New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

It's pretty high resolution considering the cables are clearly visible, plus it has an 'orange peel' surface on the paintwork. The reflection resolution could be dynamic based on performance - at one point it was way lower in the previous trailer.

Maybe a dust shader got kicked up and it was through a alpha?

Was it me or did one of the IGN vids say "choose your weather"?

Weather added? Or did they just mean time dilation / time cycles?
Yes, they said weather, separate from time of day. But it's probably only going to be an option of how much cloud cover there will be. Not rain, snow, etc.

Gran Turismo outlived its usefulness several games ago for me, since all of them are pretty much the same fucking thing. NFS games control like shit. Ridge Racer is my favorite racing franchise of all time. I haven't played the other games. Are you done calling me out now?

What you are looking for is Wipeout HD.

gamersyde where are thou?

If it's using SSRs they are pretty much always lower res, but everything is reflected.

I actually doubt this is SSR. This is probably the same trick PGR4 introduced of using the previous framebuffer mapped onto the surface of the car. The resolution is actually pretty high, its just being distorted by simulated imperfections in the paint. If it was low resolution the reflection anomalies would look much different. Go outside and look at a shiny car really close. Most have similar local imperfections.

They definitely said "choose your weather". It's a different icon than the time lapse icon (the watch). We don't know what types of weather they mean though.

"Choose any race type, location, track, time of day, time lapse speed, weather and crowd size."

The bonnet reflection looks low resolution :(

It's not 1:1 resolution with what's being rendered for the actual objet itself, but it is pretty high considering you can see details like cables and such.

Also take into account that the surface of the car isn't "even" and has a texture to it.

I hope it's YouTube making the game look this bad, but other than visually, it looks a bit boring. I miss MotorStorm.

The reflections, lighting, and real time shadows are the bread and butter to this game's visuals. If you want Motorstorm levels of unrealism, visuals, and gameplay; it won't be here.

Granted youtube compression is crap, but am I the only one who didnt find these 2 gameplay vids particularly impressive?

They look good, but atleast what i saw was quite worse than the most recent realtime trailer we had last week.

Should i make an appointment with the eye doctor?

I kinda agree too. It looks really good even with the youtube compression, but I really can't say it looks much better than CARS considering that runs at twice the framerate.

I have a feeling weather will be limited to cloud cover and fog. Rain and snow make every racing game better, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Some comments from Rushy:

@Ali_Sems We're working on improving all aspects of DRIVECLUB all the way up till release, including the audio.

@Saikes I said there would be no consumable microtransations, such as currencies, which would allow players to spend money ad infinitum.

@J23PR Cars are rapidly unlocked as you play, you'll quickly have a garage full to choose from.

Well it's not this, but it still looks pretty good.

Looks great but I would prefer something different, too many racers on the market, would have been better to create something crazy like motorstorm. In fact I want to pick up right now either apocalypse or pacific rim for cheap.

All I care about now is A.I., we have weather now we just need to know is it "weather or just weather effects" I hope they clear that one up along the way.

Whats so great about DriveClub again?...Aren't their already other arcade racers coming out this year with arguably better visuals... like World of Speed from the Projects Cars devs... hell even The Crews vehicles look more impressive imo...

No, I don't think it was. It's in the Maserati video? We should get some sharp eyed to identify all the cars in these new vids for potential new ones :D

Rushy mentioned it in a video interview up at IGN. Not much new information there, except when asked if they were going to have something crazy in the game like GT6's Lunar Rover he said "we have something up our sleeve." Who knows what that could mean.

Watching these vids I can't help but wish it was a next-gen Motorstorm that Evolution were working on. The whole 'club' thing does nothing for me unfortunately, and outside of the luscious visuals, the gameplay looks rather pedestrian. Not quite the realism of Gran Turismo/Forza, but not arcadey enough for the fun factor either. A bit like the usual Codemasters middle-ground. Perhaps if there's some kind of Kudos system ala PGR, that'd make things a bit more interesting.

I see, and you're probably right. Paint flakes do cause imperfections in reflections on real cars.

The selling points:

-Fully connected online racing/team racing (whatever that means)
-Arcade racer that has simulator characteristics, a hybrid so to speak.
-Graphics! Global illumination, simulated clouds, day/night cycle etc.

Probably left some stuff off, but they have my 60 US dollars (50 w/ PS+)

Yeah, it's called FAME points.

If you don't think driveclub is a good or legitimate game that's fine but if you are already of that opinion why are you in this thread if not to troll? You are looking at youtube video with some of the crappiest compression out there. If you actually wanted to compare the games then at least don't use youtube as your measuring stick.

Looks like it has strayed too far away from an arcade racer for me. I just need to accept they are dead at this point or open world.

I'll give the PS+ version a go anyway and if I can buy just Scotland for cheap I maybe would. Last game I remember with Scotland was Edinburgh in PGR2.
