New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

are the windshield reflections from the e3 build gone, or are the just not noticable during the night?

Some of those reflections were busted though, I remember one shot in which the speedometer was totally out of synch with its windshield reflection... Really distracting...

Exactly, anyone in the know about framerate knows that 60fps isn't just twice the resources. Its a lot more demanding than running at 30. i don't think this game looks too much better than forza to warrent OMG THIS SMOKES EVERYTHIIING....at 30fps.

I'm seeing jaggies, a lot, for example

It's just like the late, great Billiam Clinton once said "Always keep it simple and stupid, Stupid."

I dunno, it's hard to even see what to get excited at when the game looks so similar to other racing IP's.

Oh no, it's this guy.

Really dirty encoding job here. YT compression is heavy, but the compression shown here goes far beyond what YT does.

Compression aside, I don't know why people are so blown away by what's shown here. Well, I guess most come from 8 years old hardware and that's understandable. But I'm guessing that if this was a multiplat title people would be far less excited.

But you can't blame YouTube for the quality. YouTube does not compress the videos nearly as heavily as these videos.

Just take a look here:

Now that is just the first 1080p video I found and is shot with a phone so its already a bit rubbish straight form the source, but the quality is leagues above the DC videos.

Ok so I'm not technical so this is tales from my ass...

Could be...source file might have already gone through compression; could have been through compression on the IGN player before being broadcast on YT; could be that YT/IGN asked for non-native file owing to the factors I mentioned.

A technical fellow is needed.

Nice view from the window BTW :)

Well it's not this, but it still looks pretty good.

I so wish Evolution had made a new Motorstorm instead of this.

Apocalypse was the best one yet.

I don't know which IP, Grid does racing decently I guess.

Racing in GT and Forza, sure you can do it online, but the thing with Drive Club is they bring that aspect to the next level.

I want to race man. Racing all day long.

Oh nice, didn't know the game used PBS. It's my favourite next-gen feature!.

It's why games such as Second Son, Killzone and Ryse look so great.

Looks great (if you can look beyond the YouTube compression), especially at dawn in the first video, looks so real, and great sense of speed too. Won't miss 60fps on this one (even though I do prefer it). Day 1 for me, can't wait.

Hype went down slightly over horrible engine sounds (We've seen the Pagani in enough games and videos to know that it doesn't sound like a lawn mower) and BGM.

IGN/Youtube quality doesn't do the game justice though, I'm sure.

How is it any different to any other racing game?

I've only seen the two gameplay videos, there's nothing special in the racing there.

Man oh man I keep watching that Pagani vid. Excellent transition of day to night. I was like woah when he made the turn close to the end of the race in the cockpit view when the car bumped the wall and you saw the drivers hand pop off the wheel due to the impact. Impressive.

Forza looks like a last gen game compared to DC. The main problem is lighting, it makes Forza cars look like plastic toys.

I totaly disagree. I agree forza looks crap on videos but after seeing it running on a properly calibrated tv it looks fantastic. The top gear track has lighting that looks closer to real than I have seen in nearly any other video game

And yet you're happy to judge Driveclub by couple of shoddy Youtube videos?

So you've seen the latest build of DC on a 'properly calibrated TV' then have you?

Oh you haven't? Guess that means your argument falls down then, cool.

I so wish Evolution had made a new Motorstorm instead of this.

Apocalypse was the best one yet.

Loved motorstorm and pacific rim. Apocalypse left me cold. I preferred motorstorm keeping to natural environments, plus the idea of a racing festival inside a crumbling city was just stupid. (Although I really enjoyed split/second and that was dumb too)

Who publishes a game is the real is the real litmus test for some posters.

If you post on GAF long enough you can tell the disingenuous posters from the real ones as some of the replies would be totally different if this game was released on a different platform. Another example is on this very page. One of the biggest Forza fanboys on this site asks what's so different about this compared to any other racing game.

What you see is a compressed mess at 30 fps.
We can tell it has good lighting and that it has cars...

To further expand on the issue of internet video compression artifacts. These two images are from a PS4 game with much simpler graphics/geometry than Drive Club its name is VizionEck:

Now extrapolate this to a game like Drive Club with complex lightning, geometry, effects and shadows.

He's not wrong. They where almost shuttered after apocalypse (due to bad release timing with a tsunami in japan) and driveclub, just like any racer bar forza and GT is hardly going to sell gangbusters, certainly not enough to justify the year delay and year of extra expenditure. then you factor in the fact they are putting out a PS+ version, which will satisfy most casual racers needs.

Now, whether evolution or sony have factored all that in, and a small amount of sales would be considered a success for them, i don't know. But it seems unlikely.

So the question is, will sony give them another chance with a franchise that sold progressively less (motorstorm) make a new IP that will potentially fail in a harsh market (driveclub) or will they be downsized to make smaller arcade releases that have been profitable (RC)....or...will driveclub be their last game?

I intend to buy this game. But i DO NOT think it will be profitable.

I hope/think it will be profitable. People will want a game to show off their PS4 capabilities and this will be it for a while. And it will be a riot of fun on top of it. Also, they need to make Wipeout.

People don't run out and buy a £40 game just for something pretty to look at and to show their friends. Especially when you have a PS+ release that's free and offers more then enough content to achieve the same goal.

I just do not see this game succeeding. And i honestly feel this could be evolutions "haze".

Really? Forza 5 looks like a last gen game compared to Drive Club?
So youre honestly telling me that if you took 100 average gamers and showed them footage of Forza 5 and then Drive Club the majority would think that Forza 5 was made for hardware a whole generation behind?

You can honestly say that with a straight face?

What a ridiculous statement.

Put me in the camp that thinks that DriveClub looks great, but not so amazingly great that it should be running at 30 fps (especially on the superior PS4 hardware).

Wonder how it'll compare to Forza Horizon 2 (assuming that Horizon 2 also runs at 30 fps)

Forza has awful IQ, I believe it doesn't even have any anti-aliasing, probably because of the hardware issues getting to 1080p/60fps on the XB1.
