What is everyone's 1v1 For Glory win rate? And how many games have you played?

I have played 327 matches and I'm completely stuck at ~%70, just went from 69.5 to 70.5. Raising it a single percent is so tough now...

180 battles
149-31
82.77 win rate.

Actually, he is correct: It is only 6:30ish PM EST right now.

Of course, if they meant EDT then yes, it's 7:30-something EDT right now.

Oops...Apologies!

"Hey, this Lucina is charging a shield breaker. It's okay, I'll just block it and punish her.

...

wait"

Did it twice in the same match too.

Any tips on Ike, I'm having trouble landing attacks and I played a Doctor Mario who destroyed be.

You have to play the waiting game with Ike. Lots of shield grabs and poking with his standard A. If you're reckless with him you're likely going to lose against decent players because he is easy to read. Dashing under someone and preparing an upsmash as they return to the arena is pretty safe and connects often. Don't be afraid to chase off stage and Fair them to the blastzone.

Well yea, which is why I am saying I think he is currently underrated. I fail to see what you guys are arguing with me about, lol

I'm not arguing with you. Just saying calling anyone's list a Tier List at this point less than a week after worldwide release is futile.

But it's not a big deal.

Lulz, this is exactly what happened to me the other night vs a Lucina. I stupidly blocked it, got my shield broken, and she got a free Fsmash on me. Granted, she probably could have gotten a better punish on me (fully charged Fsmash isn't that great of a punish at low %) so I was lucky on that front and it was right at the start of the match so I was at 0%.

Needless to say, the other guy kept trying to use shield breaker after that and every time it whiffed I punished him really hard for it. He got mad and tried to do other specials instead (like counter and Up B). Those got punished as well, generally speaking, because I baited them out.

All these high win rates make me sad. I'm sitting at about 40% through around 120 matches in For Glory. And I thought I was decent at Smash.

That being said, I don't really have a main yet and am jumping around between 10 or so characters so I'll use that as an excuse.

Thanks for the tips, I tend to charge up a lot so my moves are pretty predictable. I mostly need to be patient and wait for the right moment to strike. And use my A a bit more. I especially need to work on my air game not just for Ike, but for every character. Thanks again.

I like it when people use Lucina because I like to look at Lucina

Not sure which color is the best, though -- leaning toward the black and red

Fought like ten sets against this guy called Isaac. He started off with Yoshi, and he won that set, then swapped to Pikachu, and I won there. Mind, I was using Robin's Anna palette this entire time (the red female one), so after I best him, he swapped to black haired Robin to try and show me how it's done or something. And y'know, he did just that. It was mostly my fault, as I can confidently say that I don't think he wrapped his brain around Levin aerials and he seemed to be trying stuff out after I did it to him. I understood the character more, but I wasn't familiar at all with the Robin mirror and I made a bunch of dumb mistakes, so I wound up jumping into charged Smash attacks and getting hit by Thorons. Rookie jitters are a hell of a thing.

Suffice to say, he wrecked me pretty hard. And I was happy to be the punching bag while I learned the match-up and tried to figure out his weaknesses. And then on the last match, he goes and swaps from black haired male Robin to the red haired Anna Robin that I'd been using the whole time, and I was absolutely certain he was trying some serious disrespect. I told myself I wouldn't lose this shit, so I went in and took his first stock with a few grabs and Levin uairs, and scraped his last stock (with me being on my last as well) with an off-stage Thoron. Shit felt good. Like I'd protected my honour. :lol

I'm not sure if he was actually trying to make fun of me or not, but that dude crossed the line hard mirroring me with my own goddamn colour. I was gonna palette swap my Robin to match his old one but the dude left after that round.

Smaaaash brothers.

I sure wish this stupid game had Mario Kart 7 style communities so I could play GAF without having to make a million friend connections. :/ As-is I'll probably never play anybody on here, I've got a pretty strict "only people I actually know" thing goin on in that friend list.

OH WELL ;-;

Maybe in the Wu one.

No problem. I'd play, but I'm on neogaf when I should be studying.

Wait.
Haha, no worries. Your Sheik would probably intimidate me into not playing her. Still, would love to play some time. I've been very pleased with how good most of the GAFers are; definitely helping me step up my game in comparison to Brawl, where all I had were my group of friends.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Learned my lesson from Pokemon.

Hoping they'll add more online options in the wii u version since more people would probably be playing there anyways.

Just played a really good Yoshi in like five games. Good shit, guys. Yoshi is a beast with those shorthopped aerials.

I think I went 3 - 2 with Pac. Probably my favorite set of games so far. I love evenly matched fights.

unlocked all the characters, made a couple mii fighters, and won my first three online matches. Next order of business is custom moves. I take it Smash Run is good for that?

I got all excited to upload replays of today's games with my buddies because they were crazy fun. Then, as I'm plugging the SD card into my computer I realize. Oh wait this is Nintendo of course we can't get actual replay files :(. Just inputs that get replicated and replayed on the 3DS itself...

I didn't really feel like playing online was good practice, because the input lag in most matches is too high for stuff that I would normally execute to work. I mean, I like to do down tilts out of dashes but I can never do that online so I just end up dash attacking. And trying to do any sort of true combos or chase off stage... just no. I don't even try because it only ever results in punishment.

My only complaint as well, it would have been amazing.

Forward tilt has decent range and is relatively quick to come out though you need to get a feel for the timing, also can KO at higher percentages.
You'll want to avoid using the ever tempting front smash unless you're sure you can catch someone out with it, Up smash however is very useful in some cases due to its sweeping arc that hits behind you as well, it tends to catch some people off guard at any rate. Ike's standard combo is one of his few other quick moves, does decent damage and the final sword strike will give you some space so don't be afraid to use it whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Quick draw can be more useful than it initially appears, it goes really far in this one compared to Brawl so the horizontal recovery is quite strong and you can aim to strike opponents guarding the edge as well as recover though this can be risky if they are prepared for it in which case try shooting over them with it instead if possible.
Aether is handy every now and then, it grants super armour and can trap the opponent within the move but can easily become predictable if used too often, it leaves you open afterwards so if you missed you'll likely get punished for it.
Eruption is not a move that's going to see much use in one on one, the blast area of the move does hit higher than it looks at least, may have some uses it hitting those returning to the stage at a specific angle of even as a surprise aerial entrance but for the most part I don't recommend this one.

Ike's aerials are really handy, the back air comes out deceptively quick and with good knock back, down air spikes if you get the opportunity to use it but keep in mind Ike's vertical recovery only goes so far which is to say it's risky to jump far out in an attempt to spike, forward air can be good at preventing other characters recoveries, return to the stage with a brief quick draw afterwards.
In some cases I found the down throw to be followed up well with Aether but I think this depends on the character you are against and at low percentages only, not a true combo but worth keeping in mind.

Really the best thing I can say about Ike is you play carefully, get used to the feel of his various sword swings, note which ones are relatively quick and which are slower. I find that playing it safe until the opportunity presents itself to land a good blow in (usually through aerials, jab combo or tilts) and then if possible rushing in to follow up can work pretty well. Ike hits hard so a few solid hits rack up damage quickly, just don't get too overzealous and know when to back off again. Keep in mind the reach of Ike's sword Ragnell is pretty decent and once again get a feel for the timing to hit opponents first with its range if they rush you.
Oh and there's a counter of course, unlike others it has a bit more startup lag (as they should!) so use it sparingly lest you become predictable.

I might not be the best for this sort of thing but hopefully some of this is useful.

Well, it would be too large to store all of those replays on your SD card. I'm pretty sure this is what all fighters do for replays. Though some of them allow you to upload it to YouTube.

Just had some lameo use Bowser Jr online against. Doing all the bullshit combos. My Lucani had no chance.

Still put a good fight I mean, got him to 114% and I finally lost at a minute. Said Screw it, pulled out Charizard, and beat him in 50 seconds. My Charizard was at 187%, still 2 stock.

Bowser Jr's bullshit moves are no match for the constant Flare Blitz and the Moment of invulnerabilty you get with Rock Smash.

God do I hate Little Mac, Bowser Jr, and Rosalina though.

Am I a bad person for using Bowser's Side-B off the side of the stage online, or is this viewed as a legitimate strategy competitively?
It's pretty sweet, although not as sweet as the time I used Bowser's down aerial to shell-spike someone into the abyss. You could barely see the spikes of his shell poking above the bottom of the screen, lol.

I'm like that with Project M. I usually thought that the character I like to play as or was I at least good at could be my main. But when I got exposed by good players, I dropped that character and searched for another character to use.

I don't have smash 3ds, but I will use more than one character when the Wii U version comes out.

I feel as long as you are not spamming the same move over and over, you are playing fair. I love using down B and knocking out someone in the air.

With the Bowser-cide, can't the victim sometimes control it, depending on percent?

Yeah, it can be stopped at low percents. I wish I could show a replay I took last night. A guy was edge-guarding me (I was Bowser, and I believe they were Sheik or Greninja) and as he was about to attack me before I grabbed the ledge, I Side-B'd him in the air and Bowser-cided. Edit: Oh, this is a common tactic? I've never seen it before :/

Anyone wanna 1v1 no items? My FC is 2707-1640-8864

I view it as a legit strategy.

Ah, but spamming is in the eye of the beholder. I tend to use Duck Hunt's side B and down B a lot as I find them to be great combo openers. Would you consider that to be spamming?
