New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

It wasn't Soony... Evolution should just learn to keep quiet. Next time get the high quality bitrate videos up, then come here and be like:

"oh hey guys, we now have some HQ videos up"

But instead they gave us something to wait for lol.

Should have done an Insomniac and only told us an hour or so prior to footage release.

I'm assuming what happened here is that they had a PR plan in place, it involved IGN's exclusive coverage, IGN video + youtube = garbage, and then to appease the most vocal and attentive fans they spontaneously promised a better version without having a place in their work schedule to complete the task. I mean, it's not a huge task, but given how development is probably going, I can see how it might be low priority. Remember that it's always a small fraction of the user base who genuinely cares about seeing top quality media. For the rabble, shit-quality youtube is often good enough.

Indeed. But it's the enthusiasts who create the hype this early on, creates the gifs, the images and all the talk about the game, and for us to get excited we really need something that tells us how the game is going to look.

I really don't care that much that we haven't got the footage yet, but - well, in my line of work, if I promise a client something for a specific day, I better deliver on it or i'll have some very angry clients.

Well they may have also misunderstood the terms of agreement with IGN for that footage. We may never see higher quality videos of those IGN videos because they are exclusive to them for instance. Some PR guy probably dun goofed.

Yeah, I agree that the constant vague promises and lack of followup are legitimately annoying.

I kind of wonder if they'd be better off not releasing perfect quality media. It's possible that the people who were already impressed by the youtube won't become any *more* impressed, and the people with negative opinions will just have a clearer picture to dissect and criticize, resulting in more negative hype than positive hype on balance.

In all honesty, I have long wanted racing games to do just that instead of invisible walls everywhere.

Racing Souls - you die when you roll over the edge!

You have lost all your souls. You can now only choose between a Ford Ka or a Fiat Panda.

*noooooooooooooooooooo.jpg*

A Fiat with a faulty electrics!

I think we're onto something here!!1

;)

Is this how focus groups work? Lol

Considering there was a prompt for explanation, and they said more or less that they hadn't had the chance to do it (implying that it would still be on the way), do you actually have reason to believe that's the case? In the absence of a rationale for what you said, it sounds an awful lot like something made up as a justifying excuse.

1080p@30fps Timeplase in Chile

Here's the accompanying article, confirming it was sent to gamersyde by Sony themselves.

Wait, wasn't the complaint at the time that it was just a time trial? People had wanted a real race with other vehicles on the track and I thought I remembered that never actually materializing. Also, that video wasn't originally a 1080p source. Gamersyde had to re-encode it to have it display at the normal resolution.

Replace Souls with Fame and death with humiliating defeat and we have our first DLC mode for Driveclub: Racer Seasons, a series of 10-20 races where you win or you're stuck with a shitty car. Presented by NeoGAF.

Oooh. A tournament mode of 10 races where you are given a set amount of money. You can either buy an awesome car but have to take care of it, or you can buy a lesser car that you can smash and repair. If you run out of money, then you get the Fiat. And if you win with the Fiat, double fame!

Ok thanks I forgot about that one. I take it back.

Edit - NVM the video is from September. They promised the full 1080P race in October. But whatever it's better than nothing.

You guys act as if I want this game to fail. when in reality Evolution studios makes my favourite racing games ever, and I'm not even a fan of racing games. I'm just annoyed by all this "as soon as possible" bullshit they keep saying.

Now we just need some kind of twitch integration or betting and we're set! Rushy get in here and iterate on this!

Is there any other kind? I kid, of course, but my limited exposure was through a Fiat Spider with a lifelong history of draining its own battery for no apparent reason.

Haha I don't think so! My old 2000 Punto would regularly lock and unlock it's doors by itself.

Fix. It. Again. Tomorrow

Forgetting about this broken promise, what I like about Drive Club is that it seems just a good looking arcade racing game. And thats what I am lookong for!
I mean... NFS could be great, but this one as pratically every other arcade racing game nowadays are more worried with other shit like: an open world vague scenario (kind stupid when you cant get out of the car), police chases, crashing cars for bonus, and so on. And im tired of those formulas! Just want a good arcade racing game thats all about racing.

Sigh.

I really don't know what to say. I purposefully didn't check the thread for most of the day hoping that the trailers would be out and it'd make for a nice surprise, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOPE!

Sony/Evo, you truly suck.

Did they forget or something? What the hell man...

Maybe they don't see the point in catering to a vocal minority who want non shit footage?

As someone said, the YT IGN footage is more than enough for the vast majority of people. These are probably the same people who still have their TVs set to 720p while playing their PS4.

Well they should care about having up to date videos on their own website, that is where they are/were going to host the high quality videos. On their site they currently have old ass videos which are not a good representation of the game.

As small businessmen they should talk to the Giant Bomb guys about getting one of those interweb site things set up. They could probably put their videos up on one of those.
