Played online for the first time last night. I had about 2 perfectly fine matches, 6 slightly laggy matches, and 5 very, very laggy matches.

Almost all were with players with English tags, but who knows where they were connecting from.

midnight release here in Mexico.

I wish I could go but still it means I'm definitely getting my copy tomorrow, I was worried about the date being pushed or something.

Guys! How do I unlock all the characters? Apparently playing 110 matches unlocks everyone but does it count classic Mode matches or online mode matches or just regular Smash matches?

One final day for Smash, i must say SmashGAF has made the wait more fun.

i know is probably overdone by now, but:

Sons of NeoGAF, of SmashGAF, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when Nintendo fails, when we forsake our Consoles, and break all Handhelds; but it is not this day! An hour of Wolf, and shattered Dreams, when the Videogame Industry comes crashing down; but it is not this day! This day we Smash! By all that you you hold dear on Videogames, I bid you stand, Men of SmashGAF!

For Ridley...

So as someone who used to be amazing with Sheik in Melee, I was playing Brawl yesterday and I was reminded of how terrible I always was at that game. The engine itself was so different and I remember how much I would try to retain my Sheik skills and they just couldn't translate. My mains in Melee were Sheik, Falco and Roy, and in Brawl they were Sheik, Sonic and Toon Link. I was kind of not great with either of those three in Brawl.

Playing the 3DS demo I felt myself strafing and getting KO's like I used to in my Melee days, and zoning feels much more natural. I feel like I could recover faster after landing from a jump and that I can get to the opposite side of a stage faster than I could in Brawl. I know the game is supposed to be like a split second faster than Brawl but it feels much less shackled.

I hope the full game (and the Wii U version) feel the same way coz if so, I feel like I can finally own some bitches again. I hope they didn't change Sheik around too much, though I have a feeling Greninja will be my main ninja now.

Dude, Sheik is amazing again. You'll be pretty happy to wreck with her again soon!

Shiek is waaay better than her brawl self in smash 4. Heck many characters are lol.

midnight downloading: is it slow as molasses in winter?

also, ill quote this question again cause id love to know... not like i wont find out myself in about 12 hours!... but still,

Re: Samus

She is better than Brawl but lost some of the good things she had in Brawl and Melee, i.e her Nair is no longer a single kick that like other characters, it's two kicks that don't last nearly as long nor really cover as much area in front of her. She lost missile canceling (really crucial element to her zoning game) and she still does not have bombs exploding on contact.

The only positives she has is that her grounded moves (tilts, smashes) have more range and maybe slightly more knockback than Brawl (though I've heard Dtilt is actually weaker than Brawl) and her neutral B is stronger/travels faster (closer to Melee charge shot).

Otherwise, there's not much else I can say just from a spectator POV and what I've heard people say. Take it as you will for now.

The game speed in general feels faster than Brawl; lag on lots of moves is more or the same, but falling, running, moving in the air, etc all feel a little snappier, and it does a lot to help the game feel fluid.

Sheik looks pretty different... but in most ways for the better. (Ok, not as good as in Melee, since no chain grabs, plus there's now a better air dodge.) But her new (down-B?), the Bouncing Fish looks pretty great. It's fast, a little flashy, and a strong KO move. Look up videos of Otori or Denti if you're curious. She looks like a really agile character.

Wasn't in to sign for it but the postman posted it anyway. Which worked out for the best (ordered via ShopTo). Running update...

One thing I must admit I find disappointing is the lack of handheld homages in Smash 3DS. I expected it to be a love letter to Nintendo handheld gaming, and while there are some great references and homages, it still fills a bit lacking. I mean look at the stage list. For Zelda we get Spirit Tracks and Gerudo Valley. While these are good levels, why not something from Link's Awakening? Or the Oracle games? The weather could change throughout the battle, THIS WRITES ITSELF. Wario Land is completely ignored, and while we get a cool looking Game Boy stage, it's just Kirby's Dream Land. Most of the handheld only references are from very recent games like Tomodachi Life, New Leaf, Find Mii, New Super Mario Bros. 2. I know it's easy to just pull stuff from 3DS games, but I feel like so much is ignored. I have probably bought more handheld games than console games in my life, so I was hoping we could get some really cool inclusions.

It wouldn't really last you very long when 2v2 is still 2 minute matches anyway.

The length is only tangential to the point. I would still rather play 2 minute 2v2s with my friend against two randoms, than a longer length or stock match with a random against two other randoms.

Toying around with Palutena's various specials confirms to me what I already figured , her default specials are so much more bland (well for me at least) and it sucks big time that if you were to take her into the random opponent online modes like for fun or for glory you can't make use of any of her other moves since they fall under custom rules.
My Palutena by comparison is packing explosives in like every special, something that fits me a lot more than the rather passive default selection.

Nice rap.
huh? oh yeah, that was absolutely intentional.

Fuck, 2v2 online with a friend and two randoms was the best thing in Playstation Allstars, would be so good in Smash :/
This is true, even when losing you shared in the frustration together as twin Kratos flung their blades around as an ever present annoyance, or so I recall.

We're almost at the end now. Any thoughts, feelings, regrets, anyone?

No regrets at all. The roster is worthy for me to be hyping along with SmashGAF for 15 months or so. I'm looking forward to further my hype for Wii U as well.

Nearly 12 hours to go! :)

Don't get too attached, I'm changing it tomorrow.

I already screenshotted it so I will bring it up occasionally if we are in same thread. :P

Yeah, I really hope they'll update this mode so you can matchmake with a freind. I can't see myself enjoying this 2v2 mode otherwise because I'm probably only gonna get frustrated when I lose matches thanks to crappy players I'm paired up with...

Amazon shipped my package today! Kinda hoping it's coming from the Seattle distribution center, because that's where I live and would then have a chance at getting it a day early :)

Yeah, much like Sonic Generations 3DS.
Any Mario/Zelda game before the DS got forgotten. Sonic should have gotten an Advance level like Music Plant. F-Zero was SNES and not the GBA game. The game also forgot about Wario Land.

The music in this game is phenomenal. I just plugged it into my car's aux jack while on the road and put the soundtrack on shuffle. So many great songs (Minor Circuit is currently stuck in my head lol).

Also the last few threads moved way too fast for me to keep up with everything. Are there any planned GAF tournaments in the near future?

Hey man, I've put lots of hours into the demo. I'm ready to throw down!

As long as my opponents play demo-only characters............

I played so many Mario players that thought the same thing yesterday, only to have all their DThrow combos massively neutered due to VI and leaving them to get their shit wrecked.

I'm going to hate it when people get good at the game and I'm no longer able to play a low-tier character and still win, going to end up having to pick a character I don't even like, like Rosalina or some shit.

The music player is probably going to be my most used feature.
