Man oh man is Rosalina fun to play. I'm really starting to get a hang of spacing with Luma and really feels like a fresh way to play. So satisfying to land a big smash attack with the little guy while you're 100 feet away.

Also, while I like the new structure of Classic Mode, the last two stages really could have been better implemented with regards to variation. The themed 'defeat groups of enemies' end of round Smash Run challenges would be a great option to have instead of fighting a Mii team every time, and allowing characters such as Wario-Man, Giga Mac, Giga Bowser and Mega Lucario to be fought as bosses as one of the final paths instead of Master/Crazy Hand/Core would have also been welcome.

But you don't fight a Mii team every time. I've definitely fought Villagers, Mega Man's, and ROBs.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever lost Smash Run. :3 Maybe it's just all that time I spent playing Air Ride when I was younger!

Really? It always feels like random chance to me, especially the free for all ones. It goes for what, 30 or 60 seconds? Barely enough time to get one or two kills.

The 'WIN" smash run with all characters is the worst. You could play for the whole thing, do really well... and then it's a race... with ganondorf. Nothing you can do. Not even 1000 speed will save you.
I had this experience. I was so enraged I switched to the Ganondorf Smash Bomb method for grinding his customs. It will take forever, but I can just mash "A" and read a book on the side.

You guys do know you can choose what character the CPUs play as in Smash Run, right? You could easily just make them all one character (Ganondorf as an example) and you would have an easy advantage over them.

Im rich :D

Also, the Smash times are a bit much since online play does not count. I am probably going to put CPUs to battle to get that one and use the hammer for the 50 hour challenge.

You know I think they might include online times. Maybe.
My Smash Play Time is 5:25 and my Group Play Time is 3:29, with 3:02 of that being online matches and I got the 10 hours of play achievement a little while back.....

I'm sucking bad at this game because the controls suck. I try to recover as Pikachu by doing skull bash and instead the game registers the input as down B, or vice versa. I've killed myself on accident so many times. Ugh....

Can't wait for Wii U version.

Huh. I've seen a few of these comments but honestly have never experienced something like that. It was an adjustment when I first started playing the demo (and sure, circle pad certainly isn't optimal for this game), but now that I'm used to it I haven't really have a problem.

The circle pad is causing problems fairly often for me as well. Side B / Up B confusion is common, and it's much more difficult to distinguish between the correct amount of force for tilts and smashes than with a proper controller, especially considering how fragile the pad is.

But you don't fight a Mii team every time. I've definitely fought Villagers, Mega Man's, and ROBs.

It's probably just my awful luck, then.

No Johns. B)

Nah, the controls do kinda suck. They're not awful, they work, but they leave a lot to be desired. It seems like the analog stick thresholds are a little off balance. I'd like to see something like this for Smash 4 to see how it compares. I'm looking forward to the console version too, but mostly for the c-stick.

Marth.

I think part of the problem is that I have this suicidal desire to approach Ike as he's charging moves. I keep thinking I should hit him before he does it, even though standing clear and whacking him after would make more sense.

Basically, the primary problem is that I'm an idiot.

Lol I'm impulsive like that all the time, especially with Sheik coz I feel like I could get to them before they get to me. It almost never works in my favor. :/

I am so happy now, my heart was pounding during the final match. Was one life and 140% damage by the end.
My setup was Bowser with Critical Badge, Shell for Defense, and Speed Upgrade.
Now the rest of the challenges are easy, just boring.

Are you required to battle Master Core for that challenge or are you allowed to just do Master Hand on his own?

Smash Run can be amusing at times though. I did random and got speedy Greninja (faster than Sonic) and it was a battle. I thought for sure I would lose, then it went to sudden death for all. Since speed is the best thing in sudden death, I won it easy.

Also if the challenge does include online then 50 hours is way less stupid. I wish Solo mode hours were included in the challenge.

You are not given a path choice on 9.0. It also does not matter which hand you defeat, the other one transforms into Master Core. So yeah, you have to face all forms. The best advice is high defense because rage really helps take down his forms.

One time I ran through and fought Giant Donkey Kong and the Yoshi Team! That was super cool nostalgia right there, I just needed Metal Mario to complete it (I've actually never seen Metal Mario come up as a fight at all).

You can get a team of random characters on the harder difficulties. I've have everything from Yoshi to an entire team of ROBs.

Yeah, lots of time I press A over to smash someone and it registers as a generic a over move instead of a smash move. And this isn't even a matter of me getting used to the controls; I've played the game for over 40 hours. Its just really inconsistent due to the circle pad.

I used Megaman with 38 Attack/0 Defense/ 2 Speed and demolished Master Core. Metal Blade eats through his forms like they're candy.

Serious question - what's keeping the 3ds version from becoming irrelevant once Wii U smash is out, outside of portability?
Nothing really, but it depends on what you care about.

Personally I tend to bring Smash with me anyway, just have to find an outlet to plug in at. I rarely have a chance to play handhelds outside of home. The 3DS version is just a gimped controller to me.

But since we're ignoring portability, you still have 3D, unique stages, and Smash Run. If you like any of those the 3DS is your go to.
True. Didn't consider this.
Well with that one, you can also bring them to your Wii U and hand them a controller.

I wonder if customize items/moves will be easier to collect on 3DS. Everyone can transfer them into WiiU with multiple 3DSs, then transfer back. Also Smash Run.

I already knew Master Core was weak to Metal Blade as well. I am surprised you did not get knocked out by sword form though. Either way, glad I never have to do that again (unless the Wii U version has the same challenge and I cannot transfer my results...)

I hate this fucking circle pad. Twice now I've lost because instead of an up special recovery I did the forward special instead.

BS

I wonder if they'll patch in ability to match make for
-region
-connection quality
-skill level

Even playing online against friends is a few steps harder than it needs to be.

The 3DS controls are definitely not ideal, but this sounds like user error. Don't blame the controls like they are just performing ghostly inputs against your will.

You mean you don't enjoy using a 3rd party means of communication like texts or gaf to discuss who should open the room?

To anyone who is having connection problems: try switching your wireless channel from your router (channel 4 works well for me); this fixed all my connection issues and now I hardly have any lag, whereas before it was Brawl-level awful.

Finally defeated Classic mode with all characters, guess that i better start with all-star mode.

btw you advice on cruel mode were really helpful SmashGAF thanks!

This has been mentioned but interesting how the game is built to accommodate alternate costumes and skins, and yet, clone characters like Dr. Mario, Dark Pit and Lucina exist. Alph doesn't take up a character slot. Neither classic Wario nor any of the Koopa Kids or Villager's alts take of slots either. It begs the question as to what the devs were thinking. I mean, what next? Could Dixie be an alt for Diddy? Could Roy be an alt for Marth? Mewtwo for Lucario? Instead of wasting precious roster slots on clones, they could have been alternate skins instead, leaving all slots available to unique or new characters. Just a thought...

You could try to see if your Circle Pad is calibrated correctly in the seeting menu of the 3DS

I will stay play it. I take it to work everyday and practice combos while my breaks or at my desk if not busy. Will come in handy for boring in law visits as well lol

I kill myself constantly as Greninja with the same issue--forward B instead of the up B I intended, so I don't think it's his fault. That said...I almost never have the same issue with Sheik, which is odd.

Uhh, no. I don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

Yeah, ok man. Nothing is ever the result of your mistakes, right? How would you explain the millions of players who don't have that issue? How would you explain the incredible players on here playing against each other and not doing that, myself never having that issue, and pro players never complaining that "up b performs a side b".

User error.

Yeah at this point the aching for a GC controller is kind of frustrating me. I haven't gotten any cramps or anything luckily considering how long I've been playing, but the 3DS's control scheme just can't keep up with my hands in Smash. So many times I've wanted to do something, but my fingers have just felt too wrapped up to do it. And yeah, with the circle pad I get the up b/side b shit too, and general trouble doing quick movements and even sometimes stuff like smash attacks. It's annoying.

I'm glad this version exists and it's awesome for what it is, but all it's making me do now is want the Wii U version really bad.
