.

And how long is Stanley Parable? For some reason I'm still hesitant to spend money on it.

1 is better than 2. Moves and jumps have charge mechanic that instills a feeling of power like in Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Enemy types co-mingle aiding in a more chaotic environment whereas P2 sections them off onto 3 islands.

The removing of charging moves and jumps is what offended me the most about P2

I was about to buy Shadowgate then I remembered that it is most expensive in EU, and if they hate me, I hate them back!
still tempted

edited: maybe someone remembers or knows, I was sure I have a retail Two Worlds 2 drm free, no, not the gog one, but now I can't find it. Could it be I'm mistaken?

Would someone be kind enough to send me an invite to the NeoGAF Steam group? Apologies if there's a better place to request this, the FAQ in the OP didn't spell it out other than another GAF member will need to do it.

Thanks!

I think you need to post a link to your profile.

Steam makes this challenge infinitely more achievable, since you're not limited to console releases. Tons of well-done and short games to get you over the hump. Don't forget about replaying some old favorites, too. Have fun with it! :)
It's still really not achievable for me. I even have a hard time completing shorter games. My interest usually stays for about 1 hour with any game.

I own Endless Space, will play eventually. I don't have time for 4x games nowadays either, but that doesn't mean I don't love them.

I agree the game isn't 'too difficult'. I'm confident I'm solid at the level strategy (build orders, powering rooms)... and then, I'll be on level 3 or something, doing great, with production leveling up, a 3rd character, some good equips, my scientist upping production, a solid selection of rooms all lit up, I'll open a room, and while I'm micromanaging a particularly large attack at my front line my scientist dies even though I thought he'd be safe with his auto-gun support and I didn't think to check up on him. Grrrr. It's not so much 'hard' as... I don't know, I almost wish the game autopaused and alerted you when a new character was attacked so you could go check up on them.

If I could I'd zoom out to see my entire dungeon for most situations, but I don't think you can (past tactical, which isn't the same thing).

Straight forward platformer-on-a-fuse. Most of the tiles you step on have a short half-life before they fade away and take a bit to reappear. Think of some of the more advanced platform levels from Mario games and you get the idea. Gameplay is from an acute-isometric angle and has some floaty physics. Hitboxes on enemies are small and platforming elements seem to have a generous landing zone. You gain different abilities as the levels go on. If I didn't tell you that it was made by a Chinese dev, just watching a brief instance of my LP would quickly highlight that fact. Not that that is a bad thing, it's just a decidedly Chinese game. Overall, it's just a middling precision platformer.

Hashtag Dungeon, Heavy Recoil, Illuminascii & Blood Alloy got greenlit.

Guess we got another big round in today.

I remember when there were always big batches :(

The Groupees Bundle in a Box 2 bundle must've failed hard because the $1 tier also has the $4 tier stuff now.

I somehow missed this before, neat.

Point out any errors or changes needed for the new thread.

You still need to change Gaf's Steam Trading thread to the new one.

Steam locked me out of trying to activate games - I don't know which games I have or don't have (too lazy to check) and Groupees allow you to automatically redeem games now - they just don't tell you when you already have the game.

My groupees library is currently a mess to wade through. Everything's showing up twice.

At least I found a few unactivated games from old greenlight bundles in there.

Plastica took the entire Steam library :D

Eh, it's fine. You could have bought all of those games in the meridan 4 groupees bundle for really cheap if you didn't get them in today's indiegala bundle anyway.

Still sort of funny though.
