Megaman didn't work. Got up to the sword and got my ass handed to me.

I suck at this game. lol
I used Kirby with Auto-heal and 2 of my best +def, -speeds. I still never figured out how to dodge the rapid slash sword attack, but a well timed stone could cancel it all. I really only used Kirby because that's what Gema used to first beat it.

Little Mac was without a doubt the #1 character I was most looking forward to. I absolutely love Punch-Out and seeing him make it in the game made me really happy. And a lot of people in my area aren't all that familiar with Punch-Out so they weren't too interested in Little Mac. Plus they kept saying he'd suck because of his terrible recovery and air game. I thought I'd be one of the few people to actually play him and show that he can be a good character.........but, it looks like eeeeeeverybody's playing him now too. I can no longer proudly say "Hey, I play with Little Mac." because people are just gonna say "Yeah, so does everyone in the world." Now I don't feel as special... :(

Oh my god, I completely empathize with you--same here! I've been dreaming of Little Mac in Smash for years, and I was so pumped when I heard about his inclusion. I had (perhaps foolishly) hoped to prove that his air game wasn't an issue, but now I'm afraid self-identifying as a Mac user will just be met with lots of scowls and eyerolls. :(

I came across the worst type of Mario player in For Fun. Just stood near the edge of a flat stage and threw people towards the edge for immediate KO.

I'll see your edge-loving Mario and raise you an edge-loving fireball-spamming Mario. :P

The more I play Robin the more I lose interest in the rest of the case. S/he is so much fun to play. Just fits my play style so well. I think I've found my first character to master.

I got two beautiful kills against a ZSS today. One was an edge Thoron kill. The other was an Arcfire combo'd into up air for the kill. It was so satisfying.

I have no clue how to deal with pressure though. Like I feel like I have zero options against ZSS (I'm very newb at this game). Any tips?

With Little Mac I've noticed I suck at recovering. As in I literally can't. If I'm knocked off in any way (throw or smash or whatever) I can't get back. I only have one jump and either the side B for a bit of horizontal movement or the up b for a tiny bit of vertical. I might be showing my Smash noobiness here but I remember in previous games when you were hit when in the air/off screen you got back your jumps or a chance to recover but here sometimes it seems to happen sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I have two jumps to recover, sometimes I have one.

I can't get four kills in Cruel Multi-Smash no matter how much I try.

How I did it:
1.Be Kirby
2.Go to edge of stage
3.Face inwards and suck
4.Turn and walk off edge
5.Let them escape (as in don't eject them or hit anything)
6.They will fly out away and unable to get back on, hop right back on (or over to other side or whatever)
7.Rinse and repeat

I got 6 kills this way. Don't try and spit them out or try and go down low with them or whatever, they can and will try to footstool you and get back on. This way they just jump and miss the ledge and just fall to their doom.

So what is dodging in this game and how does it work? If I shield in the air during recovery it seems to do something. Also, some people seem able to dodge throw attempts.

There's two types of dodging:

1. Aerial based
2. Ground based

You only have one aerial based dodge and it is called an "air dodge". To perform an air dodge, simply press L or R (whatever your shield button is) and you will dodge the incoming attack (you have to time it right obviously). But be careful, there's landing lag on air dodges so if you do one too close to the ground you can be punished for it.

There are two different ground dodges: rolling and spotdodge. To perform a roll, hold L or R (whatever your shield button is) and move the circle pad left or right. Rolls are intended to have seldom use but lots of people tend to spam them because of how fast and invincible they are in this game compared to the previous entries -- they are punishable though if you do it too much (I wouldn't recommend using them as a form of "travel").

The other grounded dodge is a spotdodge. To perform a spotdodge, while you're shielding press down on the circle pad. A spotdodge let's you dodge an incoming attack or grab, but you need to predict it in order to make use of a spotdodge -- spamming it won't always work (though it can be successful at times).

I hope that explains things to you.

Before Melee came out I was hoping against hope Mac would be in as a secret character (they made Falcon a character in 64 so I thought this wasn't that farfetched) and I assumed he was a lock for Brawl. As Brawl's gameplay soured me on what was my favorite franchise, I wasn't interested in 4 until Mac was announced. He even played exactly as I imagined him with a KO punch and a horrible air game.

It's a little disappointing he's so widespread online as I tend to gravitate towards less popular characters. I think all the hate towards him is just week 1 knee jerk reactions. He's a lot like Dudley in Street Fighter in that he's only really good when he forces you to play the game the way he wants to play it. Once Mac is on defense he starts to fall apart.

Imagine if Sakurai had decided to make all the Koopalings their own characters and we had the same moveset with slight variations eight times.

I don't know why everyone complains about Little Mac. My nemesis is currently Ike, the bastard. I don't know why, but he gives me absolute fits. If I'm lucky, I take a stock; if I do badly I might lose while doing, like, 50% damage.

Gah.

Nah Dark Pit as his own character was planned well in advance.

See: Palutena trailer.

I'd actually take the Palutena trailer as a huge nod in favor of Dark Pit being added ultra late, considering Robin's trailer came out only a month and a half later and heavily featured Lucina.

I think Doc was added fairly early, if not right from the start (as he was planned for Brawl and has lots of differences from Mario).

Lucina was probably added later when they were going to cut Ice Climbers/Chorus Boys as sort of a replacement for them. She also fits in the roster nicely and is another female rep. She's also a perfect clone, it just makes total sense for her to use Marth's moves and she also nods back to the days of Roy.

Dark Pit was probably added late this year. He's a Final Smash and a side special away from being a total reskin. He makes Melee Doctor Mario look like a unique character. The cloniest clone we've ever had, it's pretty clear he was added incredibly late in development, probably solely because Sakurai made Kid Icarus and/or Olimar isn't popular enough to warrant a clone from Alph. He doesn't even have a unique model! He was almost certainly an alt costume for Pit with voice lines and what not. He probably made it further as an alt than Lucina did, and I kind of doubt Doc was ever seriously considered as an alt.

You know what?

I'd rather not have DP, Lucina and Mario, and use Takamaru and Dillon assets and time on developing them as ATs into full characters.

I don't really think the trailers can be used as evidence of much - clearly, both Lucina and Dark Pit would have at least been voiced alts, and thus had a presence in the game in some form. Of the clones, while Dark Pit doesn't have a unique model, he does have his own FS and more VFX alterations than Lucina, which does seem to indicate he was added a little earlier; though both were last-minute.

Ike does a shit ton of damage, and has counter. So i agree with this.

Lucina has more balance changes from Marth, a more unique gimmick (Dark Pit doesn't even have a gimmick), an actual model, and a proper title card and appearance in a trailer. She feels more "complete" to me as a character.

Palutena's and Robin's trailers came out so close to each other, if Dark Pit was added before Lucina, he would have been in Palutena's trailer. Lucina was done enough at that point to be edited into the trailer, while Dark Pit could not be, even if editing Dark Pit into Palutena's trailer would have been even easier than Lucina because of where he appears in the trailer.

Jigglypuff was made for smash run. She's just so good there just flying around at high speeds.

Yeah certain characters work really well in that mode. I've had a lot of success with toon link, since he's faster, floatier, and still pretty strong. Mobility is king in smash run.

Similarly, Shulk's mode changes make adapting to the end-of-round challenges trivial.

I'm really enjoying the mode a lot more now that I'm treating it as its own thing and using the powers and equipment. Perhaps I just needed some time to get familiar with it.

Anyone got any good Greninja videos/tips? I'm loving the little fellow but I do alot better with most of my other mains like Lucario.

If Smash Run was online I'd be all over that shit. So many fun stories would be had. Such a missed opportunity. It wouldn't even be hard to do considering you don't see the other players on the map!

Really hope I can get a four player local game of it going sometime.

I am so happy now, my heart was pounding during the final match. Was one life and 140% damage by the end.
My setup was Bowser with Critical Badge, Shell for Defense, and Speed Upgrade.
Now the rest of the challenges are easy, just boring.

Just joined a very silly room full of people with Japanese names in for fun. None of us attacked each other for 4 games and we were just goofing off.

Never thought I'd see it honestly.

Congratulations! :D I've only got a couple more challenges: complete All-Star with all characters, win Smash Run with all characters, and play VS Mode for 50 hours.

The 'WIN" smash run with all characters is the worst. You could play for the whole thing, do really well... and then it's a race... with ganondorf. Nothing you can do. Not even 1000 speed will save you.

He's slow as hell, though. If you get hit, you're in trouble, but ideally you should be able to avoid the "getting hit" part with minimal fuss.

Just use a zoning character like Pac-Man or DHD if you're scared to get in close.

Damn, congrats!
I'm at 91 Challenges done, but am saving that one until last :)
Currently beating Classic with everybody and, as you say, it's kinda boring.

I suffered through that as well. There's nothing more frustrating than watching him plod along with his ridiculous running animation; falling behind three seconds in.

I don't understand the equipment. It says that I've got a shit ton of it when I try and sell it, but when choosing it only seems to give me a select few.

There's honestly way too much equipment for this games own good in my opinion. I don't wanna compare all these slight stat changes and shit, especially considering the amount of characters this game has.

Yeah, All-Stars is definitely much more fun with all characters because it moves pretty quick.
Smash Run is probably the most boring because there is a randomness factor. I hope Ganondorf does not get Climb/Run for example...

Edit: Also, the Smash times are a bit much since online play does not count. I am probably going to put CPUs to battle to get that one and use the hammer for the 50 hour challenge.

Played my first four 1v1 Glory matches last night as Ludwig. Lost the first to a decent Jiggs, then proceeded to take down a Luigi and someone else who I can't remember. Last match was against a Rosalina but the lag was unbearable. Ending up just suiciding after losing my first stock because it was just not fun.

Marth.

I think part of the problem is that I have this suicidal desire to approach Ike as he's charging moves. I keep thinking I should hit him before he does it, even though standing clear and whacking him after would make more sense.

Basically, the primary problem is that I'm an idiot.

Gah.

Ike at least seems easier to punish though. Little Mac having counters plus very little lag from attacks, landing, and dodging makes him a bitch for me to punish. Granted that is my experience against a level 9 CPU, I haven't met a really deadly Little Mac player yet.

Is there a way to tell if you 'won' with a character in smash run just by looking at the CSS? You can tell if they PLAYED because you have a score, but can you tell if you WON?

You could try using Counter as you approach him.

Kinda wish I could stop playing this game and life my life but I can't, so does anyone wanna do 1 v 1? Or if we could get enough people I'd really like to try a team battle.

I do that all the time too, with everybody. In all the games. :(

"Oh, (s)he's charging? I better run in and attack before the move comes out." 2 seconds later, dead. lol

Honestly, I don't think I've ever lost Smash Run. :3 Maybe it's just all that time I spent playing Air Ride when I was younger!

I do not think so. I think it is something you have to keep a mental note about it, which is silly. You think they could give you like a stat that says Highest Rank: X.
