That feeling when you land an Elwind gimp can't be matched

So good
So much truth here. Managing it is rare for me, but so beautiful when I do it.

ofc sweet-spotting Elwind for the straight-up meteor smash is awesome too

->Great range
->Fast startup
->Insane KO power

It's arguably the best KO move in the entire game. If you don't respect this move, Wario will destroy you.
The insane thing about it is that it doesn't need to be fully charged to kill early, so you can be really unpredictable with it. No one ever sees a half-charged waft coming, ESPECIALLY off stage where they can't block.

And if it is full, well, better not be reckless lol.

^ This shit is so true. Off stage wafts are the bane of my existence.

Is there a good site with general write-ups for the overall mechanics in Smash 4, and how to use each character?

I'm browsing through Smashboards right now through that, but I'd love a nice, clean resource to use.

I know it's early, but I am enjoying this Smash so much more than I ever recall enjoying past installments, and I enjoyed SSB64, Melee and Brawl A LOT. The roster is just ridiculously varied and well-balanced, the art and animation is superb, the music and sound design top-notch, everything is so tight and well-tuned. If this is how good SSB4 is on 3DS, I can't even imagine what it'll be like on WiiU with the additional control options and the HD graphics.

I've really taken to Zero Suit Samus and Bowser (the latter being one of my Melee and Brawl mains, dramatically improved here). The lion's share of my games in For Glory are as ZSS. I've been winning most matches lately (and enjoying the replays!), but it rarely feels "free." The matchmaking system seems to work really well. Also, I tried a four-player match in For Fun and everything was silky smooth, showing that the experience works well when everyone has a solid connection.

Of the newcomers, I like Bowser Jr., as expected. Such a fun and imaginative character packed full of little details that make you smile.

And regarding Zero Suit Samus, she's like the perfect character for my tastes. Extraordinary speed and mobility, high combo-ability, KO power, a meteor smash, eight-hit recovery with KO finisher (up special), spacing option and tether recovery (side special), stun moves (neutral special, down smash), burying move (down special), the best dash attack ever, etc.

Yesterday in For Glory, I had a ZSS mirror match (right down to the blue athletic apparel -- thank you, Female Designer!), where I was 190% and I KO'd my doppelganger who was at 125%. Goes to show the difference a Smash Attack can make!

I also love the snapshot function. I posted them before, but I've since made a couple collages (which mercifully spare you my jokey captions):

Haha that thing is godlike I was so off with it tonight though. I couldn't believe how much that bacon edge guarding was wrecking me, am I just stupid or is bacon awesome now?

It was always his zoning tool but they buffed he shit out of it, it stuns for longer, lingers longer, and it can combo super easy

I love running into other little macs online and winning without losing a stock. They always try and try and then just pick another character and still get wrecked. bahaha

While I used Diddy Kong and Toon Link the most in Brawl, I find myself gravitating towards Wario and Little Mac this time. I've barely played as Toon Link at all, and have instead been using Link. Nice to have Diddy as my old stand-by though.

Retaining momentum after leaping off stage with Superspeed is the best. Those off-stage high-speed aerial chases mannn why doesn't everyone get this

Yeah it just seemed to have a lot more presence. I played G&W in this for the first time earlier today and he felt great, like so fast.
Mr. Game & Watch was my other main alongside Bowser in Melee and Brawl. I only tried him long enough in SSB4 to confirm he still has his trampoline-into-key-drop combo, one of my bread-and-butter moves back in the day. I should give him more love here, but most my attention has gone to Zero Suit, Bowser and Bowser Jr.

I was spectating a match between Ganondorf and Palutena and there was a moment where they both respawned, and Ganondorf taunted, and then Palutena taunted, and it was very cute, this playful exchange of taunts. But what made me laugh out loud is when Ganondorf, true to character, flame-choked Palutena as she taunted. What a scoundrel, lol.

And I myself had a match as Bowser Jr., against a very skillful Mario, where we spent half the match just taunting, bobbing up and down, being silly. Then we'd inch toward each other until it was clear it was time to fight. It's definitely more fun in For Glory when you have a sense your opponent is a human being with a sense of humor, haha.

Diddy Kong used to be one of my better characters but theyve changed him too much for me now. And now ROB has so much lag for all of his moves.

Played this game a ton over the weekend... ended up unlocking the "have the game powered on for 8 hours" after having it for only a couple of days O_o.

It's really making me itch for the Wii U version though, since I'd love to check out the game with friends locally who don't have 3DS's.

I already unlocked the "Have the game powered on for 20 hours" challenge. I think I need an intervention.

My brother is a Wario main (mained him in Brawl too) so I know all too well about the horrors of being picked off in the air via the waft, haha.

Remember in Brawl when the half-charged waft was had even more KO power than the half-charged waft? Good times.

I really enjoy collecting trophies in this game compared to Brawl. I do think it's a bit strange that the trophies don't tell you where the characters come from, though. Isn't that the point of them?

Yeah, I agreed. I guess it might be because of small screen on 3DS screen that they can't included that information.

If I could find more outfits to complete the first challenge board, I think I would've done that challenge, too. I played something like 30+ hours the past three days, which is crazy. Game is so good.

I have no idea how to play. Literally just mashing buttons right now. Never played a smash game before.

Can someone point me in the direction of a tutorial that can show me how to play the right way? Good beginner characters, etc?

I have as well. I will need an intervention if I unlock "10 hours of Smash" this week.

I just used a hammer for that one. I don't have anyone to play with locally, so I don't plan on playing smash mode again after getting the 1000 KO's required for the challenge on the third board.

thanks guys, I'll try those later =)

any particular strategy you're using?... I'm a fairly decent DK player, but I can't get past 90 KO's in this mode for some reason.

in the meanwhile, I tried it with Ike again, and the game is basically mocking me at this point:

Just down b with dk

True, although most of the trophy entries make it clear what game they're from, or at least which series. There are some, though, where it's more ambiguous. Like there's one I think is from Freakyforms, since it looks like the art style and mentions "forms" in the text. But yeah, if one wasn't already aware of that game, they wouldn't be able to deduce the source title.

On the whole, though, the trophy entries are EXCELLENT. Excellent economy of words to fit in the clever humor and wordplay that they do.

Geez this is embarrassing lol, no matter who I pick I get wrecked. The only time you lose a stock is when you accidentally kill yourself haha. I had to leave in a hurry sorry about that, give me some time to get better with Pacman and I'll try and see if I can beat you once one day haha :P

I think Mario is the best starting place. I've changed mains every installment and was never interested in Mario, but he'll teach you fundamentals I wish I would have learned sooner. Link is a bit more difficult to excel with. Once you get Mario down you can start cleaning up with Sheik and become the monster I fear most.
