Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

What you guys think I can sell a sapphire 7970 vapor x for. My first time selling a gpu and looking for a respectable quick sale price. Looking to upgrade to the 970

Just ask another rep in chat. You just got a guy that didn't know what was up.

Ended up asking for my issue to be escalated. Got an email from their customer service leadership team apologizing for the difficulties and saying I would receive my code today. So, yay!

Newest WHQL driver does not fix the fan issue on MSI Gaming 970s. The fan spins up randomly when the card isn't in use. It was introduced after the last .11 driver.

Got my free backplate from EVGA for my 970 today. That was fast! I think I put the order in last thursday?

It involves taking out a bunch of screws and the card is so small already that I don't think it'll have an issue without the backplate so my motivation to put it together is pretty low. However if I have some free time this weekend I may just go ahead and do it. Seems simple enough.

The buzzing on my evga acx 2.0 has gone down significantly after I ran unigine valley for 48 hours straight. It's definitely there still. But I don't hear it during gameplay over the fans anymore, so I'm calling this solved

nice... i hope mine comes quickly too. I want to hide all those ugly transistors and chips and solder.

any overclocking or underclocking? I took down my clock speed by like 150 and had it at like 85% power level through EVGA precision and the buzzing was almost inaudible. I'm about to switch out my powersuply and I will post the outcome... along with some before an after pics of my new case :)

Can anyone confirm?

Interesting. I have some pretty ugly freezing/hitching/stuttering in BF4 (whatever you want to call it) and happened to stumble across this thread about the EVGA 970 FTW indicating it's TDP limited.

http://forums.evga.com/Can-I-get-an-EVGA-response-on-some-970-GTX-FTW-TDP-issues-m2244186.aspx

I think I'm going to try to load up Afterburner and hit the power limit to 110% and try again, see if it's any better. I HAVE seen my boost clock fluctuate quite a bit when playing BF4. I didn't think that was the issue but who knows.

Same guy created a modded BIOS to address it:

http://forums.evga.com/Modded-BIOS-to-fix-970-FTW-severe-throttling-issues-w-link-m2247507.aspx

I don't even know. Maybe I'm having some bad luck picking cards. For the fact that the FTW is almost $50 more than the others, I would expect it to be cream of the crop.

I can't even launch that auto update software....

Another update

"We've been working with MSI and MSI has notified us they will be providing the update through the LiveUpdate utility soon to customers. Please make sure you have the utility installed."

You might want to get that utility working. I think it's included on the disc that came with the gpu

Just installed my MSI Twin Frozr 970... Had my first encounter with coil whine during the the Windows Experience rating thing. The case is open and next to me so can't judge how bad it would be once I have it closed and on the floor, but if it stays within that loudness I think it won't be bad.

I had the same issue with BF4 on my EVGA 970, but it randomly stopped after the 3rd time I restarted the game. Not sure why, but I'm gonna just hope it doesn't come back.

Seriously? Wow. I'll have to give it another shot. The game did seem fun.

Afterburner is still the best. I keep it up for the on screen display even though I'm not overclocking my card atm.

I wasn't asking about Afterburner (I read it's the best everywhere), but while installing it it asked me if I also want to install RivaTuner Statistics Server with it.

It is. I took part in the one week trial that started Friday, but I liked it so much that I bought it for $20 on Amazon. Now I feel like buying the map packs. Haha.

Hope it works out for you though. I have the 970 SC ACX2.0 at factory OC, but I have the game on ultra at 1080/60. Your card is better than mine, so hopefully next time you boot it up it'll just go away.

What benchmark/stress tests should I download? I heard of Unigine and 3DMark (I guess Valley and Fire Strike, respectively?), anything else worth downloading. I don't have any games to test with right now, haven't been a PC gamer in ages :/

Having bought my 970 locally (not in the US), I missed out on the Pick Your Path offer.

Would gladly accept Steam gifts

Damn, just checked my mail and sure enough I got my backplate already too. I think I put my request in last Wednesday or Thursday when I got my 970.

Wasn't expecting it nearly so quick.

I installed the Live Update tool and let it do an auto scan of my system, it listed a bunch of things I can download but a new VBIOS was not one of them.

Also I caught my fans running randomly while idling.

Just got my 970 from Tigerdirect. They didn't send me a game code. Mother fuckers...

EDIT: Just got off support call, my case has been escalated for a manager to deal with. I should get an email in 24-48 hours. We'll see...

I didnt see anything either. Probably still need a while more.

Anyway I wanna know how Gaf put your dsr smoothness settings?

Nope, just running it out of the box - it's the acx 2.0 SC model. I can definitely still hear buzzing if I'm right up on the case, but from the couch it is no longer audible over the fans.

I just noticed that there is a wire on my MSI 970 that is touching both the heat pipe and heatsink as you can see in the pic:

D4dsf9Z.jpg

Is that normal? Doesn't seem wise to me. Edit: Looked at pics of the card online and that's how they all look it seems, I guess it's not an issue. I thought those parts would get very hot under load and having a wire pressed against them might melt it the plastic or something.

Also I just booted into Windows and opened Lightroom to crop and export the above photo and one of the fans started spinning like crazy. I quit Lightroom like 5 minutes ago and it's still spinning at what seems like full speed. I only have Chrome with this tab open... wth?

Oh sorry! Yeah. Rivatuner is the on screen display to my knowledge.

Well its not a TDP issue. I even turned everything down to low and was getting 200fps but still got the stutters. I'll try 32 bit next to see if that's any better cause I am enjoying it and $20 is a good price. :(

Something is off with my gamma I think... desktop colors/black levels look different than they did on Intel GPU. It's brighter or washed out.

My desktop looked brighter and more vibrant too after upgrading from 660ti to 970.

Thats the fan bug.

Try setting up a fan curve in MSI Afterburner. Settings > Fan > check the box saying "Enable user defined fan control". Apply settings. See if that does anything.

Thanks I'll try it tomorrow. I turned the pc off and going to sleep soon (it's 2AM here)

Not happy about this fan bug. Should have known not to beta test expensive hardware.
