Part of my reason for disliking Mother, as petty as this may be, is I just got sick of hearing about how great it is. Especially the "omg Gigygas is based on a rape scene aborted fetus so deep!" shit. I dunno, the Mother fans I've been exposed to overall seem to pat themselves on the back for enjoying the game too much, like they're more intelligent or cultured.

A few years back Mother/Earthbound was a game legit most hardcore gamers ever heard of. The fans took it upon themselves to remedy that and now they've established the game as a cult classic. So I guess that's the reason behind the over-zealous fans

It bothers me a bit when someone dislikes something for how much someone likes something. It bothers me a TON when it's something that has a small, vocal fanbase. I mean, do you get bothered when people call Mass Effect the greatest RPG series of our time? EB deserves all the praise it gets.

Also, no real fan thinks that Giygas was a fetus. That's stupid shit. But I get the feeling that you think that EB really isn't that deep - is that what you're implying?

Basically, when Wario is grabbed, and when he is suspended in the air by the grab, and he escapes from it, some characters get a free hit, often a KO, because Wario doesn't move very far away when he escapes. Further, the player controlling Wario can't regain control until too late.

I'm a Pokemon Fan I also get annoyed when people try to make it "deeper" as well through fan theories to try and hide the fact they enjoy a kid's game, when there's nothing wrong with that in the first place.

I've finally beaten someone! First I killed one of those pesky Zero Suit Samus with Toon Link and the second time it was a Lucina vs Falcon revenge battle. At least the win counter isn't at zero anymore.

I've been playing Classic mode to unlock characters and omfg I got my ass kicked by jigglypuff three times before unlocking it.

The timing is apparently strict, and Mac and Rosalina are pretty situational. (Mac needs a full meter, Rosalina needs Luma to be up close).
It's not as bad as Brawl where he can get hit by a guaranteed tipper or knee. It's really only an issue with Shulk and ZSS, but Wario is a pretty hard character to grab anyway.

Still shouldn't have been in though.

It's kind of a good analogy, but at the same time Doctor Who has a ton of mainstream appeal. It's more of a cult classic here in the states, but ww it's way too big to be considered an equivalent to EB.

The guy Zero's playing on his stream has an amazing Mega Man. He makes really good use of his throws, which I still suck at. I'm glad others are using his top spin and forward smash more, though. I rarely see them used competitively for whatever reason.

Very little, but from what I've read and watched of it I've seen nothing to suggest it's any deeper than any other JRPG which attempts deep themes.

Feel free to convince me otherwise.

Really though, EarthBound's one of the most emotionally complex games around. Dismissing it as only being quirky sounds like you'd be missing out on a lot of good games.

Of course. I don't advertise my irrationality. I never try to convince someone of something they specifically don't WANT to agree with. It's why I don't get into debates with tea partiers

EDIT: You're throwing your hat into the debate of "is EarthBound deep", having barely touched EarthBound and suggesting that people who disagree are overrating it. I don't discuss things I'm not personally privy to, you shouldn't either. It's annoying and disrespectful. You can discuss the early difficulty curve and your views of the fanbase, but you haven't any valid opinion on the depth of its story.

Who cares what other people think of it? If it did nothing for you, that's totally fine. But trying to dismiss or generalize people who do like it is silly. They just like a game that you don't -- there's not much more to it. They're not wrong and you're not wrong.
