Since piloting vehicles and mechs has sort of been Bowser Jr.'s thing ever since Mario Galaxy, I figured if he showed they would incorporate that somehow. I thought it would only be for his Final Smash or something though, not his entire moveset.
He's one of the game's most pleasant surprises for me. I was always a supporter of the character, but I had pretty much given up all hope post-Rosalina and they managed to come up with a better moveset than what I had in mind.
Still disappointed he doesn't have his own alternate colors, though.

Same here, I thought Mario's representation was fine as is with just Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser. If I had to choose another main series Mario rep though, Bowser Jr. would be the first I'd choose. Thankfully Sakurai implemented him better than anyone could have hoped for.

I wouldn't be surprised if he WAS new blood. The Smash Brothers doc & Melee's return to EVO basically sparked a newbie boom in the Melee scene.

I don't know how Sakurai does it, but this applies to pretty much every newcomer. Pocket and Timber are so quintessentially Animal Crossing, and yet nobody thought to give Villager moves like that. Rosalina's Luma mechanic is ingenious and incredibly fitting, but again, nobody else thought of it. Even Duck Hunt's implementation is better than anything I could have imagined.

Hey, Hbox's Puff won Tipped Off 10 recently. I didn't get to watch the end of singles live but I'm glad I didn't spoil that for myself. Was nice watching it the next day and being surprised.
Really want to see Axe have a great day and take a tournament with his Pikachu sometime.

This is why I cannot stand these people. Gen Wunners are much more bearable. The mindset of "anything new is bad" is annoying.
I do not see why Nintendo tries to appeal to these guys. I am happy that it is faster and no tripping exists. You still have my love Nintendo.

Maybe it's because he doesn't really have rules. He can go I like this concept, let's make a character around this where we most think mostly within the limitations of what we know about Smash.
This isn't necessarily aimed at you, but I don't get what this phrase is supposed to mean, I've seen it quite a few times used in a similar context but I almost always think it's an incredibly stupid response when I see it used in this context.
In a general sense, sure, we do need new blood in the Smash community to keep it alive, but it feels weird seeing people say it towards someone preferring games better geared towards competitive play, it just sounds like saying "We need people who don't know any better in the Smash community so that nobody complains" or something.
I don't know, people are overblowing the hate on Smash 4 a bit, maybe out of misplaced fear that their game is going to die out (never going to happen with the way the series is now handled), maybe it's because they let themselves get hyped and ended up disappointed by the final release (Hello me!) and maybe it's just a little bit of elitism that their game requires more technical skill or something, which seems to be what a lot of people want to believe.
But I've never really found what I've seen that bad, atleast, it's never worse than the stuff I see on the other side of the 'argument', a lot of it is just the same to me.

He probably snap-formed that opinion by losing to the CPU or something. If he still thinks this, I have no idea how he came to those conclusions.
I think he's probably average or worse. He's got Little Mac syndrome in that opponents have to change their gameplan to win but win big when they do.
I'm still confused as to why he wasn't in Mario Kart 7 or 8. He was my main, before then.
Eh, I'd say it is. Sometimes I think people really overstate how different the Smash games are. They are mostly the same. The 20% that's different is what competitive players make their bread and butter off of. That is the fine level of detail you have to be fully aware of to be good. Sometimes though, I think some of us get a little too caught up in that detail. You don't need to change that much to Brawl to make it a mid way point.

D1 is advocating for both games to live side-by-side, not what happened with Brawl/Melee where Melee died right when Brawl came out because everyone and their mom played Brawl instead -- wanting to give it a chance. Then these same people wouldn't come back to Melee because Melee tournaments weren't as popular, only diehard people like Scar, Mang0, Armada, Hungrybox, D1, etc. kept the game alive and the general skill ceiling that was growing even beyond 2008. And during that period, those same people disrespected Brawl players and denounced Brawl, insulted it, entered tournaments to prove how campy it was, etc etc.
He is trying to get people who are disrespecting others for the game they like to play to understand that kind of behavior is unacceptable and the right choice you should be making is supporting the game you like to play and it will continue to live on as a tournament game and respecting people regardless of the game they play.
He can only say so much in 150 words...
New games historically replace the old ones, despite the popularity of the older game at EVO (EX: MvC2 -> MvC3 -> UMvC3).
I never knew there was a competitive Smash community until after Brawl had come out which the community had really just ended up souring my experience with the idea of fun and friendly competitive gaming. For me the very concept of knowing that a series I love had a huge community that loved to go head to head was appealing at surface value but the utter destruction had all but tainted my entire interest in partaking in the competitive scene or even just the dedicated Smash communities.
I love Melee and I love watching it but there is no vocal community quite like that game's dedicated following. I really don't want to assume a bunch of things about why that is, but the most damning thing you can do is keep your entire franchise stuck in a perpetual loop by neglecting the chance for new blood to join the ranks and shed a new light on an entire metagame. Just like we were once there to push Melee into prominence and show an entire new dimension of mechanics and game play, newer players deserve to have their chance as well and there is no better opportunity than now with Smash 4. Hell, no one's going to deny us an opportunity to join in on that fun either, and if you do well enough in accommodating you can inspire people to check out your preferred titles and join in to keep your old games alive as well.
So really, for everyone in the Smash community
