So far these are the characters I've been using this weekend and my thoughts on them..
Captain Falcon - My dude. This ain't Melee, but his knee doesn't completely suck anymore and he got some other nice improvements from the embarrassment he was in Brawl. He's a solid character that is as good as I need him to be. He's fuckin Captain Falcon. I love him.
Falco - He has had a really weird learning curve. He plays VERY different from Fox in this game. Almost to a Wolf level. He relies on reading opponents, reacting with his strong pokes, an offstage fighting. His forward smash is one of the best in the game, with good kill potential and range, and very safe. And all of his air moves have had slight tweaks to give them all a firm purpose. His fair in particular, is much improved and is actually useful now, especially when fighting high off stage.
At first I thought he was just a little too clunky, but now I've come to really like him. I don't know how good he'll be in the grand scheme of things, but I think he's a lot better than people generally think. If you plan to play him, just don't play him like Fox at all. Ignore his up smash and typical Fox things, and try a more careful approach with well-timed pokes.
Pac-Man - Fuckin LOVE this dude. Man is he fun to play. His playstyle is interesting, because he seems to be all about just controlling space. He's generally agile but not quick, and his aerials are meaty and fast along with his ground moves, but they lack K.O. potential. This along with the fire hydrant and his amazing recovery allows you to control the stage well, and set up options for him. What this means for me, is using this time to charge up his neutral B to his godlike key.
The key hits hard for damage, is as fast as a light thrown item, and has great K.O. potential. It can be used for stage control, damage, gimping, raw kills, ect. This thing is seriously devastating, and I believe a huge part of his gameplan. His side B is also pretty great for a variety of reasons. It has super armor after starting, can be used for recovery, and can even be a K.O. move if spaced properly. But it can also be interrupted by opponents that hit the power pellet before Pac-Man takes off, so keep that in mind.
Those are pretty much my main three guys right now. Really enjoying all of them and the game in general. Definitely a pretty awesome selection of characters and playstyles.
