oh god how do you fight yoshi

GGs Kraatu! Have to charge my 3DS, and clearly wii fit trainer needs more work before using her.

Is the online multiplayer for Smash Bros 3DS laggy for everyone? It was quite laggy for me today. This doesn't happen to me in Mario Kart 7 or any of active Playstation fighters, so its not the connection.

All over the place for me. Some matches are flawless, some are unplayable, some are just irritating.

Why is it always fighters this happens with? I can't think of any other genre where I get hit by lag as much. Literally every other game I play is essentially lag free.

Well, game's fun by I haven't had a single good online experience, all have timed out or been really laggy, so I'll wait till that goes away to throw my friend code out there.

Hey does Smash automatically register to my Club Nintendo account? No code inside for me.

Dat last little mac suicide! Nice shulk man, I should have been picking up new characters but I always get beaten up! hehehe

lmao all those Little Mac players getting gobbled up

There is no better feeling than FThrowing a Little Mac player offstage and then Fairing them 3 times so that they can do fuck all but die, then watching them ragequit after the game ends.

I'm going to make it my goal to single handedly make the character less popular online, I want people to not use him out of fear that they might be playing a Ness.

So apparently at Best Buy every Smash copy and every coin (for those who preordered during E3) has your name taped on the package. Really glad it was so organized.

They had a printed list of those who were supposed to get the coin. I just gave my name and done. Didn't even need to show my license but then again I have a very foreign and rare last name (I'm almost certain anybody who has it in my state is related to me).

I got to Best Buy right when they opened, so they still had all the coins tucked away in a box. There was a list that recipients needed to sign, though, and I had to show my ID to confirm.

I was pretty pissed that I had to wait until 10 AM to get the game instead of them opening at midnight (and there were at least 40 people waiting behind me in line, so it wasn't like there were only a few preorders), but I'm glad that everyone who preordered on that Smash Fest day secured a coin after the clusterfuck it ended up being.

Edit: Also, I'm not a coin collector or anything, but the airtight containers these are in usually don't have cotton lining, do they? It makes the coin hard to see, even if it does help stop potential scratches/degradation. Someone at the store made a joke about them just giving us the first batch that was poorly-minted (rumor has it, anyway), but now I'm wondering why they're packaged this way.

Check the cover.

It took me about 2 years to become pretty damn decent in brawl (this was college so I had a lot of time ) playing with my friends we put about 200 hours in, the wii broke got replaced and put another 200 in. So yeah. That long.

Good beginner character is Mario imo. Really balanced.

I will have to try Mario out. I have no dreams of grandeur or anything. I'd just like to win a few matches! Thanks for the advice. Hopefully things will pick up for me over the next week or so.

Haha, yeah I've been only using new people so far which can be rough. It can be confusing as hell trying to toggle through the Shulk stances in a hurry, I got the green high jump more times than I actually wanted, lol.

Quick question for all your Smash players. I am loving the game so far and having a good time, but I am getting owned in 1v1 Glory. I think it is still my favorite game type and I'm having fun learning the characters, but my record is like 0-10 right now.

This is my first true smash game with the exception of a few matches in Melee back in the day. I'm 25 and somehow just completely skipped out on this series.

Do you think that with practice and continual losing, I can get actually decent at the game? I enjoy playing as Zero Suit Samus, Pikachu, and Samus. What is a good beginner character and how long did it take you to get halfway decent at the game?

Thanks GAF!

If course you'll get better with practice. Defeat only makes you want to improve. I was getting clobbered online first few days after it was out on Japanese eShop. Had a record of like 30 wins to 100+ losses. Now I'm at a 56% win rate. Just keep at it.

I'd also like to add this is my first time being competitive at smash too.

Didn't think the online could possibly be as bad as brawl's was, but every match i've tried has been unplayable. Guess I shouldn't be surprised but it's still really disappointing. :(

I just unlocked Dark Pit, and I'm really enjoying playing as him.

I still need to learn how to use Shulk's Monado properly as well.

Someone help me come up with pro strats to farm custom moves. Nothing like getting bopped at 9.0 intensity to 6.5 intensity when you had at least 4 customs (good ones too) in the early batch of loot that all got invalidated with the retries.

I was messing with shulk earlier and it's really all just coming down to getting the switching down. Though A good beginner tactic to follow is Start with Purple and then go to red.
Forgot the names but Purple increases damage output at the lack of smash. Then you can smash with red.

I think for the most part that's all people will really need along with Yellow to improve defense and stay in the match. Green for the jump I can't see being too easy to pull of for recovery except for certain situations and speed is another one I can't see being that useful in a match depending on who you're facing.

It's on the cover of the game - underneath the hard plastic interior. For some reason mine is saying it was already used - I'll try it again later as maybe it's just not allowing the game to be registered quite yet or something?

Uh, does anyone know how to unlock ROB without grinding matches? He's the only one I have left, and the internet doesn't seem to know.

My copy arrived earlier today and so far I've tried out all of the characters in the starting roster and played a few matches online.

Shulk definitely has a learning curve, but it doesn't seem like it will be that difficult after I get more practice in. He's also a little faster than I expected, so that's a plus. His attacks and stance changes are a lot of fun to use, so he'll probably end up being a main.

She's alright I guess. Her normal moves aren't that great and have extremely short range, but I like her customs a lot. Also none of her aerials have all that much killing potential except if you get a spike offstage with dair.
Im in love with her no customs, just won like 7 for glory in a row with her

I just did an FFA to see if you were right.

...It was actually pretty alright so idk what's up on your end.

umm.. I think it is best to call or email CS now, since the process would have failed if there was a problem with the page, if that message is displayed is because it made it to the server checks

The hardest part to me is how it locks you into one for a bit. But yeah, that's a good general plan. Starting with purple, going for red around 70% or higher, yellow if you get up to higher percents. Not really sure when to use blue or green.

I see some people complaining about online. I don't have the game (waiting for the WiiU version), but is it a problem with for glory or for fun? From the japanese streams I've watched before the worldwide release, most for glory matches looked flawless, with a few bad ones, probably due to bad connection. For fun seems to almost always lag though. Is for glory now lagging a lot with the worldwide release?

Heh there a stat item that gives you chance of double smash. Well least you can have the option to turn them off, through I wish they had seperated the stat items and different attacks.

My experience today was that if anyone was far away from their access point, it would lag for everybody.

I was connected to a router on the far end of the house while we were playing 3 friends local + 1 friend online, and it would lag for everybody. Once I switched to the closest router, it was pretty much flawless and nobody complained.

wish i knew. i'm not even doing FFA, just 1v1 and it's impossible to play. seems like a real mixed bag for everyone.

i'd be less sad if it was just input lag cos at least you can sort of adjust to that, but when the game is dropping frames and stalling for seconds at a time it's really aggravating. hell, i even got straight up disconnected from a local match with a guy sitting on the couch with me.

Duck hunt dog is the wall master.

what a redesign

I've played online for a while and only one match has lagged and it was match 3 or 4 out of ten with the same person.

Send me your friend code, you bum!

Hey, can anyone confirm if Mr. Saturn has shield-breaking properties in this game? I've seen him break a shield twice.

If so, has that always been the case? I swear he was just a joke item in every other game.

is there any point in getting this for a mostly single player experience? i can't imagine a smash game being very fun without the multiplayer.

all your character unlock conditions are whack guys. I've unlocked Wario, Lucina and doc Mario and I've only played with Mario and fox. game is hella random.
Seriously. Besides a very few charscters + VS Matches and 100 Multi, it just seems completely random on who you unlock. I kinda like it.

I think I'll have to do VS for Bowser Jr. since I can't beat Classic on 7. Especially with Bowser since I mostly like speedy characters lol. I shall try.

Still gotta unlock my semi mains G&W and ROB along with the ultimate Duck Hunter! Man, I can't get enough of this game. I can't wait until next month where I can actually get online. I would share my fc, but theres no point until I get a stable connection. But I'll try to 100% SP then join yall online as soon as I can!

My current internet's 10GB limit resets on the 9th or 10th so I may be able to join the first GAF tourney. Forgot when that was. Atleast maybe get in a few matches.

Also, does anyone know exacly how you can change the victory poses? I heard by holding a direction on the D-Pad. Do you have to do that everytime? That should be in the options menu.
