The second best in Uprising is better than 'probably not the worst' in Smash 4. :v

(as an aside, is there a full gallery of Kid Icarus portrait sprites anywhere? I tried looking a long time ago and found pretty much zilcho.)

Pretty good write up and I agree a lot with your sentiments. A lot of Palutena's moves are just needlessly laggy and aside from her customs she is a very underwhelming character.

I'll still play her online and (hopefully) wreck some fools but damn her kit is so punishing to use.

Her customs are the sole reason she's a viable character in my book. And probably the reason why they're immediately unlocked.

Yeah, it's the lag on her normal moves (especially her tilts) that are the most frustrating for me. I love her character, and I want to make her work, so I guess I'll just have to try playing more defensively. I'm definitely going to set up a custom moveset for her and play around with Jump Glide. I don't know if I'll be able to part with her other specials, though... Reflect is nice to have on hand for the myriad projectile users (bouncing Luma back at Rosalina is SO satisfying), Counter is her only truly viable escape option, and Autoreticle is a great way to put the opponent on the defensive.

Uair is pretty solid, but as you mentioned, the hitbox is pretty precise (and you'll be lucky to get 1% off it horizontally, lol) and it's really not that useful off-stage unless the positioning happens to be entirely serendipitous. It's definitely pretty good when it does connect, though. I just never feel safe trying to use it against anything that's not a dummy, haha. Always feel like it's safer to stay on the ground and charge an Up-Smash or something. I might have to agree with you on N-air after going back to reexamine the move, though. I wrote it off since, much like Palutena's other staff twirly moves, it has pretty long start-up and I was focusing a lot on what was practical in terms of acting out of her Jump Glide, but the hitbox does stay out for a while and it actually has pretty good coverage (around most of her body, seems like), so it's probably bound to be pretty useful for covering your descent.

I really can't emphasize enough how useful that Jump Glide is, though. It's got so much utility, it's crazy. Going from Warp to Jump Glide is a goddamn quantum leap. :lol

I feel bad that I have yet to make that quantum leap. :O I'll make the change as soon as I can!

Another issue I have is that the hitboxes on her FSmash and DSmash are deceptively small. More often than not, I end up hitting the opponent with the windbox instead. I'm curious to find out where the hitbox ends and the windbox begins.

*high fives Moonlight, PK Gaming, Masked Man*

We are Viridi's army! <3

more like:

lose with Little Mac->switch to supposed counter and lose again->"eh the first match was a fluke right"->switch back to Little Mac and lose again->ragequit

Sounds like every time I play For Glory, lol. People in Japan have figured out how to shut down Mac pretty easily, so playing online tends to get frustrating really quickly.

good games! I guess the game was telling us to stop playing with that disconnect haha.

You're shiek is really good espiecially at the edge. Had a hard time getting back on stage >.<
There were moments, but for every good edgeguard I got I probably SD's once too, lol.

Yeah, not sure why it disconnected like that. I meant to quit playing like... an hour sooner. Had too much fun playing though, kept thinking 'one more try...'. We'll have to rematch sometime. :)

Wow, I just had a ton (I think it was around 20) of For Glory matches that felt like I was playing offline. No lag whatsoever! I went up against a really good Sheik which was nice. I needed to learn on to deal with speedy rushdown characters like her, and there's no better way to learn than to fight someone better than you IMO.

I had a great record going for 1v1s, 22-11, but then my pride got the best of me and i lost 7 games in a row.

Im going to have to implement a two loss rule on myself. If i lose two games in a row, I just need to back out and find someone else to play.

Nintendo never fails to release all of their good games when I have midterms. I'm basically fucked for the entire month.

I want to body all of you =(

I prefer playing people that can consistently beat me. I find that it helps me to overcome my weaknesses.

Did 10 For Glory matches with Greninja tonight. Didn't lose a sinlge one.

Come. At. Me.

But not today, I'm in bed right now.

Definitely up for a rematch in the future.

In the meantime I need to learn some new tech with the hydrant other than hitting it with a bair.

Divinipedia usually has them.

I think I might be able to play Thursday night this week or Friday morning/afternoon for a bit. Who wants to fight the Sheik?

I'm off on Friday, so I'd love to play. I need more practice against the faster characters so this would be some invaluable training for me.

mmxzero if you're seeing this, I didn't choose that stage on purpose. It was random! XD

No prob, it was kind of what ever goes. Items on, we kind of try to ignore them, then that goes out the window lol. Good playing with you, you definitely had the advantage! Yoshi and maybe Wario were the only characters I could put up a good fight with.

Note to self. Always watch Greninja's shadow...

That move is fairly useful on dark/pixel maps where you can't see the shadow.

On brighter stages it's unusable IMO, except when a teammate can set you up or maybe in the chaos of an FFA. I honestly think there should be no shadow ever - the little dust cloud tells your opponent enough.

I think fsmash just works on a general principle of 'is it close enough y/n', :lol. If I could touch it with my ftilt, I could probably touch it with the fsmash, is my principle. The thing I have the most trouble with is usmash being narrower than it looks. The hitbox is actually a little narrower than the beam itself, so someone could totally be overlapping it and still not be hit. :lol

I just went here, searched up Palutena, looked in the gallery section and found her Uprising portraits.

Should be the same with the other characters.

Divinipedia usually has them.
Just looked through it. Thanks.

Holy shit, just looked at my records for Bowser. 45 wins and 12 losses in Online, only one of those was in For Fun. But my overall win rate is only around 62%.

Sorry fellow Palu players but I'm not feeling auto-reticule. An opponent with half a brain knows they can break the lockon just by shorthopping or jumping and on the rare occasion it'll straight up not shoot even though you have clear line of sight and they're blatantly in range. I personally find the blast much more rewarding as it can kill and I've always had a thing for attacks that require precision spacing. That said, i've yet to toy with heavenly light which could be a really nasty anti 'everything above me' move for racking up damage % :3

Also, for down-B I'd personally take the firework over the counter. Not only can it kill, but, more importantly, it gives you full body invincibility when you use it so you can actually straight up utilise it as a counter itself (the firework going up hits targets on the ground and launches them into the explosion so it's not even strictly anti-air). It quickly became my friend's least favourite move as I sent them skywards with it constantly, often right through their own attacks :D Also, i don't know why but I can barely ever land Palutena's counter and when I do the knockback tends to be underwhelming.

Also, holy heck Zelda... I don't know why they've got her as low tier in japan because she's awesome in smash 4. Her teleport is possibly the most fun I've had with a character and about 70% of my KOs come from telefragging people now. I'm sure more advanced players would learn to block when they see me disappear but most people seem to really struggle against it :P It's also fun watching most players trying to reflect Dinn's fire the first time or two, not realising that it's not a projectile XD

Rosalina seems to click with me somehow and her moveset seems pretty satisfying with maybe the exception of her Down-B. My only wish is that I could predict Luma's movements a bit better as it's not always easy to tell what it'll do when I'm tumbling back towards the stage. As long as they don't land that horrible KO punch I can maim most little macs with her too (extra fun for the times they've KO punched me but Luma took the hit instead XD )

Lucina's doing better than my default moves palutena at least but she still has more losses than wins. I can land her counter a lot more consistently than Palutena's and it's fairly rewarding the many times I've landed it too :D

Robin's not really clicking with me as much as I'd hoped. Her moveset seems fine but I can't find a colour that really looks good to me :P

My biggest issue so far is the the 3DS's inputs seem to bias left and right over up. This has lead to more deaths than I care to admit as I've pressed diagonal up B and got the side-B special. I have to press directly up or I'll basically just do the wrong move and fall to my doom in an embarrassing fashion. I've never had this issue in any of the previous smash games :/

All said and done I'm quite enjoying it though and I really, really can't wait for the Wii-U version XD
