Called the gamestop I was using as my backup and they are still on for the midnight.
They said they will also be having a tournament. Looks like i'll call tomorrow for the specifics. Haven't been to a midnight in ages.

Fuck Rosalina, she doesn't seem balanced around the 2 character gimmick at all.

On her own she's a better character than quite a few, nevermind when she's got that little shit with her that respawns in practically no time at all after you've just taken 20+ seconds to kill it.

I really hope she doesn't turn out to be the best character, I don't want tournaments full of a character I hate.

From what I've seen so far, Rosalina would be a good character even if Luma functioned like Nana and stayed dead until you lost a stock.

More like Rosaltina

Earthbound's just unfun for me.

Maybe it gets better as you go on, but the early part of the game is a painful experience of grinding and getting killed.

After around
Giant Step or once Paula joins you
, I usually don't find myself grinding much at all. I just end up naturally leveling up through fighting some battles and avoiding others. The "off-screen" trick is golden for avoiding enemies. Then again, I have beaten Earthbound 5 times. Maybe I'm just following my own method that works for me.

Poorly received?

Japan apparently didn't like it. I don't think it sold well, either.

So yeah, poorly received to Nintendo.

You definitely don't play Earthbound for the engaging battle system.

But I don't find Earthbound's quirkiness or plot endearing either. It just annoys me.

So, there's no redeeming factor for me to play it.

On the other hand, I LIKE it in Smash, oddly enough. Onett and Fourside rock.

So this happens when you do a smash attack on a starman, I love it.

Man, that's really something special. I guess that with Lucas gone, the team kicked it into overdrive with EarthBound and Mother 1 references.
Still hope he's DLC though.

Nice skeletal Old-Timey Homestar Runner avatar, by the way!

Take the game away from me. Played it too much yesterday and today ... CAN'T HANDLE THE FUN! And now i also unlocked every character!

The animation on Duck-Hunt-Duo is fantastic. The dog and the duck really fell and move like to different identities. Also it looks like the Duck is the brain of the Duo, since in his side-taunt he stops the Dog from goofing around.

I've seen Amazon literally go to the 11th hour before updating their shipping status and still get it to me on time. I won't worry about my shipment until tomorrow night.

Good to hear. Mine now says "preparing for shipment", so I'm pretty sure i'll be good. This is the first time they've ever taken this long for me though, they usually ship two days before.

Loving the game but I still suck after more than 10 years into the series. It's time to change approach because items are becoming boring to me, what's the best way to learn what a combo is?

My problem with Rosalin is that she doesn't feel like <Character> with Luma and <Character -1> without it, she's more <Character +2> with it and <Character> without it.

The more I play Ness, the more I get annoyed that someone out there with actual control over the game thought he was acceptable, or even worse, that he was good.

I mean, it's like the people who playtest this are shit or something, why the fuck is PK Fire so, so bad?

You can get out of it as early as the second hit, the endlag is too long to do anything by then, the range is shit, the hitbox is tiny, it's just an awful move, but I can imagine playtesters getting stuck in it because they don't know how to play the game and asking it to get toned down.

Some of the moveset design in this game is just bad, I'd want a PM2 just so I don't have to deal with the awfulness of Smash 4 Ness.

So I know there's no hidden taunts for the KI character, but are we sure there's nothing for Little Mac in the Punch-Out Stage?

Was so hoping Doc Louis would have comments on each fighter.

Use a quick tilt attack multiple times.
Use a quick aerial multiple times.
Use a throw into a single aerial.

There, you've learnt all of the combos in the game.

Luma is too adorable to just permanently die you know

The training mode has a combo meter but I don't get how should it work.
Anyway, my real problem is that I lose focus when 4 characters are moving, it always happened to me and always will.

what training mode displays as a combo might not even necessarily work, but at low percents you should be able to string together a few hits (typically fair->fair or several up tilts or something to that effect)

also for the "100 hit combo in training mode" type challenges use smart bombs

It's definitely not as well regarded as the first two games in Japan, you're right. And it didn't meet expectations sales-wise. But people still do like it over there, and of course other territories love it. I feel like "poorly received" is a little harsh.

I love the quirkiness and the plot so I guess we just disagree on that. I like it in Smash too, but I like the source material a ton as well!

Wait Japan doesn't like Mother 3? What happened?

According to this, quite a few Japanese fans flat out hated Mother 3

...and thus I learned that it was possible to dislike MOTHER 3. I am... surprised, to say the least - the game is easily in my top ten favorite games of all time. Probably even top five.

Perhaps it had to do with expectations. At the game's core, MOTHER 3 is very different thematically from 1 and 2 - 1 and 2 are more about exploring the world and finding interesting things, while 3 is more about the story and character development.

Part of my reason for disliking Mother, as petty as this may be, is I just got sick of hearing about how great it is. Especially the "omg Gigygas is based on a rape scene aborted fetus so deep!" shit. I dunno, the Mother fans I've been exposed to overall seem to pat themselves on the back for enjoying the game too much, like they're more intelligent or cultured.

Speaking personally I don't have a lot of interest at all in Mother 3. I feel like Earthbound is the better game and Mother 3 just sort of ignores what made it's predecessor appealing as far as themes and set up go, despite having better game play. It's just a lot more of a traditional RPG and considering most of Earthbound was almost an irreverent satire of that kind of game I really don't consider it very appealing in it's context.
