So yeah however much you want to complain about the 3ds version, just be thankful the game isn't psasbr. Jesus. Glad I got this for free because apart from some of the animations and art/level backgrounds this thing ducking suuuuuuuucccckkkks.

Though the reason why the Smash Bros. series receives so much criticism is due to its globally high level of quality - if the games were typically at PSASBR's level, nobody would care enough to whine constantly about every conceivable detail. It's only because we've been spoiled in regards to the content in previous games that we expect so much.

Where do I sign up for it?

It's not going to be until the Wii U version has released and been out for maybe a month, to let everyone get used to it and unlock everything they need for characters they might want to play, so I've not done anything for it yet.

Wait if I dont gotta use custom moves I may play.. lol

Just so I can point fingers and laugh when I beat soneone who did put on custom moves and me nothing!

Wait, why on earth would you think that custom moves being allowed meant that you HAD to use them? Did you think it was about forcing people to not use the defaults because reasons?

Ask in the appropriate chat room what they are using. One will have to be in communication to organise when to get online so it's not like both parties will be in complete silence.

Also tournament rules come down to the organiser.
Just because they say what they are using, doesn't mean that's all they are using. What if someone forgets about the equipment they have on? And what if that equipment doesn't have noticeable effects?

Online isn't like local where it is easy to change custom moves and check equipment on the fly. And local play indicates the equipment a player is using, so the other player can see even if the player with the equipment forgets.

I know rules come down to the organizer.

Yes I thought it was a custom move tournament. Screw that ima still go ham.

Are you serious?

What, exactly, is outlandish about the idea? Break the Targets being one-per-character is like, one of the most normal hopes anyone could ask for. Event mode having co-op and being good is like, a super normal thing. Uprising had 360 challenges, so I don't see why Smash can't one-up that.

So please, instead of making a worthless trololo post, make a comment that actually gives me something to reply to.

Going from the 3DS version to the Wii U version is going to be like that time in DBZ where Goku reveals he was wearing weights that were slowing him down and then takes them off.

But waiting for Wii U version is going to be like that time in DBZ when you expected Goku to arrive to planet Namek and instead you would wait for the next chapter, and the next, and the next...

I'm just saying that For Glory probably isn't indicative of what the competitive rule set is going to wind up being, as it's pretty limiting, even without taking custom moves into account.

Of course, if you're interested in For Glory in particular and not the general competitive scene, then I misunderstood you.
I see! Yeah, For Glory and local tournaments are totally different things.

I am only interested in online play, mainly For Glory, so I am good with Final Destination stages and no custom moves allowed. Unless they patch the game allowing custom moves in For Glory.

That would be great.

3DS version will turn into Yumcha when the Wii u version releases

Or yumcha Dragon ball is 3DS then when Wii u releases it turns into dbz yumcha

Yumcha had Bulma but blew it :/

I've been super absent as of late thanks to Hyrule warriors eating all my time XD

Doesn't the circular icon next to their character indicate if they have equipment on? It's grey if they're not equipped but coloured if they have equipment to show how they've distributed their stats as well as which of the three archetypes it puts them in (e.g. high attack stats is called 'brawler' I believe) I could be wrong but I believe it remains grey if you use custom moves as they don't affect your stats so if it's shown then you'd know immediately if they have equips on :3

This is a fighting game with 51 characters to balance, two versions and 2 years of development time. This is not Melee's little roster anymore where you have lots of time for other things (even though Smash 3DS isn't lighter on content than Melee, objectively). There is a reason why basically all fighting games are lighter on content than every Smash in existence, yes, even Smash 3DS. Balancing, creating new characters, again re-balancing and adjusting old characters takes more and more time with each new version that can't be compensated by bigger and bigger development teams.

Kid Icarus: Uprising had 4 years development time and a creative focus on one version only. And of course it has much more single-player content, it's a single-player focused game. It's multiplayer is barebones in comparison, but that is also not its focus.

But something like the target test or board the platforms minigames can be compensated for with more developers. Side modes, and really most single player content, are things you can actually parallel-ize in development.

Only appears in local play, not online.

I wish there was an option to enable to see what your friend picked in online. Make it an option when creating the lobby.

Wow... some of the design choices in this game are just weird :o
I thought smash run not having online and some aspects of smash run itself seemed a bit unusual but not showing the custom indicator online is flat out bizarre to me :s

The 3DS version won't turn into a Dragpn Ball character once the WiiU version releases. It just won't be important or interesting anymore once everyone can play on their TV with better graphics/sound/controls.

The worst thing about Smash bring multiplatform is the console wars. Easily.

That's because it doesn't show what character someone picked. If it showed that, then the indicator would be there.

So it's basically gonna be Krillin after everyone else is a super saiyan. Your first and second sentence don't really match up.

Ah! you mean during character select? Isn't the indicator on the character display on the bottom of the screen during the match as well though?

Yeah, it'll all be over when the Wii U one is actually out. No one will be talking about the 3DS version then.

Fair enough, I suppose I forgot about Krillin. I guess the analogy really is accurate then haha.

I also forgot to point out that you need the WiiU version if you want to play multiplayer without living in fear of lag.

It's time for FORKSMASH VOL. 4. If you don't know, I am playing every character online in 1v1 For Glory mode and recording my progress here. I'm the first character listed. Star Fox and Pokemon populate this row, along with some retro NES... things.

Volume 1
Volume 2
Volume 3

Fox vs. Robin

NO ITEMS. FOX ONLY. FINAL DESTINATION. A meme come to life. I did what ever true Fox player does: spam laser. Robin couldn't do jack to counter that. I managed to dodge some very telegraphed attacks and kept putting the hurt on him. I hit him with an up smash... THEN AN UP AIR. Two moves BACK TO BACK. At one point he was at 100% and I was at 5% and he decided to raise the white flag and jumped off the stage twice in a row. I just want everyone to know I am undefeated as Fox in 1v1. Winner: Fox

Falco vs. Ganondorf

The stage was Gerudo Valley so I'm on his home turf. Strangely, there have been a lot of Ganondorfs in 1v1. I think this is the third or fourth one I've face in Forksmash alone. He dodged all of my laser shots right from the start, so I knew this wasn't going to be fun. The trick of fighting Ganondorf is to not make stupid, stupid mistakes like running into his chokeslam or elbow. I managed to gain the advantage and was racking up some attacks in the air, but a down air sent me flying. Cool combo Ganondorf, fucking down air and done. I actually landed a few Smash attacks in to tie up the stocks when I was at 20%. There were a few scary hits, but he fell into too many of my attacks and I actually won. TEAM STAR FOX UNDEFEATED. Winner: Falco

Pikachu vs. Pit

Now I gotta play a billion Pokemon. I've never seen a Pit online in 1v1, which means this dude had to be good. He was. He was writing kanji and shit in the sky with his arrows. He pretty much decimates me with grabs the first stock and I die when he has 11%. The second stock went much smoother, though I still just had to poke at him as he dodged all my big attacks. I claimed his first stock and it was an even battle. Since I was at about 145% though, he didn't have to do much. In my defense there was some stuttering. STUTTERING. Winner: Pit

Charizard vs. Donkey Kong

This guy was Pink Donkey Kong, need I say more? I may have done the worst move in Smash history, when I ran into a fully charged DK slap. Seriously he was charging it forever and for some dumbass reason I ran right into it. It took me from about 19 to 47%. Charizard is a heavy hitter though so I can easily pump out some damage. He does the same shit every DK does which is desperately mash buttons to get a meteor attack and fails each time. He does get an up air to kill me. Ok, DK is at 100%, a flare blitz will easily crush him. Yeah it's the most predictable move but fuck it I'm going deep. I mash side B so hard I can hear the microchips inside my 3DS crack as I hurl my dumbass of the stage and too my death. DK still couldn't get in a meteor smash on my way down. Winner: Donkey Kong

Lucario vs. Rosalina

Fuck me. At least I didn't stand there and let Luma beat the shit out of me like I always do. You have to be really aggressive on Rosalina once that fucking thing is nowhere near her. If that Starfy wannabe is even on the same block as you, it will just potshot you, completely screwing up your attack. Is Rosalina flopping like a dying Magikarp and you're a split second away from smashing her? LOL NOPE LUMA FUCKING KICKS YOUR SHIN. Also if you try to counter the Luma charge, fucking Lucario just does his jump kicks TOWARDS THE LUMA. Holy shit Lucario if you weren't so useless already. Shockingly, I actually won the match. I can't believe I won with the worst Pokemon. Winner: Lucario

Jigglypuff vs. Lucina

A Game of Whiffs. I think one of us finally hit the other thirty seconds into the bout. A bit later, I roll my ass off the stage. HOW DO I STOP THIS THING? So Lucina has about 30 damage and two stocks while I have one stock as Jigglypuff. She is one of those "please let me land a Smash attack" Lucinas. This should have been an easy battle and I was clobbering her as the puff. I rolled off the stage again because of course. Winner: Lucina

Greninja vs. Donkey Kong

ANOTHER Pink Donkey Kong. I refused to stretch this out into a feature length battle and tried to blitzkrieg him. I am completely walloping him like... who's the best ninja in Naruto? Like that guy. This was almost like practice for my Greninja. I crushed him when I was about 25%. The battle got a bit more interesting a few seconds later when HOLY SHIT HE ACTUALLY LANDED A METEOR SMASH. So my huge advantage now turned into a tie, great. Keep in mind I am on the Balloon Fight stage and cannot fucking see the Shadow Sneak shadow. I basically just have to guess where that thing is going. I knew he was trying to throw me off again and land another meteor smash, so I tried to take the fight to the air and in the middle. Once again I was smacking him around, and delivered two consecutive picture perfect shadow sneaks to win. NO SCOPE. Winner: Greninja

Duck Hunt vs. Villager

Killager basically just spammed the shit out of his gyroid. Duck Hunt's bomb can bow it up, but sometimes it just changes the direction of your bomb so when you shoot it, it goes towards you! It was pretty hard to get close to him, which is what I would have to do if I wanted to win this match. Despite the spam, we were neck and neck until he threw me off the stage. He killed me with a THROW. An aerial that must have barely thrown up past the blast box tied it up. I only had 7% so it was almost as even as can be, but I couldn't penetrate past his gyroid wall and he became more defensive. I died due to some bullshit. Winner: Villager

ROB vs. Greninja

The rubber match. Will I come out of this row above .500? I only have to play maybe the most boring character in the game to make it happen. Maybe two seconds into the match I had already figured out Greninja is this goober's main and he probably has an entire team of them in Pokemon X. I basically could not do shit the entire match and just watched as Greninja did forward airs on me until the game decided enough was enough and graciously carried me outside of the blast boxes. Winner: Greninja

Forksmash record: 15-21. I feel like I only got completely decimated only once, an improvement! I need to stop throwing away victories though. Oh well, it's just an experiment. Next up, a row Sakurai was too lazy to even complete.

That's silly. You bring up Melee, but Melee had a tiny team relative to the combined efforts of Nintendo, Sora, and Namco Bandai. Smash has three times the number of people working on balance than Brawl, so why would we assume that Sakurai is cheapening out on the SP content?

You know what I love to take on the bus to work? A TV.

$40 demo

Also, can anyone find the street ads for 3DS? You know, the ones that show characters in the bottom left corner, and show four much larger characters up higher? I was wondering if we ever confirmed that the Miis were listed separately on those ads.

I'm gonna get Smash Wii U as well and will play that more than Smash 3DS and think it will be the better version. That's my preference, but you don't see me snob about it. The same goes the other way for those who prefer the 3DS version, don't be a snob about it.

But this is the Internet, so I'm just yelling at the clouds now.
Ah! you mean during character select? Isn't the indicator on the character display on the bottom of the screen during the match as well though?
Yes, I mean during the character select screen.

I don't think it is show during the match. I don't really remember.
Yeah, it'll all be over when the Wii U one is actually out. No one will be talking about the 3DS version then.
Jesus, all of that snark. I guess you have to vent it out some where with Nintendo's situation not looking good overall currently, so can't really talk about Sony or MS.

Didn't you read the multiple times it has been said that the more characters/content there are, the work increases exponentially?

Yes, I have. Did you read the part where they responded to the increase in characters and workload by increasing the number of people to deal with said workload? Why would it matter how many characters they have in this game, when they clearly have added enough staff to deal with it? Why would it be a problem at all to do 51 Target Tests in this game anymore than Melee when the staff is so much larger?

Playing handheld games outside of your home must be an alien concept to some of the people here.
Yeah, if you start living alone, you would understand visiting family on weekends and such. I remember being away from the dorms to study for school. The 3DS is also great on car trips to different places for work. Japan is often away from home, which is why handhelds rule over there.

It really kinda is. I'll still bring it along if I'll have free time wherever I'm going, but the vast majority of the time if I'm out of the house, it's because I'm doing something other than playing video games. Working, visiting friends/family, eating, buying something, etc etc.

I understand how it can be amazing to have portable goodness though. I took advantage of it all the time years ago. While I do think the Wii U version will have better controls, my teasing about the 3DS version is just supposed to be in jest.

Funny enough I tend to do my portables while visiting my family because I often can listen to them talk and respond without my other senses. It is so much more gratifying than going to a room to play a console. I leave my consoles for my own freetime.

PS:
Duck Hunt Duo is the new US/UK name for Duck Hunt.

I can dig that. Speaking of, I hope DKD isn't the only retro character this iteration of Smash will see. Ayumi Tachibana, Lip, or Takamaru would make for great retro choices.

Every Hamburg store. If they tell you that they wont sell it to you, tell them that already 3 copys got sold.

Thanks for the suggestion to go looking for an early copy, went to Saturn in my town and got a fresh copy!

If somebody wants to add me for some 1v1 here is my friend code: 3497-0028-9403
Warning: I'm still pretty bad but I will try my best :D

Of course, they can. That's why Smash Run, Target Blast, the advanced classic mode, challenge board, equipment, custom moves and more trophies than ever exist.

Otherwise, people just live in dream land where a company has infinite developer resources. They don't and there is a limit. They have in addition a much resource-higher Wii U version in HD to develop as well that will have unknown exclusive modes & features, a different and more difficullt challenge board, more trophies and whatever else.

That's the reality people have to understand and realistically expect: These two games are simultaneously developed in 2 years. Keeping that in mind, his list is frankly just ridiculous wishful thinking.

And in the end, the content is more (more) than acceptable for a fighting game with 51 character roster.

If they had enough staff completely, then we wouldn't have cut characters. We would also have more stages. Maybe of custom moves didn't exist, we coul have individual BTTs.

All of these maybe's mean they don't have infinite resources to do everything we want an even everything they want.

And if you think their staff increased exponentially in an equal manner to the amount of content they've worked on, then you're sadly misinformed.
so....I guess it's come out early everywhere in Europe then lol
Fixed. :p

I have a question: When you play against a Mii Fighter controlled by the computer, does it make a generic Mii, or does it use one of the ones on the 3DS?

You chose from one of the ones you have made. Alternatively you can actually create one through the character selection if you want to be a goof and waste everyone's time.
