I might be one of the few that pick Peach online.
I still haven't decided which main I'll use, not a problem since I know I'll play for months and the Wii U version will feel better, control-wise.

Fought a guy who was clearly maining Ganondorf last night. Beat my Little Mac, Palutena, and Lucina.

So then I switched to Ganondorf and two-stocked him, causing him to quit afterwards. :P

I feel just the opposite, Mac relies so heavily on counters (its honestly one of his better recovery options) that input lag makes him really frustrating to play.

I should have clarified that it hurts Ike (and many other slow characters) in the matchup.

I have few tools to deal with speed on the ground, and have to be pixel perfect on my tilts in order to stop his rush down. The delay means that Ike rarely has time to counter a dash attack, which is also super safe on block and very difficult for Ike to punish.

I get so few hits in that I am nearly always on the ropes. Sometimes the best I can hope for is a lucky fsmash to knock him off stage, but it's very difficult to stack damage on a character that has such fast normals and can easily counter my most powerful attacks.

Palutena is probably the slowest character in the game. Like I am not even joking. I guess there is a reason they gave her customs.

In movement speed or attack speed? Because Palutena is really not too bad in terms of movement. Robin and Jigglypuff are pretty much the slowest characters in the game.

I hate the online. My Cap is useless and I don't know how to improve or learn anyone else. :/
Just keep trying different characters until you find one that clicks with your playstyle, you'll eventually find it. I tried Peach two days ago, now it's my semi-main, just behind my main of mains Mega Man, but that's only because I'll never put him down, doesn't matter if I'm less competitive with him, it's the character I chose to main. Mega Man 4 Life

Ah, I suppose that is probably the best one out of the three. Also, you're done? GGs if so.

Edit:

Yeah he's all right. You could've predicted my down Bs in the air out of hitstun though lol. But yeah, good games!
Haha, I know, I was kind of out of it. I've had kind of an off Smash day so far, but...you know, no johns.

I know exactly what you mean, it's pretty irritating when you just know the dash is coming and you think that you've finally got the timing down on the tilt or counter only to have barely moved Ragnell before Mac's fist is bearing down on your face, he can be scarily quick.
That being said I haven't found the match up that bad, Ike has decent aerials to gimp his recovery (then again so does everyone really), you'll really want to make use of the standard A combo as to get some quick hits in when the opportunity presents itself.

I'm having trouble learning what a few special moves do for a few of the new characters.

What does everyone recommend as a good online resource that describes move sets and general strategies for as many characters as possible? IGN's Wiki is anemic.

That was unexpected -- I got maybe 3 Nintendo error codes in a row trying to join For Glory just now. Maybe not enough people are playing?

LMAO I just made someone SD-rage quit with my Dark Pit vs his Pit. I did Electroshock Arm on his roll, he got KO'd, and then he went and SD'd and left the room.

Just had a great time online! Some matches were unplayable but most were fantastic. Fought a dude who had a monstrous Yoshi, and it took me around 20 games to adapt to him. I finally beat him though, and I think I was using Ike! I was alternating between Ike, Link, and Mega Man. My Link had no chance, my Mega Man came oh so close, but Ike finally managed to eek out a victory.

And this is just day 1 for me. There is going to be so much more Smash in my future!

I'm fairly sure he can escape out of the A combo at low percentages. But you're right, if you can get Mac off the stage you can stuff him with one good read.

What all of Ike's matchups boil down to is mind games and getting hits in when you can. A down throw to Aether can put some damage on the board, but his matches are slow and reactive. I'm hoping someone finds some more competent combos for Ike, so that we can start converting those one and done hits into meaningful damage.

i just lost to Michael's ness
imagine if he had fought me with the same skill with a non-lowtier fighter

ill never beat that guy. i should just give up this whole game

I'm afraid to turn on spectator mode for fear of adding extra lag. I assume it would have to send data either to a server or to potential spectators, right?

I think it's too early to say tiers, but even so I don't think Ness is necessarily low-tier. I've seen Shamrock do really well with him for example.
